Good morning ladies! I don''t have much to report today...I went for an abbreviated walk last night and did some arms with free weights during AI last night, but that''s it. I''m feeling a bit bummed about turning 29 today, lol! I feel like I''m still 25 in many ways, and when I picture a 29 year old, it doesn''t look like me in my head...that probably sounds strange, but there are just times when I don''t feel like a "grown-up!"

Hope everyone is doing well and still on the workout wagon today! Have a great one!

Happy Birthday Monarch!! I hope you have a wonderful day!

I''ve been AWOL the last few weeks. No working out but fairly decent eating. I want to get a routine back but since we got our puppy our world revolves around him. It doesn''t help that it rained here for the last 9 days- but hurray! Sunshine has finally returned to the Northeast (or least where I am). In fact, I think I''ll take a stroll during my lunch break to celebrate!

Have a great day, y''all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONARCH!!

I *wish* for 29 -- not that I''m "old" (I''m 32) but I love having that 2 in front! I know whatcha mean about not feeling "grown up" -- most of the time I feel like a kid trapped in my adult body, but then I do something or say something adultish and realize it''s true. Especially with my kids! But it''s iportant to stay young at heart -- next year you can embrace rather than dread thirty and see what I mean. There''s a tad bit of respect that comes with the 3''s

Anyway, we''ll see what today holds as far as workouts go. I''m still sore from the first trip to the gym!! (that was monday!) However, I ate better yesterday -- more aware of what/when/how much I''m eating so I hope that helps.

Hope you have a great day everyone - Monarch, I hope you have a terrific birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONARCH!

I PROMISE that you''ll have a blast in your 30''s. These are the best years of my life (I''m 35)

I''ve been MIA on working out these last couple of days. I was soooo excited late last week- I joined a gym near the office, and resolved to get my ass in gear. Well, I got hit with a last-minute biz trip, and I''ll be back home tomorrow.

At least my eating has been good!

Aw, thanks guys!!! You made me feel better!

I am just mourning the fact that this is the last year of my 20''s, I guess. I was wallowing in a little self pity this morning, lol!

It''s all good, though...I have snapped out of it.

It''s so nice to see all of you here today and to get an update on your physical fitness and well-being. I''m glad to hear you''re all doing well.

Sarfar, I bet you''re having so much fun with the new puppy and I imagine he''s keeping you pretty busy when he''s awake, so don''t worry too much about not working out as much as you would like. Soon you''ll be able to train him on a leash and take him for walks/runs to help him get out all that puppy energy! And at least you''re doing well with eating healthy--keep it up!

sk8rjen, thanks for the words of support. I don''t have children yet, and many of my friends the same age and even younger than me, do...I kind of feel a bit behind I suppose. Good job on staying aware of what you eat--that is always a step in the right direction!

Mara, how''s your arm? Careful with that kickboxing, girl, we don''t want to hear that your arm has fallen off tomorrow!

Are you still journaling what you eat, and how''s it going?

Chargergirl, congrats on joining the gym!!!

You will kick butt! Have a nice "biz" trip!

monarch, the arm has been feeling better slowly...i have been taking it easy but sometimes it still hurts, aka today. but when it hurts after i use it after kbox, it settles down to almost normal within 2 days, so it's much better than in the past. also my massage therapist told me that this muscle takes a really long time to heal (deltoid) so she said that it makes sense that it's taking a while but seems to VERY slowly be getting shades of better. what a pain though!!!

i am also still chronicling my eating...but the dinners the last few nites have been useless to try to write down because we bbq'd with friends on monday night (so i had lots of guac and margaritas) and last nite went out to one of my fave restaurants and had some fatty things and a banana beignets dessert..yum. hehe...but i'm still tracking my breakfast and lunches and we'll be back on track for dinner tonite with chicken and salad or fish and salad..havent' decided!

the interesting thing that i have found is that in the past i would eat something like a big salad for lunch or have a big sandwich. i was always worried about not eating enough and then snacking before dinner. however, now i am finding that i am able to eat less for lunch and have an apple as a snack and i am FINE til dinner. what an epiphany, seriously.

so like this is my typical weekday breakfast and lunch:
breakfast: coffee, sugar, 1% milk; 1/2c go lean cereal, 1/2 a banana and 1% milk: ~350 calories
lunch: 1/2 a bagel toasted with crunchy PB: ~270 calories

that is ~620 calories. so then i have an apple for a snack typically around 3pm or 4pm which is ~80 calories, so that is 700 up until ~7pm.

so this keeps me basically not FULL but satisfied till dinner 4 times out of 5. if i get hungry again i'll have a banana or a granola/kashi bar.

during the week our dinners are typically pretty good, but the positive about eating smaller items at lunch now and feeling okay is that if we DO go out for sushi or something for dinner then i don't feel like the whole day is shot because even if i eat like 1000 calories out at dinner with sushi, i'm still under 2000 which i what i have been focusing on (since from my calcs i was eating probably more like 2200-2300 a day before i started tracking). and then if we do a mellow meal at home like chicken/fish and salad, the calories are ~600-700ish so i am well under 2k calories.

anyway i don't want to ramble but i have been really happy so far with the tracking because if nothing else it keeps me more AWARE of what i am eating and how it affects me. i also found out that i don't HAVE to eat a big salad or big sandwich or full on honking meal for lunch and it's OKAY. i won't starve and i won't go hungry. i can make a conscious decision to splurge on dinner some days, BUT because i was good for breakfast and lunch it doesn't mean i 'blew' the day. if that makes sense.

