Good morning,
I did my second morning workout today. I am so happy to be done! I am liking the morning routine, well, once i''m started I like it. It is haaaard to get out of bed. I have my mom call me though so I have to get out of bed to answer the phone.
Anyway, so yesterday went well for me although I was hungry in the evening so I did some snacking after dinner. My snacks were ok but i''m trying not to snack..although "they" say that small meals are good throughout the day.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Not much to report again, with my new jeans I think I should have got a smaller size though!

I have joined the club with sore arms Mara. Regarding rotor cuff injuries, my Hubby suffers from that and the doctor says they can take a long time to settle and need resting. He also has a band with which he can do some exercises with. I hope that isn't what you have Mara, but take it very easy with that arm and avoid lifting the arm high or carrying anything heavy if you can. Rest is the best thing at this stage but if this doesn't improve it, see the doctor.

My arms and joints are just sore and clicking, hopefully it will settle over the next few days, so I don't have anything to report workout wise.

good morning.

i did a slightly shorter run last night -- 3 miles -- but wasn''t really tired. it felt good. the reason i stopped early was that i forgot my sports bra and was trotting along in a not-so-supportive everyday bra

tonight i''m off because there is a mardi gras parade nearby that is supposed to be a great time. it''s going to be my substitute for the real thing, since i had to cancel my trip do my mom''s surgery...i moved from new orleans this past summer, so i was really hoping to get back there and see post-katrina life in person. that''s just going to have to wait.

Lorelei...you''ll have to put a belt on lass!!!

I saw an advertisment on the TV last night that made me laugh. It was for anti-fit jeans.

Bloddy hell I thought....I''ve been wearing them for years! LOL

In terms of exercise....well in the UK at the moment, we need all our energy reserves just to keep warm. Thank God for thermal vests and big knickers!

One think I don''t have is a belt! Crazy! I have all my thermals on too, I don''t have any fat now to keep me warm!

What, pray tell, are anti fit jeans?

Good morning! I went to my gym last night and started my 12 weeks of training for the marathon walk I''ll be participating in (Avon Walk for Breast Cancer)...I attended the meeting first and then did 20 min. on the elliptical. Not a huge workout for me, but at least I did something! We will start training as a group on Saturday, March 11th. I''m really looking forward to it. Meanwhile, we are on our own for following our training schedule during the week. I did really well with my eating yesterday and am off to a good start today. Since Mara is such a big fan of kashi I decided to try it, and I love it! It''s really filling with a banana sliced on top, and is just the right amount of calories for my diet plan. I''ve been writing everything I eat down in a little notebook, which helps me immensely with staying on track!

Tonight I''m going to do 2-3 miles on the treadmill, and then come home to American Idol, can''t wait!

Amy, good to hear you''re doing well with your morning workouts! I''ve always admired those who can get themselves out of bed so early and do physical activity. I am just not a morning person at all. I get out of work at 4:30 everyday and find that if I get to my gym (which is only 5 minutes away) right then, I beat the rush, so p.m. workouts work best for me.

Hope everyone''s arms get better...injuries suck!

yikes lorelei...

i decided yesterday while going to the store and dealing with my arm kind of spasming on and off while it just rested in my lap that i would not push myself and end up in traction or something...i mean in reality another week off is not going to kill me even though it''s really frustrating. greg is like ''are you really resting your arm?'' and i said ''well its my dominant arm so its really hard to just REST it''...which is part of the problem i think.

so anyway last nite i did not work out, but i have been eating pretty well lately so i feel okay about the forced break...if it''s not raining tonite i will go out and do a walk. i have been doing some pilates legs and abs and also some legs at home (stuff we do in class) so at least i''m not totally doing nothing...but it''s just so frustrating to have to rest when you don''t want to.

i do belong to a gym but i have not been in FOREVER and i always feel like it''s such wasted time to go and do something at a gym for an hour where you don''t get the serious cardio burn like i do in kboxing class (aka burn 200 calories at the gym vs 500-600 in class?), but maybe i can go walk the treadmill or do the bike or something to just get the heart rate up.

