Well, I thought I''d start today even though it is unlikely that I will actually workout at all. If I don''t, it will be the first weekday since January 23rd that I will not exercise and it feels a bit weird.

I have a headache like you wouldn''t believe. I promise to go to the gym on Saturday if I really bail today. Is that fair enough?

Can''t really move my head too much or it hurts, so I''ll just sit here ... very very still.. waiting for updates from all of you and hoping you''re making more progress than I am today.

Aw, Stermag, I''m sorry and I hope you start feeling better. I think that the today-Saturday tradeoff is fair.

I stayed up late working on a paper then managed to oversleep this morning, so no workout. But today''s the one weekday when I have a really long lunch period, so I''m going to try to get in something then.

Anyone doing better than us so far?

I made it to the gym last night!! I did my 30 min of cardio and all my weight lifting, althought I can tell today I didn''t stretch out enough. But, I slept like a rock last night because of it, and now i feel really good today! I am going back again tonight!

12 weeks until I have to put on another bridesmaid dress....that''s pretty good motivation!

Ladies -- how much water do you guys drink a day? I am up to 2 liters now, which sounds like a ton but it helps me keep my hunger down.

I don''t keep track very well. I went through my entire Nalgene last night after dinner, so that''s a liter. I guess it probably comes out to about 2 a day. I also drink 3 glasses of milk a day, yum.

I feel very guilty that I didn''t work out last night, so I will definitely be hitting the treadmill tonight.

I hope your headache feels better Stermag.

I don''t drink enough water, probably only about a liter. I''ve been on the diet A&W rootbeer binge lately. I love how it tastes, and no calories, so I drink that a lot.

I hope everyone has a great workout today!

Coda, is there a diet version of A and W rootbeer???????

I can get it here but didn''t realize there was a calorie free version

Good morning ladies! I made it to the gym last night, despite the fact that it was gloomy and rainy outside and that always makes me want to stay home on the couch and watch t.v. all night! I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, and finally discovered if I cover up the time with a magazine it goes a lot faster! I forgot my headphones last night so I couldn''t watch t.v. like I usually do. I felt a lot better finally getting back to working out, and I plan on going every day this week and doing my walk Saturday. My training program says I should be logging 16-21 miles this week, I think, so that means a lot more walking than usual for me!

I really try to drink more than the recommended 64 oz. of water a day. I quit drinking soda for the most part a couple months ago. I haven''t really noticed a huge difference in anything, but I know it''s good for me so that''s enough.

Stermag, I hope you feel better. Those of you who are beating yourselves up about not working out, don''t! Tomorrow''s another day (or today!)

Way to go Monarch!! It''s hard to get up and motivated when it''s gloomy outside.

I LOVE A&W Root Beer, but my favorite ever is Diet A&W Sparkling Vanilla Cream Soda. Yum. My roomie and I can go through a 12 pack of that stuff in a few days, if we have it. That''s why I''m trying to stick to water!

Ah Stermag... you definitely can wait for saturday... you don''t want your headache to get worse by banging your head around!

I''m FINALLY heading back to the gym tonight for water aerobics (if metro is agreeable this week!) but I''m a little worried about putting on my swimsuit and exposing the GIANT black bruise on my thigh from my encounter with the stairs 6 days ago. Maybe I''ll just rush into the pool as fast as possible to minimize attention. I was joking about it this morning with my BF and he said "people are going to start thinking I beat you considering how often you''re bruised or injured!" I said "only the people who don''t know me very well!"

Don''t rush too quickly or you''ll get another... :)

Lorelei, there is a diet version of A&W, but sometimes it''s harder to find than regular A&W. I don''t think it tastes bad like a lot of diet drinks do, but then again I''ve been drinking diet soda for years. I just can''t see wasting calories on something I drink. I''d rather be eating my calories!

You are a woman after my own heart Coda! Why waste 200 cals on soda, I could have some chocolate for that!

I will keep an eye out for the diet root beer, thanks!

Ok, I will walk CAREFULLY to the pool! :-) Thanks stermag, I''m LOL right now.

My favorite diet soda is the new Peach Fresca. It''s So refreshing! Of course, no caffeine... but so different than regular soda. My BF is hooked on them too and he''s not a diet soda fan.

i hate diet soda so when i feel like i have to have something other than water, i drink tejava, has anyone had that? it''s unsweetened black tea in a bottle, it''s SO crisp and refreshing, i drink it all summer long with lots of ice. i used to have to add sugar to it but now i am used to it totally unsweetened which is great because it''s better for me too.

i didn''t work out yesterday because i was giving my body a day to recover a bit, my legs were killing me from the walk on sunday. i must have lots of lactic acid or something because no matter how hard i work out and how often, my body never gets ''used'' to something to where i''m not sore the next day. it rained again last nite and it''s gloomy again today so we''ll see about walking today. i do have a gym near my work that i belong to so if i feel motivated i will go walk there.

last nite for dinner we had the egg and lemon soup that FG posted in the recipe thread, SO YUMMY!! and healthy too! it''s from cooking light. of course though we had to eat it with crusty italian bread with BUTTER and i had two pieces, bread and butter are my total weakness, oven toasted, yum. but hopefully it wasn''t too bad. oh and all i had for lunch yesterday was a banana, orange and some turkey breast so i figure it balances out.

this morning i had my coffee and fiber cereal with banana; for lunch i am thinking i will just finish off last nite''s soup; and then dinner will probably be our stuffed chicken fave from WF.

don''t worry about missing a day gals and don''t feel guilty! tomorrow is definitely a new day! and just watch your eating today (i try to do that even more on days when i am sendentary) and then you dont feel so bad.

