Good morning! Today I woke up in a great mood because the sun is shining and it should be warm enough for me to take the dog for a walk at lunch today, AND we are going to see Wicked tonight! That means I get to take a night off the walking and RELAX!!!

DH got some great tickets and we will have "suite service" which I guess means some appetizers and drinks

. So I will be off the wagon on my eating today as well, which I''m not going to worry about.

The only negative of having tickets for this date is I will miss AI tonight (for shame, I know!). I will record it, of course, but it''s not as much fun to watch without reading the "live blog" here on PS at the same time--everyone is so funny.

Hope you all are having a great day. Mara, I saw your Whole Foods thread--there are some great recipes on their site, you weren''t kidding! (It''s on the Family, Home, and Health board for anyone else who''s interested.) Unfortunately I don''t live close enough to a Whole Foods, but we do have a Trader Joe''s and Wild Oats close by...I''m sure I could incorporate ingredients from those stores to work with the WF recipes.

I know Monarch, I LOVE the recipes that are on there!! I think you can totally go to other Whole Foodish type stores and get stuff from there...we are so lucky to have a WF near my work office, and they are building one literally 2 blocks from our house in 2007, SO EXCITED. I'll be able to walk over there all the time. Greg is like 'uh oh I can see our grocery bill rapidly expanding'.

We tried the Cumin Ahi Tuna the other nite and it was amazing (did I say that already?)...I really want to try the Lemongrass Curry Seafood Soup this week too, YUM!! Also we often go over and get their pre-marinated chicken kebabs for the grill. They have this marinade called Souxie Wow and it's really good and fat free with only a few calories but very flavorful and a little spicy. We also put it on fish like tilapia to grill and it's very yummy. Versatile!

Anyway, I'm talking about food because I'm hungry, hehee. So on a similar note, I have given fitday.com another try because I am intrigued by the whole % of protein, carbs, fat pie chart and all that they have. I also realized that once I add in my basic daily staples I can just click to add them again so it cuts down on the time I am on the site, really just dinner varies for me from night to night for the most part. I find it interesting that they say that my calories burned daily are around 2400 and then whatever I do to workout. Does it seem like alot to anyone that I'd burn 2400 daily just by doing my daily life stuff? That makes me wonder because if I am trying to eat like 1700 calories a day or so, and doing the walking like 2-3 times a week and working out kboxing 1-2 times a week then am I eating enough? I do want to lose weight but I don't want to be all extreme. But I also don't feel like I am hungry..and if I am I eat an apple or something. So like yesterday according to them (and my calcs) I ate about 1650 calories. But I worked out kickboxing which they say burns about 350 calories in 45 minutes. So if my daily burn rate for yesterday was 2700 calories (2400ish + 350 ish from workout) and I ate 1650 calories ,then I burned 1k more calories than I ate? Is that right?

Anyway, this stuff totally confuses me. I guess that's good right, burning 1k more than eating? As long as I'm not overdoing it?

So worked out last nite and my arm feels GOOD which is GOOD news! I am very excited. I took it kind of easy in class and didn't overdo it and I think it's finally REALLY getting better. If I still feel okay on Thurs I will go to class again. I'll do some walking tonite, ~2m...and eating is on track as well. Tonite I think we'll have something seafood related with a veggie.

Mara, here''s a link that might help explain or clarify how the body burns calories and how many you actually need, etc. I''ve never heard that rule of thumb before, but when I added a zero to my weight, then added my weight, I come up with 1716 calories that I burn just sitting at a desk all day. That''s not taking into account any of my walking or other activity. I would say I actually burn between 2200-2400 on average, so your count of 2400 with exercise doesn''t sound too off. That''s actually an average of how many you burn in ONE whole day (24 hours), so actually 100 calories an hour burned seems pretty realistic. When I walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, or two miles, it says I''ve burned around 200 calories for my weight, so resting I would think I''m burning on average around 100. Make any more sense? It''s confusing--there are so many variables that go into how many calories each individual actually burns.

One thing I''ve always found interesting is that even when you eat or drink, the whole process of digestion actually burns calories! That''s why they say things have "negative" calories (celery, for example), because it takes your body more calories to digest or process them than is actually in the food or drink.

Oh I will have to check that link out Monarch. I did read recently about the negative calories, fairly interesting, apparently alot of fruits you eat are negative calories items because of the energy it takes to burn them.

I am still obsessed with Fuji apples, I have at least one a day...I love them crisp and cold sliced from the fridge. I figure it is a snack that is low in cal but high in satisfaction, got some vitamins going on, and the dentist suggests them too.

Monarch I checked out that link, but it's a little confusing because it doesn't tell you how to calculate anything other than the BMR. So my BMR is 1500 but how do I add anything other than resting rate into that.

So I found this link while looking for another really specific calc:
http://freedomfly.net/Articles/Nutrition/nutrition14.htm

Which actually has some calcs that are interesting. So according to this formula, my BMR is 1472. Which is very close to the other link's 1500. And since I do 'light exercise' 1-3 days a week, they say that my TDEE (aka total daily energy expenditure) is 2024 calories. So I should be aiming for under 2000 calories to lose weight.

