Good morning,

VENT
Yesterday, the scale was NOT my friend. I had a "power" week of 6 cardio workouts/6 pilates workouts and reasonably watched my diet. at the end of the week, the scale was joyfully reflecting all my hardwork (from the entire 3 months) and i was really happy! However, yesterday, that blasted thing was telling a different story.

I''m giving up the weighing-in for a while. Because, although I tell myself not to be deflated by the numbers, it definately impacts me. I''m sticking with the fact that I can now wear pants that were formerly too tight as a measure of my success.

goodbye scale

good riddens

anyway, i ate smartly yesterday and ran three miles and did my pilates.

I also got a new pair of jeans and the fit like a glove

i now have a new favorite brand!

PS- I am always on the lookout for a great pair of jeans, what brand did you get?

Me too, me too! I''ve had reasonable luck with Lucky Brand jeans... I even found them at Sam''s (gasp!) one time for under $30 and got one pair, but they quickly went... Normally, they''re close to $90.

Anyway, this is a workout thread, right?

This morning was great! We got to the gym a little late, but took our time anyway instead of rushing and cutting corners. After stretching, we sprinted for half a mile. Then did some weights (arms, shoulders, legs). Sprinted for another half a mile and finished off with more stretches and ab exercises. We don''t usually mix too much cardio with strength training, but I think we''ll start... it''s definitely a nice combination. Also, the weights session was quite intense and by the end of it, my arms were so fatigued, I could hardly lift my hand to move hair out of my face.

It''s a sunny, cool (high 60s) day. Hopefully work will fly by...

Virginia, it''s good to have you back. Nice job on the workout this morning.

Lulu, I so feel your pain. Do you know I have not lost a single pound in nearly a month? And I''m still working out 5x a week, and running 12-15 miles. It is most likely because I have reduced my restrictions a bit, and although I am eating sensibly, I have been been indulging a bit more. When it''s so beautiful out, I just love walking over to grab a coffee and sit outside for a bit. Two months ago, anything with sugar was out of the question.

I still have weight goals, of course, but at this point... with my 10k being less than 3 weeks away, the most important thing for me is to focus on stretching, taking care of my foot, not injuring myself and giving my body enough food so that it doesn''t run out of fuel. If I started losing weight right now, it might hurt my performance more than it helps my image.

I will not look at the scale again until after the race. If you are comfortably running 3 miles, that is, by far, more telling of your physical fitness than that darn scale... trust me.

Morning ladies...I have been absent from this thread for a couple days! I did get a workout in over the weekend--I took my dog for a nice hour-long walk to sort of ease myself back into my workout routine. Last week I had a minor foot injury so I did the rest thing all week but worked moderately on upper body strength so all was not lost. I actually lost two pounds despite being less active than usual, so now I have lost 11 pounds and am almost halfway to my goal! I agree about not letting the scale get you down, though, it''s really all about how your clothes fit. I tried on some of my summer clothes from last year and am happy to report that they all fit comfortably again, and some are a little loose! What a great motivator!

I am planning to get in long walk again tonight (my definition of "long" is actually only about an hour or so, or a little over 4 miles), and try to gradually increase my distance the rest of the week. I want to walk with my group again Saturday, and we will be doing 13 miles, so i really need to step it up after taking last week off. Hopefully I can avoid any more setbacks!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

My FAV pair of jeans are Guess, I got them on sale with a coupon for about 40 bucks. Love them!!!

Ladies, I did my weekly pilates training this morning, and I am ALREADY sore! This is going to kick my butt.

Hey lulu, you should definitely get out the tape measure, or go in somewhere and have someone measure your body fat content. I worked out last year for about 3 months, and my body fat went down 8% but I actually gained a pound (but it was muscle!) I dislike scales, they don''t really tell you how fit you are.

Good morning ladies! Sounds like y''all are really doing well. I didn''t post yesterday but it was marathon Monday here in Boston and my fiance and I walked around the city for about 3 hours. We stopped and watched the runners a few times, right near the finish line and let me tell you- that was SO inspiring! I have so much respect for those athletes- what an accomplishment!

Taking yesterday''s inspiration, the fiance and I ran .75 miles! I couldn''t believe it- and I wasn''t even tired. My legs aren''t sore, either. I kept my breath almost the entire time and I probably could have gone the whole mile if I hadn''t been wearing the fleece (it was warmer than I thought it was) and I got too hot. Finished off by walking the last quarter mile. It felt so nice- I am finally starting to understand the whole runner''s high thing- I was really keeping pace for a while. Definitely going to get up early and do it again tomorrow- it felt awesome.

Food should be pretty good today (SO glad Easter is over- that was killer! But that''s in the past). Going to do some abs and arms tonight on my exercise ball.

Hope y''all have a great day!

Thanks ladies for all the reminders that scales don''t tell the whole story. I know that backwards and forwards, but there''s still no denying that when i see the weight dropping it makes me happy

as for the jeans, i had a coupon for 30% off so i splurged on a pair of paige premium denium in the hollywood cut. they are a midrise jean (i think 8 inch) which is key for me because i have a bit of a booty, so i need jeans that have a higher rise. they are soft and then denim isn''t that thick which is ideal for the warmer weather. i spied another girl wearing a pair on the metro and did a little investigation as to the brand. i was drawn to them because they look very classic, simple, not a whole lot of fuss on the pocket stiching which seems to have become omnipresent.

