Good morning to all
35.gif
How is everyone doing? I am on track and started my first session of arm exercises this morning, thanks to all who helped! Had a good day yesterday food wise and drank all my water so quite pleased overall.

Good for you Lorilei!
I am stuggling to try and get my water in during classes and to keep my eating habits under control. Beh, I suck. I will exercise three times a day, but unless I change my eating habits I wont be seeing any positive changes.

Heading to the gym for what will most likely be a weights session. Unless something inspires me on my walk over and I decide to run again. I''ve found that whatever activity I really see myself progressing in is the one I look forward to the most.

Anyway, a formal HELLO to luscious!

And a Good Morning to everyone else. Enjoy your workouts.

M

Well done Mat and Stermag - yes and a big welcome to our new DWT member Luscious

The water thing is hard, do you carry small bottles Mat that you can use? What works for me is a pint in the morning, one through the morning, one after lunch and one after dinner, it is just finding the best way for you. I am going to do the arm exercises twice daily to hopefully get fast results!

The great thing is we have just bought a great new Whirlpool fridge ( a huge luxury in England) with the water and ice dispensers so we are just waiting for the plumbing bits to arrive then I can throw out my huge water storage bottle and have chilled water and ice on tap!

It is not needing the water it is just that when I drink water I have to pee all the time, and my classes at 90min...so I dont drink anything during the day becuase otherwise I would be in the ladies room during class. So now I am trying to get a bit of water in my before 8am, and after 2:30pm or somedays after 5.

I''ve been having water issues to...I got sick yesterday after my run bc I didn''t bring a water bottle with me and ended up feeling feverish and really stuffy/tired.

I think I must invest in a nalgene....also, for those of us who haven''t been working out heavily in the recent past, how many times a week are you going? I am starting at 5 and working up to six. Today is an off day and I will be doing some situps and pushups.

Matatora: 90 min classes suck. I understand. I never drink enough unless I am at home.

Does anyone know the best weight training to do for bad knees? THey run in my family and I don''t want to just not run; however I heard there are exercizes that will help build up the muscle supporting the knee.

Miss Matatora- I know lots of us are in the same "pee situation"

- I''m in the car all the time now working in Westchester County and I swear I''m slowly turning yellow! I greet my accounts with "I''ve got a great new lens style to talk to you about but PLEASE where''s the restroom?!" Bet my sales will be down until my bladder stretches.

How great to see so many new names on this thread, everyone is doing so well. I still don''t have my elliptical, although I did sneak in a little workout on it at my parents'' this weekend. I actually can''t find anyone w/a good enough back to help me move it, think I''ll have to hire a service.

Good news is that I had my first WW weigh in tues night and I lost 4.2 lbs. Although my 1st two tries at WW I lost 6 lbs the first week, I''m still happy because faster isn''t always better. I''m not having any problem keeping within my points, I''m finding the eating to be pretty easy.

Mat, have you thought about trying something along the lines of the WW points system to help you with your eating. I know I need the structure.

Congrats to Lorelei, Stermag & Mat on the exercise- great inspiration and I''m feeling a little guilty. I guess I could be outside right now before work getting some walking in but I just can''t stand the cold. I''m missing my daily time walking my territory in NYC, I think that also helps (I''m only there 2 times a week.) I need to start with the Bridal BC weights to get some muscle.

Have a great day, ladies & keep up the great job!

Thanks FFF, I want to start on my exercise bike but it is in the garage and it is far too cold here for me to do it
32.gif
So I have made a little start with the arm exercises where I can stay nice and warm indoors

Mat I know what you mean about the water - that''s why I try to get mine in earlier in the day or I am in and out of bed all night

I've just gotten back from the gym and I'm glad to say my bench press is improving. I'm up to 65lbs (bar + 2 x 10lb coins). Two years ago, at the top of my game, I was benching 100. I'm determined to beat this goal by year's end.

In terms of water intake, boy do I suck. I really just don't like ingesting liquids. I know, weird, right? I feel like drinking is so laborious... but I must try harder.