I make iced lemon tea in the summer, it is a powder mix so it is easy and calorie free too! Stermag, I hope you feel better. I feel for you as when I get a headache my teeth even hurt!

stermag and virgina: feel better and definately listen to your body and take a day off when you need it.

i made a totally moronic choice last night. i went to the gym, got changed and realized that i forgot my socks. grrrr. so, i thought -- i can''t work out without socks, but i''m here and i''m dressed...

so, i decided to run. such a poor decision. after 2.5 miles i had to stop because i developed some pretty ugly blisters. now all day today i''ve been limping around...

no cardio for me today

only shoeless, blister-friendly pilates...

Lulu, you are seriously hardcore. Hats off to you. I believe I would be more likely to run barefoot on shards of glass than in shoes without socks.

please don''t mistake ignorance for being hard core

seriously, i don''t know why it didn''t cross my mind that running without socks was about the dumbest thing I could do, but my feet are right now reminding me.

you live, you learn.

Don''t you just hate how foot blisters always take weeks to heal up??
15.gif
They are such a pain literally. I dread it every time I need to get a new pair of boots for around the horses as I know I will have horrific and very painful blisters in store. They take weeks to work in and it never fails - I get blisters every time
14.gif

Lorelei, are you wearing socks that are NOT cotton with your boots? I know the boots are a big part of the problem, but if you wear a sock that is made of synthetic fibers (acrylic, spandex, nylon), it wicks the moisture away from your skin, whereas cotton absorbs moisture and leads to blisters. Just a thought that might help you.
9.gif

Thanks Monarch - I do normally wear acrylic ankle socks, I will give the cotton ones a try as it really is agonizing and the boots keep rubbing

lorelei, i know just what you mean

I do feel for you Lulu - watch out they don''t dry out and split open

you poor thing, I am cringing on your behalf here!

*sigh* I have been the laziest person ever the past week or so. Our race is this Saturday & honestly I''m feeling a little nervous about it. I have bursitis in my hips & I had a serious flare up on Sunday after a day of all-day shopping. (I know that sounds crazy, but walking in shoes, as opposed to sneakers and standing up all day are really the worst things for me.) So I''m hoping that my hip will hold out and I''ll be ale to run in the race & not have to walk (slowly at that) to finish. I want to run 1-2 times before Saturday and get a good nights sleep on Friday with a big, healthy breakfast on Saturday morning.

I definitely need some hard-core motivation. Congrats to everyone who is keeping up.

I realize that the last time I posted was my b-day. Thanks for the well wishes everyone!

BTW: Does anyone have any good ideas for a protein-packed breakfast? I''ve started to notice that my breakfasts are mostly carbs (even if they are whole grain, high fiber, etc), I feel like I''m missing some essential nutrients or something!

I probably drink about my 64 oz. of water per day. I don''t really keep track, but I only drink coffee in the morning, water all day, maybe a juice or diet soda with dinner & then water any time after that.

Protein Breakfast: Eggs!! Overeasy, scrambled, however you like them! Then have a piece of your carb choice (mine is whole wheat mini bagels) and some PEANUT BUTTER! :) That''s not a professional opinion, but I like that as a protein kick in the morning.

Danielle, I wouldn''t be overly concerned about how much you are or are not working out. At this point, you probably won''t be able to build fitness before the race. Try to concentrate on taking care of your hip. It''s great having a race to motivate you, but your health should come first. It''s not the end of the world if you have to walk, and you can always sign up for another race. (I''ve had problems with pushing myself too hard when injured in the past, so I''ve been trying to take much better care of my body.)

I''ve been making a lot of breakfast burritos (with 2 eggs, salsa, and a tortilla) lately. Yummy.

I did manage to work out during lunch. I swam for 47 minutes, which included 20 straight laps of backstroke. And I used to have to take a break between each one if I wanted to get in 10. I was really proud of myself.
9.gif

If you''re used to eating cereals for breakfast, some good protein sources you could add might be soy milk, almonds, some peanut butter on the side... yum!

Danielle,

Blenheim is right - use the time you have left to nurture the hip (most likely by giving it some rest). You can harm your performance a lot more by overdoing the workouts between now and Sat and not being able to run at all.

As far as breakfast - eggs and such are brilliant, if that sort of thing is your cup of tea. If you like cereals, and want a dose of protein, Special K comes in a ''low carb lifestyle'' variety - it''s right next to the berry and the regular one. Surprisingly, it''s very delicious. I highly recommend it. Adding a couple fresh strawberries seals the deal for me. :)
