Last night, J sent me an e-mail asking me when he should take his week off during the summer. What really sucks is that I have no idea what my summer is going to be like. I''ve been sending resumes for summer jobs/internships since February, but so far have gotten only one response saying "thank you for your interest, we''ll keep your resume for a period of 12 months". Bleh. Last summer I was very lucky and got two well-paid 35 hours/week contratcs in my field of study, one for five weeks and one for eight, but I might not be this lucky this year... And for all I know I could end up flipping burgers all summer on a hectic schedule...
So at lunch time I was looking at stones while winding down before class, and I sent him an e-mail saying I have no idea when it''s best for him to take his week off because I have no idea what summer has in store for me. I also showed him a stone I liked that is cheaper than the other one I''ve been looking at and would fit his budget much better.
Here''s a translated exerpt of the conversation we just had...
J: Won''t you be taking some time off before or after working?
Me: Before I''ll probably be still job-hunting like mad, and after... it''ll depend if I have a contract with specific date, or if I''ve worked enough weeks in my summer... I dunno. Sorry.
J: No problem, I just didn''t know if you had anything planned. And I''m wondering what I''ll do with my summer this year.
Me: No, I don''t have plans... I don''t even know if I''ll be able to go to Navo Scotia with my grandmother. We might have to go on Study Break next Fall, if I have one. (My grandmother wants to take me on a one-week trip to Nova Scotia next summer, by train. I''m really excited to go and spend some quality time with my grandma, but I have no idea what''ll happen!)
J: Ack, that sucks. I had something else in mind, but it''s fine.
Me: Huh? (I was truly, genuinely clueless)
J: Well, I can''t talk, but you don''t know when I''m going to ask you for your hand yet, don''t you? (I think it''s so cute how he says he''s going to "ask me for my hand" (me demander ma main) instead of saying he''s going to propose (me demander en mariage)... He''s really the sweetest thing)
Me: OH.
I see. Eeek, I hate not knowing what to tell you...
J: It''s ok. I''ll find something.
Me: I''m sure there''ll be a weekend something we''ll be able to take...
J: Yeah, we''ll see.
YAY!!! He''s going to propose THIS SUMMER!!! I am so excited... WOOHOO!!
I have no idea where the ring/budget stands right now, but at the moment I''m feeling very zen about it. We might go shopping when I get back home, we might not. *shrugs* The frenzy might come back once I''m done with school, we''ll see! But right now I''m just really excited to know he''ll propose withing the next five months! FIVE MONTHS! SQUEE!!
Meanwhile, if anyone has any tips about summer job hunting, they would be very muchly appreciated...