M

Stermag, it''s hard at first but you just need to get into a routine with drinking water, there are so many benefits to it with your skin and body. I drink 2 litres a day and it is routine now.

Great job everyone!

Jelly and I walked for 30 minutes this morning. I plan on doing 30 on the excercise bike tonight. I find that splitting up my workout time works well for me. I also sleep really well when I work out at night!

Here are some other goals in my weight loss project:

1. Don''t eat/snack after 7pm.

2. Before any snack, I must drink a glass of water.

3. Slow down my eating. Enjoy my food, don''t scarf it down.

Good morning all!

I motivated this morning and went to the gym eventhough I didn''t have my trainer. I did 15 minutes on the stair master (that thing really kicks my butt!) and 45 minutes on the treadmill. Someone left a magazine there so I read it while listening to my ipod -- the time really flew by.

I have issues with water too. I try to drink a lot of water at restaurants but I failed last night. I was very good with the eating though -- we went for sushi and aside from some rolls, I had sashimi. We ordered some and then we went in for a second round and I was very pleased when I realized that I was full and didn''t order anything more!

I keep feeling that I should look like I''ve lost more weight. I hate being so patient!

FFF -- congrats on the 4.2 pounds! I wish I could lose that much in one week! I''ve eaten much better this week, but it''s my PMS week and I''m bloated, so I don''t know what my weigh-in will be like on Saturday.

Amanda I have found that since drinking all the water that I no longer suffer from fluid retention which is great. Also I find that for me, weight loss happens in cycles - nothing much happens for a couple of weeks then BAM it drops off and it shows. I know it is so hard to be patient but slow and steady wins the race and look for all the little positive changes to keep you motivated and reward yourself with non food treats. It sounds like you are doing great though - everyone seems supermotivated at the moment

My goal for this summer is to be able to wear a tight fitting T shirt once I get my arms in shape. Also changing your hair, makeup or perfume is a good move I find as it accentuates the changing you and helps you see yourself diffferently

Hey all! Happy Thursday!

Thank you to Ster and Lorelei for the formal welcomes...LOL
It is nice to be welcomed...plus I love reading your posts.

Ster, I used to hate working my chest...blecha...but I too have the goal to bench 100 lbs. I have been trading out exercises each week and trying different combinations of weight and reps to build strength. I confess (don''t hate me
40.gif
) I am up to 3 set of (6-8) at 95lbs, so I know you can do it too! Go Girl!

This is a rest day for me...so I am trying to be good as far as intake goes...I too have an issue with getting enough water. I did get a great bottle (with a runner''s straw)a few months ago that I use in the gym...On a good workout day I consume as much as 48 oz (2 bottles of water)by the time I am done. On workout days I seem to get enough water...It is the non-workout days that are hard. (*while typing this picks up water bottle and drinks 6 oz*)

"Does anyone know the best weight training to do for bad knees?"

Hey there rainbowtrout! I have a suggestion for your knees...try LEG EXTENSIONS. Most gyms have leg extension machines. These will build up your quad muscles and provide better support for your knees.
Also make sure you are stretching your IT BANDS. In 2003-2004 I trained for a marathon...(trust me I do not have a runners body by any stretch of the imagination) and pulled my left IT Band...Aaaarrgghh! It felt like someone was taking a hammer to my knee and it took forever to heal...SO make sure you do some real good stretching as you warm up and when you finish exercising.

Ok have a fab day!

I''m so glad that everyone is really finding good solutions to individual difficulties.

I used to not drink water when I was younger but now I get through quite a bit of it (definitely over 64 oz) every day. I work in a lab, which is challenging because I can''t keep a water bottle at my desk, nor can I drink water while I''m doing experiments, which is a lot of the time. I do keep my water bottle just outside the lab area though and I make it a point to have some whenever I go by and don''t have gloves on. I also try to drink an entire 16 oz mini-Nalgene''s worth every time I drive somewhere which is usually at least twice a day, and an entire 16 oz with every meal minimum. I agree about having the fresh cold water on tap - we live in an apartment with a built-in dispenser in the fridge and that definitely helps, although a Brita filter works well too, kept in the fridge.

