Morning Ladies!
How was everyone’s weekend?
I did not do well in terms of my eating habits. Jaime and I have decided to live together for the week to do a litte thing see if we cannot jump start our progress a bit more. We have both lost a little but not much, but then we aren’t dieting either, just eating the same way we always do, berries and all.
We all went for a 60min walk this morning, it is so nice to start the day that way.

Good work Mat

I am doing my arm exercises and they are hard but I am sure I will see a difference in a few weeks. Foodwise I am doing fine and I have been having to do some extra physical work recently for various reasons so I am sure that will help too - pushing a heavy wheelbarrow through a muddy field is great exercise, I have to get some bales of hay next weekend so that will be a really good workout stacking and shifting that lot.

Heading to the gym in a moment, so no real update yet... (I will post when we return).

While I''m here, however... this weekend, BF and I grabbed lunch at Chipotle, which we do from time to time when we''re busy or on errands, and since I''ve been counting calories, I decided to look up the nutrition value when I got home. Imagine how horrified I was to learn that my little barbacoa burrito was 1000 calories!!!!!!!!!!! That''s two-thirds of my daily intake!

Phew, will have to re-think Chipotle in the future. :)

Lorelei- I think the wheelbarrow sounds like a great full body exercise, as does the bales of hay. Do you enjoy working outdoors, I think that would be lovely. I am going to do my arm stuff before I go to class today since I doesnt start till 11.

Stermag- Yikes. 1000 calories...bummer. I have gotten to wear I will only go to places that post their info online too, I only eat a few things so I know what I am getting into before I order.

I do enjoy working outdoors with the horses very much, but I prefer it when the weather is a bit warmer

It has been so freezing cold here my hands are starting to crack open and are really sore despite wearing gloves

Still it is all good for the figure

Heh...I''ve eaten at chipotle---burritos in general are monsters. A tortilla has something like 400 calories! Get the "burrito bowl" if you are watching calories.

As for me, the weekend was not so hot, due to some crappy virus that had me sleeping all day. Today I got back in the saddle and did 30 mins of interval training but with incline instead of raising speed. May I saw, Owwwww--I am exhausted. Partly from the days off and partly this interval thing is tiring!

Doing OK on water, sleep not great. Ever since flyfisher got back from the interview he hasnt been sleeping through the f*&%ing night bc he is nervous and therefore I wake up two or three hours early as well. I really want these people to call him today!

I''m trying to reduce my sugar intake again. With the birthday party last week and going out once or twice, OD-d on refined sugar. No more! Thank god I never got addicted to soda....

Can someone please tell me what Chipotle is - I can imagine it is a restaurent, is it Mexican?

yeah, its a burrito place in southern cali.

its also a smoky hot chili.

Noooo! Don''t tell me Chipotle burritos are full of calories! I love them! And their chips with the lime and salt are to die for!

Chipotle is a mexican restaurant/not quite fast food place. The prices are cheap and the food is good quality. They have them here in Northern California. I think they''re owned by McDonalds, so they will soon pop up in your area too. Everytime we go there, it''s packed.

Jelly and I actually RAN this morning! We didn''t last 30 minutes, more like 15. I''m sweating as I type this though!

Way to go everyone.

I don''t think I''ve ever encountered a Chipotle (restaurant that is). I have found that a lot of Mexican places up here in Northern cali will make you healthy burritos though if you know what to ask for - black beans, no rice, no cheese, veggies in all available forms (lettuce, salsa, etc...), and a whole wheat tortilla. Also, you can always get it to go and then cut it in half and take the other half home - somehow 500 calories sounds a lot more manageable at one meal than 1000.

My exercise is going pretty well - I went and took a 1 hour cardio kickboxing class yesterday, which was really hard, and I''m off to my toning/sculpting class today. Unfortunately the FILs are in town, and so that means lots of going out to eat plus lots of extra stress...I''m trying though!

That is one good thing for the figure here in England I suppose is the lack of good restaurants and takeout places, you guys are so lucky having all these great places to eat and from what I understand so convenient and reasonably priced. We have Pizza Huts, Mc D's, Burger King and Kentucky but mainly we are restricted to a choice of fish and chips or chinese - at least where I live and I won't waste the calories unless it is worth it. Another thought, do any of you find that guys don't get women ordering a dessert or fattening meal with a diet soda? I have explained to Dh a number of times that a full fat soda has around 150 calories and these I can put towards a treat but he STILL doesn't get it!

2.5 mile run for me today. A slight improvement over my recent 2 mile efforts, but still a long way from the 10k I have to be ready for in May.

Phew.

Today is kickboxing for me...I did my arm exercises at home yesterday the way we do them in class, can you say Feel the Burn? Ow. But hey it''s for a good cause, aka tank top arms!

Greg was reading me some article about Chipotle and how it''s booming and owned by McD''s....I''m not shocked to hear it''s got lots of calories!! But he was saying it is apparently a huge hit in the East Coast where they have no ''real'' mexican...out here in CA we have so many burrito and taqueria''s you could throw a small stick and hit 5 of them. So it''s easy to choose a healthier place that cooks with no lard or similar. Like Baja Fresh is pretty healthy as is Andale and also we have a place called Aqui''s which does things like Ahi Tuna burritos etc. Yum!