ETA: that i went out with portia the other day and my neighbor who just got married a few weeks ago and has been busy so we haven't seen her asked if i had lost weight (!!) and that my arms looked more toned! i was like...SCORE. hehehee.

I''ve been so bad about posting. I started physical therapy last week, and he said that walking is one of the best things I can do for myself right now! So I''ve been getting in at least three miles a day (I think yesterday was more like 4.5 - yay!). What I''ve been really bad about, though, is actually doing the exercises. Walking just seems natural, since I''m completely used to devoting time to cardio every day. But I''m supposed to do the exercises 2-3x a day, and I usually just remember once. So... doing the exercises is my new goal.

I''m about to head out on a walk right now.

Mara, I have a stupid question. The only time that I''ve ever tracked calories was over a one day period for a high school biology class. When you do it, do you bring out measuring cups and food scales and stuff, and then look up how many calories are in the veggies that you''re putting in your dinner salad? Or do you try to keep mostly to prepackaged food, so it has all of that info on the side? I''d be interested in tracking how many calories I consume for a little bit, just to be more aware, but just don''t know how to start.

(I guess that part of my problem is that I''ve learned to cook from my mom, who rarely uses recipes. She usually just adds things until "it looks right." It''s harder to figure out how many calories you''re consuming if you don''t even know how much olive oil you sauteed the veggies in.)

yeah blen...we don''t really eat alot of ''prepackaged'' stuff, but yes for like when i make a tuna sandwich, the mayo, the tuna and the bread all have the nutritional info on it. same with a bagel and PB. same with milk, sugar, cereal etc. you can look up fruits and veggies online, www.calorieking.com is a good one i have been using. i eat pretty much the same stuff for breakfast almost every day (pretty boring i know), so i already have measured out teaspoons of sugar and the milk. so i only did that one. i measured my cereal too because i was curious how much a 3/4 cup was (the high fiber cereal...honestly i can only eat 1/2c because its SO fibery!!!).

but yes when it comes to things like making dinner, it can be more complicated because i have to watch what i put in. but we tend to make simple stuff...aka grilled chicken kebabs are just chicken breast and this marinade i get from whole foods (so good and just 10 calories and a little sugar); and if we do a salad i can estimate what''s in there...aka salad; cranberries; walnuts and vinaigrette. i know sometimes i am just estimating aka the vinaigrette but at least i know i am ''close'' and i tend to tack on a little padding just in case, aka an extra 50 calories just to be sure i''m covering the estimate right. i also have alot of cooking light recipes which come with the calories and nutrition already laid out if you just follow the recipe.

but yeah there are sometimes when i can''t really estimate and it''s not worth it to kill myself to see what i ate and break it all down. but for the most part because i tend to eat a few things for breakfast consistently, and also have 4-5 things for lunch that i eat and interchange...and then for dinner at home we also have the same 4-5 mix and match kinda things (on the grill typically)...then i can keep an idea going. also i think if you measure out a tbl of olive oil you''d be surprised at how much or how little it is. and then in the future, you can eyeball without having to measure because you are more ''aware'' of what you put in. if that makes sense!

Just got back from a brisk 70 minute walk.

Thanks, Mara, it sounds a lot easier when you break it down that way. I''m also one who eats practically the same thing for breakfast every day, so I could go ahead and measure out everything I need for that.

I currently live in a small town that just has a Kroger and a Walmart, and I feel like I''m always having problems getting fresh produce and interesting marinades and a lot of stuff like that. I can''t wait until I move -- I know that there''s a Whole Foods and a Trader Joe''s near where I''m going to live.

Happy belated birthday! I went to the gym and walked the dog yesterday (it was my first day on weightwatchers so had lots of enthusiasm).

No one started the Thurs thread today but I''m too lazy to do it..

I just wanted to post this recipe that we made last nite for Yogurt Dijon Grilled Chicken, here is the link to my thread over in FHH with all the details. 5 minutes to prep, 3-4 hours to marinate, and then 10 minutes on the grill. Paired with a veggie from Whole Foods. It was YUMMY and best of all it was low-fat and low-cal and very flavorful! Enjoy.

Hey girls,
I know its Thursday but I wanted to know if I can join the workout thread! Last week DH and I signed up at the gym and I have 6 personal training sessions as part of the package to help me hone my form, etc.

We both gained weight after the wedding and the move and have been so lazy with working out and being healthy. We want to have a baby soon so I want to get in tip top shape before trying, so my goal is 15 lbs or so by August. Im on reduced calorie diet plan and will be working out 5-6 days/week.

The diet part is the hardest, although I should be a pro--Ive lost and gained the same 15 lbs for years

I dont want to risk my health by this yo-yo thing anymore, so we are very committed to the lifestyle change and I am glad there is a thread like this on PS to help encourage and motivate!

My plan is cardio 5x/week for 30 min to start, yoga 2x/week, weight training 4x/week, and weekend bike rides with DH. Hopefully as time goes on I can share my successes with y''all!

welcome punchie. your entrance fee is....NEW PICTURES OF MOLLY!!

PNP, good to hear from you! I will totally post the workout thread tomorrow morning...I had a horrendously busy day at work and wasn''t able to today, so sorry! Looking forward to a great Friday workout thread!

Heather

I kept meaning to start today''s workout thread but kept forgetting. But, I had a session of physical therapy today. He had me on a recumbant stairmaster thing for 10 minutes, and then we did a couple new exercises. They''re getting harder. This afternoon, I went on a 65 minute, hilly, very pretty walk in the woods.
