Another weird weather day in DC. Where I was, the weather was fine and then turned into a two minute torrential downpour? however, my co-worker said she experienced a mini-blizzard while waiting for the train in maryland.

Anyway, back to the thread:

Yesterday, I did three miles on the treadmill, but i have to admit it was really hard to run the entire time. wonder why? it''s what i normally can do? maybe it was the almost-entire-week-off? or maybe just a tough day. but, i persevered and felt good afterwards...it definately put your 10 miles into perspective stermag. GOOD LUCK!!!!

ate well.

Going shopping tonight, so we''ll load up on veggies and fish and chicken...

also, didn''t meet friends out for a drink -- i told them i''m in detox for a while

finally, i''m wearing a pair of pants to work, that up until now, had been a tad too snug to sport. hurray for small victories

how''s everyone else doing?

Lulu, fortunately, it''s not 10 miles but 10km, so about 6.2 miles. 10 miles would be a kamikaze mission for me!

I, too, did 3 miles on the treadmill this morning - I ran it at a comfortable pace and wasn''t overly tired, but my feet (heel and blisters) are a bit bothersome... and made their presence felt early today.

I also took it easy last week, worked out 4 times but hardly ran. Maybe my foot is getting even.

It''s a beautiful day here today. I wish I didn''t have to be at the office.

How''s everyone else this morning?

Yea!!! on the pants Lulu!!!

I''m telecommuting today and yes, indeed, we had a mini-blizzard about half an hour ago... I was looking out the window talking on the phone and then WHOOOSH! SNOW! and LOTS OF IT! It was like being in the middle of a snow-globe because it was sort of swirling around in a big circular updraft... I don''t think any of it actually hit the ground. I was getting a little worried about all the new plants on the patio, but it stopped as quickly as it started. It''s APRIL now, time to be warm!

I''m going to hit the grocery tonight because we''re all out of veggies and fruit and those are the staples ''round here these days. I was craving sweet potato fries last night but alas, none in the kitchen. We had sauteed spinach instead, with organic penne and diced tomatoes, cheese, and a bit of chicken. It was good... but I still would have rather had the yams.

Water aerobics rocked last night! We were throwing weighted balls in the air while hopping across the pool on one foot! Talk about needing coordination... Except I kept getting splashed in the eyes with chlorinated water and my contacts weren''t very happy about that. It was a fun class, more so than usual. Glad I made it! Tonight will be more cardio.

I''d like to join this thread. My fiance and I have been trying to get in shape, but last weekend I got a RUDE awakening. I went to pick up my dress and I tried it on...and it took two people to zip it up! I was mortified. Granted, I''m glad it zipped, but I couldn''t breathe.

So, with that reality check, we have embarked on a renewed mission for health and fitness, which includes a 6 am wake-up call for jogging- yuck! We usually jog about half a mile (and I''m dying at the end of it) and then walk about another mile. I have also been reducing my caloric intake, and I am hoping for success. The whole dress fiasco just showed me how lax I''ve become and I bought the dress in November- that holiday/winter weight definitely crept up on me.

Hopefully this thread will inspire me to greater health and fitness achievements- or at least give me some moral support.

Congrats Lulu on the pants! I love when that happens!

Sumbride, you must be on the East Coast- I''m in Boston and definitely feeling the snowglobe effect as well. I''m originally from Texas and was there last weekend- I miss hot weather!

Welcome SarFar! When is your wedding? You can definitely get in shape... and hey, at least they COULD zip your dress!

I''m in Baltimore/DC, but originally from Texas as well! I can''t stand cold weather. I don''t know how you can live in Boston! My best friend moved there last year and she''s having a hard time with it.

welcome superstar!! this thread is great and i''m certain that you can definately fit comfortably back into your dress with some additional exercise and a smart diet. how long do you have before the wedding?

and come back virgina -- we miss you! i had a similar vacation from diet and exercise

but now i''m back with renewed dedication and you''ll feel more motivated once you start up again.

get better soon!

there seem to be an awful lot of people battling the flu in my office...

Hey Virginia -
Sorry to hear you''ve been so sick!!! I hope you''re better soon. I had a stomach flu at the beginning of March and dropped 8 pounds in 3 days... not a GOOD way to do it, but fortunately I''ve kept it off. I felt so weak for a long time afterwards though.

And yep, I''m one of those (no longer rare) people who live in Baltimore, where good housing is CHEAP, and commute to DC. I work downtown 4 days a week, hoping to make it 3... I lived in Arlington for 5 years, Silver Spring for 1, but the BF decided he wanted a house, and my commute was the sacrifice to have a nice home. I love it, but it wears on me.

Maybe we should do a LIW DC happy hour? I think there are a few of us!