I went to my sculpting/cardio class yesterday and I''m nice and sore this morning. I''m going to do some cardio tonight, either class or on my own. Eating is going OK, in spite of being super-stressed about my qualifying exam coming up in a few weeks. Wow, writing that I''ve realized its now less than 4 weeks away! AAHHH!!

Getting enough water is always a toughie for me. I always thought it was plain and yucky, compared to flavored drinks. But I''m slowly training myself to drink at least one liter a day. I drank half a liter yesterday!

I did 2 miles on the treadmill yesterday and 10 minutes on the stairmaster. I''m planning on going to the gym again tonight to get some more time on the treadmill. Let''s hope I won''t be too tired after work.

I''m also calorie counting, so hopefully, that''ll help with my efforts.

wow everyone is so chipper and motivated today, how awesome!! tonite i am supposed to go to kbox but my arm was still hurting me last nite and i don't know if i can do the class with a lame arm so we'll see....i may just do a 2m walk based on how i feel.

congrats FFF on the 4lbs, that is sweet! my GF started WW after the 1st again (she was on it last fall but went off for holiday) and lost 3 lbs first week so she's very happy as well. you mentioned needing that structure for eating, some people definitely do, she takes the meals with her for lunch and does their breakfast and a recommended at home dinner like fish or something.

for me what has really helped immensely with food is planning it out, even a few hours in advance, that way it stops a 'craving' from taking over. also for a snack, has anyone tried the kashi bars? they are awesome!! they are something like 110 calories, really high in fiber and protein and low in fat. they are mostly all nuts and grains. if i am starving in the late afternoon esp before my kbox class i eat one of those and it tides me over until dinner which is typically later like 9pm on workout nights. they are a great high fiber snack. also i was really craving citrus recently so i gave in and bought a bag of navel oranges, they taste so yummy....so that is a snack for me as well.

someone mentioned goals for them, my biggest goal right now having kind of mastered the whole eating well to a comfort level for me is to employ more portion control just mentally. AP mentioned it when she said she realized she was full and didn't need to keep eating. that's a huge thing for me, i ADORE food so i always want to finish it, esp if it's yummy. greg is a plate cleaner too! so not necessarily at every meal but at maybe 2 out of 4 i am trying to think, hmm do i really need that whole thing? on monday we typically get burritos and split a quesadilla, and i asked for 2 tacos instead and had a 1/2 quesadilla. it was just right, i was just a bit full and not STUFFED to the gills like i typically am. i also am trying not to eat my whole salad at lunch, but rather to pick slowly at it and see where i feel full. then i can have a snack later in the day...i have done this the last few days and it seems to be working fine.

kind of a random funny, i guess this is a compliment but when i was traveling in vegas with my coworker she said the funniest thing as i was drooling over the various dinner menus in the hotel room...she said 'you sure do eat alot for a skinny girl'. i was like oh you think i'm a skinny girl!! i do love food.

I know what you mean about the portions and when to stop Mara - I have trained myself to stop the moment I start feeling full and this seems to really help, but I never let myself get too hungry as that is fatal - binge anyone?

luscious,

25lbs a side? Excellent showing! I used to weight train with my boyfriend, back when we had access to the same gym. He bench presses trucks and it was great watching everybody''s mouth drop when he did 6-8 reps with four 45lb plates a side (that''s 405lbs, if my math is right) with only ME to spot him.

My ultimate goal is to be able to go to town with one of those on each side, but that''s 135lbs... we''ll see.

Happy Thursday everyone.

Wow! Your guy does some serious lifting! That is cool! I just love that I am getting stronger. I keep a detailed log for each week...and it is fun to go back to 6 months ago when I could barely press the bar alone. I always approach it as a fun challenge, knowing in the back of my mind I am getting healthier.

I look forward to reading more of you posts.

Peace
Elise