Before I get gasps of horror I just want to say for my figure losing the scales was the best thing I ever did. It freed me from the perpetual cycle of hopping on and off, starving and stuffing according to whether the needle swung right or left. I am now where I want to be weightwise and have been the most successful ever. I don''t even know what I weigh, nor do I care. I too go by how my clothes fit and look and how I FEEL and this works for me. Might not for everyone but I have finally found the key to my weight maintenance, scales play no part in it!

no worries -- I bought mine online from revolveclothing.com, but i''m pretty sure that you can get them from a lot of other places (www.shopbop.com) and in person too. unfortunately, the sale is over -- it was a daily candy deal of the week -- otherwise I would forward that along...

Hey Monarch! Nice to see you! I have been meaning to ask how the quitting smoking is going! I hope all is well! FF has quit (for good, I hope) since that last thread completely! Anyway, I am glad you posted as I was thinking of you!

Congratulations on the weight loss and the clothes fitting better! It is such a great feeling! Summer is around the corner and swimsuit season is almost upon us!
Hi Virginia! I''m so glad to hear your FF is doing so well--that''s awesome! unfortunately I still haven''t quit completely--it''s a struggle all the time. I still keep my nic. gum with me at work just in case, but I have been slipping here and there. It''s getting easier now that the weather is nicer outside and I can get out and be active rather than sit inside and think about cravings, lol! I''m also training for a marathon so that has helped me tremendously. Thanks for your concern--it''s always appreciated!

Lulu,

What a coincidence. This past weekend, I was visiting my parents and we were going out for a semi-fancy dinner. I brought only one set of clothes for this occasion and, an hour before we were supposed to leave, I fried the only dressy top I brought with me with a dirty iron. I ran to the nearest store (Nordstrom Rack) in hopes of finding something to wear... while digging around, a rack of Paige jeans caught my eye.... In fact, I was so impressed, I lost track of time while looking at them... I had never seen them before and I didn''t have enough time to try any on, but I will definitely look for some soon. I need jeans desperately.

The scale is evil!! I never use that thing.

I''m still sick and now I am getting really worried about not being better by Thurs so I did not work out last nite, consoled myself with a Marie Calendar''s chicken pot pie and slept for 9.5 hours. Today I feel better, yay, so hopefully this is progress. I am loading up on zinc, vitamins, echinacea and vit c (actually have been doing that for days) and plan to get to bed again early tonite and sleep in tomorrow as late as I need to so hopefully that will do the trick to make me feel normal again for Thurs. I would love to walk today but we''ll see, yest evening I felt totally inhuman horrible and I''m on my period too so I was a joy I''m sure. I just slumped on the couch under the blanket for 5 hours straight.

So of course now I am also feeling guilty for not eating the best last nite and not working out at all...esp right before Greg''s sister''s visit because we''ll be out eating good food every night, yikes. I was going to be really good this week. So we''ll see....but I just feel so lazy to make us any type of dinner or anything.

On a PLUS PLUS note it''s SUNNY OUT and was yesterday too, should be all week so hopefully I can get out into it later today.

You girls sound all chipper and happy...yay...send me some goawaycold vibes willya??? I got a big weekend ahead of me!

Mara, you might want to consider going to the dr. and asking for a prescription for a z-pack. It''s a 5-day antibiotic thing. Even if you''re sure you have just a bad cold it might still benefit you... the week before I got married I came down with some cold/flu bug, felt exhausted, was very congested and yucky feeling. I went to my doctor and he gave me one of those z-packs, and it was like the miracle cure! i started to feel better the day after I started taking the pills. Just something to consider, especially since you need to be feeling better by Thursday.

Good afternoon all,

Today has been a busy! Virginia, yes, I did go to the gym last night (thanks for asking!). Actually, Mon. and Wed.''s are easier for me since my son has a class there too, I workout while he works out. It''s the other days that are tough! Like today, for instance... I was supposed to get up this morning. My mom even called for my wake up/work out call and I got back in bed and went back to sleep.
14.gif
So that means I have to work out tonight. I was just soooo sleepy this morning. But I am feeling ok about working out tonight. I am going to go right home and get started, otherwise, not too likely to happen.

Monarch, I didn''t know you were trying to quit smoking. Congratulations on what you have accomplished!
36.gif
It''s a big deal and I hope it keeps going positively for you. You can use us here on PS if you need us!! And that''s great about being halfway to your goal. I''m sure that feels very good!

Lovelylulu, I hate the scale as well. It really is almost no good. It seems that until you lose bigger amounts, it''s not reliable. I try to use the body fat percentage but I like the tape measure idea and am starting w/that once I buy one.

Mara, whatever is going around is hitting all over the country it seems. I was sick on and off for about 2 weeks. First, cold like symptoms, then stomach for a few days, then a little better and then bad cold. Yuck!! Hopefully yours will go away soon.

Have a good afternoon to everyone.