Breakfast was honey kashi, lunch today is half a togos sandwich and 1/2 of their chinese chicken salad and dinner will be fish or chicken or something. Oh and good news, my coworker/friend told me she wants to start talking about how to lose weight so I may have a buddy which would be cool because during the days when we are together in the office (our schedules are kind of mish-mash but we can coordinate) then we can go for a walk on the nearby trail which is ~2-3m so that would be fun to start throwing in there for me so I don''t have to do it at night all the time. I think she''s slower than me right now though so I might have to work her up to the longer walks.

On a positive note, I tried on a bikini the other day and it''s looking very good. I''m pretty happy so far but know that there''s a few more things to take care of!

Well, I think I had just the worst food-weekend ever! Not only did we go to a Laker game on Friday, I had nachos. It was the very fast food nachos, not even the kind with real cheese! But before that we stopped off at a place called Grinders where I got a vegetarian sandwich with cheese, avocado, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce on sqaw bread (a sweet-ish dark bread), with a side of seasoned fries.

I know, I know. BUT, that was all I had eaten that day, I was stressed out at work. THEN on Saturday I was finishing my taxes and was online with H&R Block waiting to ask one simple question, and i was in line on-line for 4 hours, from the 545th person to the 61st and my computer CRASHED! At that point I had to get to dinner with my boyfriend and his mom for his birthday, and I got fish and chips from this place that is FANTASTIC. And then we made fish and chips for dinner last night!

The good thing is, all that fried food reminded us that because we''re not used to it, we totally got sick. We''re now totally cutting fried foods out of our diets. Tonight it''s broiled chicken breast tenders in a garlic and olive oil marinade and some green beans, plus salad. I felt bad for him, the "Team Mom" on one of the teams he coaches gave him a book that says, "Your fat can make you thin". I was insulted FOR him. This morning for lunch he packed some turkey breat slices with mustard and some veggies. I know he''s going to be hungry and may end up eating something bad, but he got mad at me for telling him so. I''m trying to cut down on my exercise, because I have a bum kicker (my leg) from a sprain, and it kills me to walk. The doc said I''m supposed to keep off it.

I have a question: these steroids i''m taking for my asthma have totally bulked up my middle and it will not go away, what exercises can I do at home to work on this? I have a gym membership, but right now I want to stay at home. Any ideas?

yesterday was gorgeous so I went jogging at Rice. Today I''m going to the gym to do the elliptical after work. I have my engagement pics on Friday (weather permitting) so its crunch time!

Amber,

There is good news and bad news. Here''s the bad:

There isn''t any exercise you can do to target fat in a specific area. Doign crunches, etc, will strengthen your ab muscles but it will not help you lose weight around your mid section. In general, to lose body fat you should do some high intensity cardio, and alternate that with some strength training to prevent yourself from losing muscle as well.

Now, the good news is ... we start losing fat first in the place that we gained it in last. In other words, if you''ve recently gained some fat around your midsection, it is likely to be the first fat that goes if you start exercising.

As far as your leg, I''m really sorry to hear that. That does limit your activity a bit, but do not despair. Try some low impact workouts (elliptical or rower), which won''t put too much strain on it. It will be okay. :)

Hey there ladies.

I had an okay weekend with the food. I drank to much Friday and Saturday with friends... that always gets me. The food itself was better than it used to be, but not great. I went to a friend''s house yesterday for lunch and she made baked penne. I haven''t had pasta in so long. I was amazed that it didn''t stave off my hunger at all. I was starving and my blood sugar was so low about 4 hours later. Think I''ll stick to protein and complex carbohydrates!

Exercise was good. I did 30 minutes of hard cardio on Saturday. Sunday was my day off. This morning I did 25 minutes of cardio and then had my trainer for an hour.

I had my weigh-in on Saturday and I lost 2 pounds! So that''s a lilttle over 5 pounds in 3 weeks. I know I''m right on track, but I do wish it was faster. 12 more pounds until I reach my mini-goal!

To add to what Stermag said...my kboxing trainer says that no amount of crunches or exercise can take away fat in problem areas if you don''t change your eating habits..he was telling me that someone could work out 2 hours a day and eat crap all day and still not lose the weight you want, esp in a problem area like hips or butt or waist. It really does need to be a combo of diet and exercise to get that ultimate goal in your mind...so re: the midsection, I''d keep eating right and doing the cardio or ''high heart rate'' exercises and hopefully that will help. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! It was just a major wasted weekend. Luckily my boyfriend is into the health kick, so we should be off running!

Amanda- Congrats on your WW weight loss- 2 lbs in a week is substantial, even if it seems slow compared to crash dieting. You''re soooo close to your mini-goal already, way to go!

Sounds like everyone is doing great- and we all deserve a fun weekend once in a while, too. Without the occasional splurge we''d go crazy. I''m a big fan of having exercise and diet buddies- it makes everything easier and that''s why we have this forum, right?

I had a good weekend in that I 1) kept to my eating plan and was a good Weight Watcher 2) got almost everything on my to-do list accomplished (major cleaning, organization and other house projects, plus a little time for me with a home-done manicure and some time with my niece, too!)

My ww weigh-in will get put off until wed morning due to a work obligation tomorrow night- hopefully I''ll see a loss as nice as Amanda''s!