This seems pretty spot on, 2400 to me seems like alot...but then again these calcs are all so different, that is what gets confusing! I am aiming for under 1800 calories a day or so, so I guess that's okay if 2000 is what I average out on expenditures. I may work out a little more than 'light exercise' but I figure I can err on the side of less.

So I finally decided to get back on the wagon, in some form or fashion. My fiance and I alternate days on getting up with the dog first and today was his morning. I decided to take the opportunity and going run/walk half a mile. Not too much, but man, I totally lost of the stamina I had been building up. Since we''re still working on a routine with our puppy (and my fiance working late almost every night until the budget season is done) it''ll probably be a little while before I''m really back on track, but with the wedding looming I need to get motivated again. Plus, I was really enjoying the time I was spending exercising- oh! And my iPod decided not to be broken anymore, hurray! So anyways, I''m going to try and be a more regular poster.

Random side note, I tend to binge on weekends and it hadn''t occurred to me why that was. Then today it dawned on me- I skip lunch almost every Saturday and Sunday! Not good! No wondering I consume 3 million calories at dinner both nights. So, new goal- eat lunch on weekends.

Hi everyone,

I am back in town and attempting to get back on track! I didn''t do too terribly while gone but didn''t pay all that much attention to eating right. Luckily, I was staying w/family and they made a decent effort to eat fairly well on most days. Of course, once I started to not care as much, my eating habits suffered. I find that it''s very easy to get side tracked. I also didn''t work out at all while gone.
So that week is over. I did force myself to workout yesterday. I am glad I did, but I was so very close to not going to the gym. I also did leg exercises last night. I thought my week was off to a good start and planned to work out this morning but woke up and felt terrible. So my plan is still to workout tonight even though I REALLY don''t want to. I just don''t want to get too far off track and then have an even harder time getting back to the routine.

My eating wasn''t great yesterday either so I need today''s workout. So i''ll see. If i''m not feeling better when I get home, I may just stick to 4 days this week.

Monarch, Happy Belated Birthday!

You may have posted already but if not, what did you do?

Have a good evening!

I had my weight in with weight watchers today after joining last week and was delighted to find out that I lost 4 and a half pounds-woohoo!! Lets hope there''s lots more of that to come

congrats bee! that''s fabulous.

dixie good to see you back and good to hear you are back on track sarfar!

dinner tonite is the Dijon Bay Scallops recipe from the whole foods website over linguini. 350 calories and 2.5g of fat per serving and you can''t go wrong with dijon, LOVE IT. i will report back on taste.

Great job, bee!!

Monarch and Mara -- thanks for your comments yesterday -- I didn''t get back in time to respond. Monarch-- I really feel like you get what I feel (the mental game) -- and it''s totally the same with music or any "performance." I thought about the all-girl gym, but I wanted to do this with my BF..I will just have to suck it up when I''m on my own every now and again -- it''s not a meatmarket, thank goodness. Very small, community-only type gym. It''s worth the extra $ not to be surrounded by a million people :)

So we went to see the Da Vince Code last night, and managed to get to the gym afterward. Today''s been a bad eating day though- --just plain hungry! Hope you are all having better days!!!!

Dixie -- you can do it!

SarFar-- yes! get motivated! post more! this place alone helps, I''ve noticed.

My plans for this evening include vegging in front of the t.v. and watching IDOL of course, and then the season finale of 24 (from last night). Not burning many calories tonight (and strangely worth it!) Monarch, enjoy Wicked -- I''ve heard it''s great!

jen

oh yes monarch enjoy Wicked!! I would love to go see it!! and eat a yummy dinner after!

THANKS for the websites girls! Ive been off the wagon for a few days, but tomorrow its all back on!

yay! I''m so happy to see the thread so active again!

I never made it to the gym yesterday. At about 3pm, I got the worst sinus/allergy headache, so I had to come home & sleep it off. It was terrible, and I was more upset about not being able to go to the gym than the headache itself.

But today, I am feeling much better & I just returned from the gym. I ran a quick mile on the treadmill, did some abs & then lifted weights for my lower body. My goodness, did it hurt?! I''ve been so concentrated on running that i definitely had some muscle atrophy going on. I''m hoping to feel the burn tomorrow
2.gif
.

Again, I''m happy to see everyone back in action & keep up the good work!

Flip and I didn''t walk tonight. I had to go to the grocery store and yeah, time got away from me. But we did hit the gym today, and I''m happy about that. We did lunges, stretches, leg extensions, what I call the *butt machine.* We walked a mile, too. I need to wake up early tomorrow though, so I can walk my dog. She seemed sad today when we didn''t go and it got dark.

my dog always has that sad face too when I dont take her for a walk-I decided to drive out to the beach last night and let her go into the water-her favorite treat!