i also am paraniod that by doing all this bottom work and ab work that my arms will just fall to pieces and i will have to start from scratch with toning them up again.

damn injuries! so unfair.

everyone else sounds so motivated and great...wahhh!!!! i''m having subway turkey sandwich for lunch (the whole 5 grams of fat sounds so appealing and i love the pepperoncinis) and an orange for a snack. so i''m trying to eat really well this week since greg''s sis is coming on thurs and i know good eating habits will be nonexistent at that point!

I know it is such a pain Mara when you are injured, but I think if you can try to rest it will help things to settle down. Try some warmth on the shoulder area too, as that can help ease the pain and aid healing too. I think mine might be a touch of arthritis, yuk - there went my wrists again

Ah, I thought I''d check in, even though I hardly have the energy to type.

This morning, I managed a quick, hour-long weights session, although I wasn''t very strong.

I find that the harder and longer I run, the weaker I get when it comes to lifting. On the other hand, when I lift and feel strong, my running improves.

I read somewhere that endurance training (i.e. running) is detrimental to weight training, but that weight training is not detrimental to cardio/endurance performance. I guess it sort of makes sense, but it''s hard seemingly having to choose what to focus on.

Do I want to aspire to benching one plate a side or do I want to aspire to running a marathon one day? I''m not sure I can do both.

Anyway, glad to see everyone here today. I was beginning to worry the thread was dying down. :)

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement!

Lorelei, that''s great that you can go down another size in jeans.

That is definite progress! I am ready to see that myself...still waiting though.

Monarch, 12 wks of training sounds intense but fun to do with a group. That''s a great way to get your exercise in. I did a breast cancer walk over the summer which was a new experience. I got my mom, brother and bf to go too so that was fun.
Ya know, I have *never* been a morning person. I was always in awe of those who could work out in the morning. I have always been a sleeper, for as long as possible and staying up late. I thought it would be really hard to get going while working out in the morning b/c that was my past experience. It actually hasn''t been so far. Granted, it''s very hard to actually get up but after that, I like it. I feel much more energy in the mornings... I am very sleepy as I type but luckily, the day is coming to an end here at the office.

I agree that if you workout in the afternoon, going right after work is the way to go. Until starting this morning routine, I try to workout right when I get home b/c otherwise, it doesn''t happen. Part of my problem has been that even though the gym isn''t that far away, I can''t drag myself there unless my son has his class too.

Virginia, don''t worry about not doing too hard of a workout today. You worked out, even when tired and that''s great!

Some workout is better than no workout.

Mara, actually that turkey sub sounds good.

I did the South Beach a few months ago and since then, have cut bread out of my diet for the most part. Now, I just bring turkey sometimes and fruit and veggies for lunch instead of a sandwich. I miss sandwiches! Sorry that your arm is causing you so many problems.

Amy94,

I was very much like you in terms of my sleeping habits. For years, I even started work between 10-11am. Now, I wake up around 6am, run for an hour, shower and arrive at the office by 9 o''clock. But the hardest part for me was not the waking up early part, as much as going to sleep before midnight. I used to lament that there was so little time in the evenings, and that if I had to go to bed at 10:30, I would have virtually no time to myself outside of work. I failed to take into consideration that, when starting work at 11am, I wouldn''t get home until 8 o''clock... so no wonder there was little time.

With regards to energy - from time to time, although very rarely, when it is impossible for us to work out in the morning, we go after work. Now, back in the day, I used to go to the gym straight from the office and always thought it was fine and that I was at my best but boy oh boy.... last Friday we went to run after work and I was POOPED... I mean "hardly putting one foot ahead of the other"-pooped. In the morning, after a good night''s sleep, I really believe to be at my peak. A light breakfast (no milk if doing cardio), and I''m ready to go.
