Morning everyone,
My day finished off ok yesterday. I seem to be pretty hungry at night so tend to do more snacking. I kept going back for more fruit last night b/c i''m trying so hard not to eat something bad...so I ate lots of that! It can be tough to resist temptation. I didn''t work out this morning but am going to the gym after work. I''m actually looking fwd to that, sort of. It will be my 3rd day this week and I feel pretty good about meeting my 5day goal...as long as I can keep up those morning workouts Thurs and Fri. I do feel very, very tired this morning. Last night, I really wanted to stay up and watch a tv show at 10 but I made it to 9:36 and could no longer keep my eyes open. But I am willing to make the adjustment to mornings.
Stermag, I agree about having more energy to work out in the morning, but it''s weird, b/c I really thought it would be the opposite. Maybe a silly question but why don''t you have milk in the mornings when doing cardio?
Hope everyone else is doing well and the injuries are feeling better.

After 4 days of not working out, I''m going to get back into it tonight. I''m trying not to get upset about not getting as many workouts as I want in the week, but the guilt sometimes creeps in. I was also kind of bad about my eating last night, so I''m feeling fat today. The hubby and I went out and celebrated Mardi Gras, so I had 3 beers, 5 chicken wings, and split a crab dip with him. Oh well, back to the routine, and hopefully I''ll get 3 workouts in this week anyway.

I hope everyone else has a good workout today!

I''m a runner, so I can answer this question from that point of view (but it may be different for different types of cardio). Some people have more sensitive stomachs than others, and certain foods can be worse for giving them cramps or making them feel nauseated when working out. It really just varies on the person. Personally, I feel pretty sick if I drink milk before running, so I just avoid it. I love a big glass of milk afterwards though!

I feel like many people can handle a banana or slice of toast before a morning workout, and then a more substantial breakfast afterwards.

I usually feel ill if I eat before I work out so I if I have to have something I have an orange or something small.

I had my trainer this morning but I was really dragging. If I drag myself to the gym tomorrow it will be 5 times this week. My eating hasn''t been great though so I need it.

Nothing to report, too busy with other things to do much and eat properly, but hopefully back on track tomorrow. I could just eat a huge portion of fish and chip shop chips, but I won''t though

Today I want grease and fat and oil and salt..... I had better stop now, good job to everyone else

Amy,

Blenheim is exactly right. One's reaction to milk, particularly before running or other intensive cardio, is really an individual thing but it seems that a LOT of people don't respond well to it before a streneous workout.

In general, even a very mild lactose intolerance that you don't otherwise notice can manifest itself during a workout if you've consumed dairy prior to exercise.

Also, someone once explained it to me this way, but I'm not sure how scientific it is:

So, milk is generally difficult to digest so it stays in your stomach as your body attempts to metabolize it. During digestion, blood generally travels to your stomach to aid in the process (disperse nutrients, etc), but as you're running, blood is taken away from the stomach to carry oxygen to your muscles.... the stomach is then like "Crikey, I have all this stuff to digest but I can't do it very well right now so maybe I'll just throw up?"

:)

Even if that's not exactly how it happens, you have to admit it's pretty funny, no?

ETA: and speaking of running, today was my light day - 2 miles on the track and 15-20 minutes of stretching. I am happy to say that after only two days of wearing shoe inserts with arch support, my heel pain has largely subsided... so, hopefully I won't have to deal with a full blown plantar fasciitis after all.

so last nite i actually dug out a bunch of pilates exercises i used to do and did those at home along with some interval exercuse, run in place, kicking up the heels and then alternating with lifting the knees run in place stuff, saw these in the latest cooking light (also we do them in class so i figured why not) as well as crunches and a few rounds of high and low air kicks (again something we do in class) so i feel like at least i did SOMETHING...i have decided to give my arm the real rest it needs so we''ll see how long til it feels better.

because i haven''t been able to *really* work out, i have been really eating strictly this week..aka subway 5 grams of fat turkey sandwiches for lunch and salads and soup for dinner kind of thing. one cookie and one orange for a snack kind of thing. it''s not sustainable for me but at least it makes me feel better to feel like i am doing something more than just sitting around moping about my arm.

hoping to get a walk in this afternoon after a client meeting, it''s sunny after 2 full days of rain and will start raining again tonite til saturday, yikes!!

hang in there girls, spring is just around the corner and my charlotte pants don''t hide A THING. so extra motivation!!

oh and speaking of cooking light, i used to be a fan of this magazine and kind of lost track of it and saw it on the newstand the other day and it''s a huge packed full issue with lots of soup recipes ( i love soup!), lunch options, some slow cooker/crock pot recipes and a healthy mac and cheese dish, yum!! so if you see it at the store and are tempted, i highly recommend it.

Hi all!

instead of going to my mini mardi gras celebration, i went to the gym! it was a little too cold out for me, plus celebrating in Washington, DC didn''t really seem all that equivalent...anyway, i did 4.5 miles on the elliptical. and while the scale tells me i''m losing weight, i''m not really seeing it in my clothes. HOWEVER, i have noticed a huge increase in my cardio stamina and that gives me a huge satisfaction!

Yay!! This is my first time posting in the work out thread!! I haven't had a regular workout routine in years since I stopped dancing ballet. But this morning I went to an indoor rowing cardio-technical workout with my BF. It was SOOO much fun!! I think we'll go again on Friday. Has anyone ever done scull rowing? I can't wait until we get to actually do it on the water

sunkist, rowing is hard!! greg is a rower and even going 2ce a week to row on the water keeps him in tip-top shape...it''s so intense.

i would be a great rower according to him, i have alot of strength...but there is no way im getting up at 4am to row at 6am on the water. HAH. so guess i won''t be rowing.

i went and did 2 miles at the park today with a very quick walk, nice and sore from last nite and then today so i feel good i did something!
