Good morning,
I am in a pretty good mood today although work will be very busy! I worked out last night at the gym and then did a tape this morning. So i''m at 3 days now, 2 to go! I ate ok last night. I was hungry before I went to the gym so ate too much but then just had a big fruit salad later. I think it worked out ok. Still trying to keep drinking water.

It''s almost Friday!

Have a good Thursday everyone.

Hi Amy!!!!

Glad you started the thread. I seem to have been preoccupied elsewhere on the forum :)

Anyway, went to the gym this morning and did some weights. My bench press is improving. 95lbs is a lot more comfortable than it used to be 3 months ago.

I have tomorrow off from work, and don''t think I will be exercising, but I have a 6 mile run on Saturday, a trial of sorts before the real thing, so it''s probably good that I rest up tomorrow.

Where is everyone else? Unclench your fists and post about your work outs... it''s therapeutic! heheheheh.

Breathe in.... breathe out.... :::smirk::::

morning all.

i was supposed to have a workout free night yesterday, because my bookclub was meeting -- but, something came up and i had to skip the gathering. i contemplated just taking the day off anyway, but then i decided it was nice and i''m on a good streak...

i went running outside for the first time in about three months. it was quite a different experience then the treadmill. on the treadmill i can easily see my goal of either time/distance and get to it. on the road, it''s a little bitter harder to self-pace. but, it was a lovely evening and it was a good half hour run.

then i did my pilates -- so i have 3 workouts for the week :)

glad to hear that everyone else is being *good*

well i''ve got a cold...

thanks to my darling husband who was sick earlier this week and already is over his small bout with it...grr!!! i hope i can kick it soon...

on a positive note it''s sunny out!!! not a cloud in the sky! so even though i feel like crap, i am going to get my butt outside for a walk today....i can nap afterwards, but i just feel so sedentary since it''s been raining the last 2 days. oh and those 3 cupcakes are busy attaching themselves to my THIGHS as i type this.

yesterday was a good eating day, for lunch out with my friend i had a prawn and snap pea dish and no rice, and then for dinner last nite we had sushi, so yummy and then we each had a cupcake (the last of them!) for dessert back at home. so the evil cupcakes are GONE..thank goodness. this morning was coffee, two sinus and cold pills, and high fiber go lean with a banana.

oh yesterday i also did tons of leg exercises to make up for the not walking thing. today i am going to do some core and arm work and the walk. have a great day everyone and take your vitamins!!

oh i posted this site in another thread but you guys might like it too:

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~fat-burning-foods/normal-fat-burning-foods.htm

i randomly found it while looking for something on google, actually i was curious on if your body burns more calories while you are sick and it does to try to fight the infection, so i figured that was like walking a few miles, hahaa, since walking doesn''t burn all that much calorie wise. anyway, i happened across this webpage which i thought was really interesting as it has information on all those fad diets that are out there and why they are not good for you but also mentions interesting things about apples, oranges, soy as to why they are beneficial for you....and i also found the ''negative diet'' pretty interesting. though seriously one orange would not keep me full for very long. oh and interesting about how your metabolism sleeps when you do and that breakfast wakes it up, so actually the sooner you get up and eat breakfast, the sooner your metabolism wakes up too and starts working. something we all want!

Wow I am way late to this thread today! Our office is closed tomorrow so i''ve been extra busy getting things done so they don''t sit here all weekend.

My workout last night consisted of walking the dog to the mailbox about a block away, about 20 minutes of running around the house cleaning just to get everything tidied up so tonight when I go home I can RELAX and take it easy, and lots of tug-of-war and ball-throwing with Milo (so good for the arms, he is strong!!!)

My foot is feeling much better today. I think I will give it one more night of rest and hopefully tomorrow I can get a few miles in since it is supposed to be nice outside again! Stupid tendons

I really want to be able to walk with my group on Saturday. We should be up to 11-12 miles this week, and I hope the old foot is up to it! BTW, after I injured it last week I did something dumb and wore 3" heels to a party that same night.

I will probably do my best to avoid doing that in the future--i think the combination of whatever I did to my foot that morning and then standing around in heels that night caused the problem. Oh well, lesson learned!

Mara, I know you are a seafood lover

...have you been following some of the news stories lately which discuss the levels of toxins that are supposedly very high in some fish? I was wondering what you thought about the whole issue. Although I am vegetarian, I do occasionally eat fish and I recently had sushi for the first time, but I never worried about it before reading some recent articles. Thoughts?

Stermag, good luck with your run Saturday! you''re my hero!