The wedding is in October, so I know I can definitely make the dress fit fantasticly by then. Food is just such a weakness for me- Gluttony is my favorite of the vices. However, that dress is some serious motivation so hopefully I''ll have a change of heart from now until October and actually like exercising- here''s hoping!

nothing motivates me like the VS catalog!! hehee. virginia sorry you have been sick, losing weight is that odd 'perk' that kind of makes you feel better, as you lay in bed blowing your nose and clutching your stomach.

it's so funny, i was looking back at our engagement party pictures from what, 3 years ago? i looked thin! but at the time i remember thinking i wasn't thin at all, this was before the wedding so i was on a mission. go figure...funny how skewed our perceptions are of ourselves at the point in time and then a year or two later with more perspective (or a few more lbs gained) you are like WOW i looked good! or maybe it was just the dress.

anyway, i did 2m yesterday evening, going to do another 2m today, i am SO over the rain and weather, seriously depressing. esp now that it's APRIL in california, last nite we were wondering WHY we lived here and paid these exhorbitant prices just to have rain for a month and a half.

last nite we had the red beans and rice with turkey sausage from CL and it was great! definitely a hit. tonite i am going to see if Greg wants to go get sushi, craving some fresh fish! have a great day gals!!

mara: my friend the other day was just echoing that same sentiment. she has put on a fair amount of weight over the last few years. nothing tremendous, but nothing to be happy about either. she was just saying how back in college, when she was basically at a weight that was ideal for her body and looking great, she still felt a little overweight. she was thinking back on it being like "man, why couldn''t i just appreciate that i looked great" i think it happens to everyone.

Sad to report I did not make it to the gym last night, but I did walk to and from work so I got some activity in. I will be going tonight, though, and making up for my lost time so far this week!

I''m having a "bloated" week, so my weight is kind of fluctuating and is not making me feel too good. Hopefully drinking lots of water and getting plenty of exercise will help me out a little. No wonder it''s easier for men to lose weight--they don''t have to regress slightly every few weeks!

Keep up the good work everyone, and I hope those who aren''t feeling well get better soon!!!

So, just my random thoughts but...

If you (the general you, not you) are looking back on photos from X years ago and think "wow, I looked fabulous" but remember yourself back then thinking "god, I really need to get in shape"... it''s possible it wasn''t your body, but your body image that needed, and likely still needs, work. :)

On the other hand, I suppose that, no matter how great we look, there is nothing wrong with a healthy desire for even more self-improvement... Perfection is not attainable, which doesn''t mean we can''t strive for it.

stermag: i agree that it''s definately all about body image. people can love their bodies if they are thin and fit or perhaps a bit more curvy and shapely.

when my friend and i were having this conversation about not being contented about weight, even at a really good weight, she was thinking back to being in college. and i think that is a time in life when girls are very influenced by the people around them and a healthy body image is a somewhat vulnerable thing --

i''m sure some people worrying about weight may not be in the positive healthy state of mind, you stated about having room to improve, but maybe perhaps trying reaching perhaps an unrealistic ideal. that''s why i like our thread. everyone here seems to take a really healthy and balanced approach to getting fit!

actually i know i was in great shape back then, i was kickboxing 3-4 days a week with high cardio (different from what i do now which is more training with bags and muscle resistance) and eating very healthily, but i think at the time i thought i still needed to do *more*. also i think mirrors are more deceptive than photos. i do remember looking at the engagement pictures then and thinking i looked great. but i think it was more like the unrealistic goal thing going on, es since i was getting ready for the wedding. so NOW i am like wow i was actually where i wanted to be but didn't really realize it! i think it's also very hard to look at pictures of ourselves and be objective about stuff as well, esp when you feel like you are working towards a goal and progress could be slight.

I can definitely relate to looking back at old pictures and remembering that even though I was thinner, I still had bad days and felt "fat" sometimes, although I wasn''t at all. I think it''s just a case of "the grass is always greener," or what we call here on PS "the shrinkage factor." I don''t think I had an overall negative self-image back then, I just think sometimes I had days where even though I was wearing as small a size as I ever will, I thought I should be a little thinner in my areas that didn''t quite fit into my ideal measurements. I do remember always rationalizing it by telling myself, well, I may not have the biggest chest or the smallest hips, but I do love the shape of my _____. As long as I could find something I did like about myself, I knew I''d never fall into having a bad body-image.

I still do that today, although I have gained some weight and am working on losing it. Even during my most negative days, though, I really try to remind myself that, for example, I love my long hair, or my symmetrical, nicely-shaped ears, or whatever. I can''t think of one person I know who has stayed the same exact size their entire life so far, and I also remind myself of that!

Body image is a very important thing to pay attention to, but as long as one doesn''t get completely down in the dumps about it, I think that those negative days we all have can be great motivators to say, hey! I need to do something about it, then!

I just got back from the gym. I was only able to urn 1.5 miles due to a terrible stomach cramp, but I did manage to get in some upper body weights & a few lower body weights.

We ate dinner right before we went to the gym, so I think that explains the cramps. We''ll have to try to either go before dinner or eat dinner earlier!

Keep up the good work everyone. And I agree - everyone here does have a very healthy attitude!

Good job Danielle! Aside from stomach cramps, at least you had a workout!