Amy, good job on your workouts this week. I''m glad to hear you''re feeling better and are more motivated this week.

Lulu, isn''t it funny how different pavement and treadmills are? I have definitely noticed the difference myself, going from treadmill during the winter to sidewalks/pavement when it''s warm out...and I''m totally sold on the fact that you have to be a little more careful outside now that I''ve experienced my first injury, lol!

Have a great afternoon ladies! And a great weekend in case some of you are starting early!

monarch, i actually don''t watch the news (weird i know) so i haven''t seen anything regarding toxin levels in fish but i will definitely check it out...

i know that tuna is heavy in lead (or something like that?) but i just love it! the fish we eat the most is tilapia, tuna, shrimp, scallops, crab. i''m not a huge fan of alot of fishy fish.

Mara,

I think tuna is supposed to have a high''ish level of mercury... Being that I love fish, and hearing this worried me at first, I looked a bit more into the issue a while ago... and honestly, I think the danger is a bit exaggerated.

Of course, in 10-20 years, I might tell you otherwise :)

Hi Ladies - No workout to post today as I am nursing my Fi back to health. He has some sort of stomach/cold/icky feeling type thing.

I wanted to comment though about the whole fish/mercury issue. It is most important for women who are of child bearing age & planning to have a child and young children. EPA Website gives a good summary of the information found by the government. I think it is pretty scary & I tend to be more aware of how much fish I am eating. Generally I don''t like fish all that much, but I''ve been finding that I like a lot more as I''ve gotten older...of course now it''s "bad for you".

I can''t find it right now, but I know there is a quick reference guide with a bunch of different kind of fish & whether they are high, medium or low in mercury. I''ll keep looking!

I''m also off from work tomorrow (YAY!!!!!!!!!!!) so I''m hoping to get in a good workout. I hope I don''t sleep too late & waste my whole day!

I wonder if ''farm raised'' fish would have lower levels of mercury, seems like yes if they are raised in a safe environment. That said I don''t even know if there ARE farm-raised fish out there?!?!?! But it''d be nice. I will have to look into it more.

Well...there are farm-raised Salmon - which has been found to have high levels of PCB''s in it. The salmon absorb it from the food that is fed to them & it is stored in their fat. I''m not sure if there are any other farm-raised fishies.

But on a side note - cows are raised on a farm & there is starting to be a somewhat serious issue in the U.S. regarding Mad Cow disease. I guess we really can''t eat ANYTHING!

.

I am generally not the type to be too concerned, but all of these stories/information can start to get to you after a while. I feel like if we just eat a variety of all foods & d on''t concentrate our whole diet on one thing then we''ll generally be ok.

I found this site:

http://www.deliciousorganics.com/Controversies/wildvsfarmfish.htm

Which is pretty depressing! It says you can only eat Tilapia like once a month and not supposed to eat Seabass and Orange Roughy at all which we LOVE. And we have Tilapia like 1ce a week and Tuna 1ce a week!! WAH!

Though you figure something will get you...nowadays if it ain''t the mercury, it''s the mad-cow or the skin cancer or something else.

Oh dear, that site really is depressing, Mara.

Poo.

Sorry Mara! I kinda feel bad knowing that now you''ll enjoy your seafood a teeny bit less now that you saw that website you posted!

Ignorance is bliss sometimes, isn''t it!

I guess my thoughts on the whole thing are that I feel better knowing more about the issue in general and can make better choices when I do eat fish, and and that it''s true--if one thing doesn''t lead to our demise, something else will. Ironically, I worry very much about what I put in my body food-wise, but I still smoke cigarettes (still trying to quit with limited success), lay in the tanning bed a couple times a month, and drink moderately. So if someone else decides, well, I''m still going to eat fish even though I know it''s potentially bad for me, but I don''t consume x, y, or z because those things REALLY scare me, it''s kind of the same thing.

I found a couple other websites during my 15 minutes of research this afternoon... one was oceansalive.org, and the other was seafoodsafe.com. They both supplied some good info as well if anyone wants to check them out.

Hi ladies- I''m a little late chiming in but I just finished my workout- a 2 mile walk. It was SO nice to be outside- it''s finally hitting 60 here in dreary New England! Yay! Food today was pretty good as well; scrambled eggs in a whole grain wrap with some cheese for breakfast-mmm protein and fiber, veggie bean and cheese burrito, some fruit, veggies, and then dinner was chicken a la king (Yummo!) but I ate a much smaller portion than usual. Things are going pretty well. I''ll probably get in one or two more long walks/jogs before the end of the week!

Good luck with your mini-race this weekend, Stermag!
