Hello all,

I thought I would post the latest CAD I received from David Klass. It is supposed to be a sort of retro reproduction.

My main concern is the flatness of the emerald cut diamonds, and small round diamonds.

Id love to get any feedback :)DK 75058-QUAD-17.JPG

Not quite sure what you're asking...about the flatness of the emerald cuts and small rounds.

They look like they are angled from your cads...are you thinking they need to be more angled?

Do you want to post the original picture or do you not want it like the original?

Edit...never mind about the original...I see it has rounds in the center and not emeralds.

I guess what Im asking is should the emerald cut diamonds and round diamonds follow the shape of the inner circle a little more. hopefully this makes sense.

Well, I think it may look better if they are more angled but let's see if we can get @Karl_K to comment on how Emerald cuts
look when they are set more at a tilt. If they are not going to look good that way then I would not tilt them more.

@Karl_K can you comment on viewing emerald cuts more at a tilt?

not at my computer to study the images but ECs should be mounted table parallel to the finger not tilted.

Long ago I had a ring with baguettes. They of course were flat like emerald cuts and they staggered down both sides of the center sort of like steps. Still flat but cascaded down and were decreasing in size. Your emerald cuts seem to be the same size so that probably wouldn’t work for you. Maybe if the side pieces were lower, the curve of the emeralds would seem a bit more exaggerated?

for me, that would be too straight across the finger and I'd want more of a curve, but as others have said, that may not work with step cuts. Unfortunately, I don't really have any suggestions if you want to keep the style with the ECs. Before I moved forward though, I'd definitely ask for a wax/plastic model so you can see what the ring would look like on your finger. That should tell you a lot.

I just happened across this listing and it has similar design elements to the ring you are creating. I thought I would post it in case it helps you in any way.

Here's another one similar to what you've got going on...

These are helpful! Would you all say that these stones are set with the table parallel to the finger?

David Just returned this CAD, and I like it much more!Screen Shot 2023-08-22 at 12.17.11 PM.png

I would say "yes" for the one I posted...you can see a side view if you click on the link. It looks like the center emerald cut in
the ring I posted is a little wonky.

Do you have the emerald cuts at home with you or does DK have them?

Edit...from just looking at the CADs I prefer the more curved view...its not a big difference though.

I do not have the emerald cuts with me - DK has them in Los Angeles.

I also like the more curved view.

I still think you really need a wax/plastic model to see if the ring works on your finger. DK will do that and I think it would be wise choice.

I like the second CAD more but still unsure about the sides of the ring. Can they be lower or is that the way you want the ring to be?

One thing with tank/saddle rings
IMO
Is where they flare out feels so different on where it lies to adjacent finger

I think the flatness of the original also goes with the style of the time.

Also, didn't @Karl_K say the EC's should be parallel. While I like the shape of the slightly rounded ring, aren't the EC's angled now? What about, as there are 3 of them keeping it straight, but having the center one slightly raised, but not curved?

As an EC is tilted the virtual facets flash on and off.
The problem with mounting them at an angle is you are likely to get a pattern that is not as ordered as face up.
A well cut EC has pretty patterns face up with awesome flashes as its rotated. Mounting them at a random angle could or could not work out.
To do it right stones would need to be selected to suit the angle or more square well cut stones used and even those are not guaranteed.

Thank you for the response!

Does this mean that the more an emerald cut is angled the more un ordered they look?

Yes. this is a reproduction of my grandmothers engagement ring - as I remember it.

It is true of any diamond cut but an EC does everything big.
Many cuts like an ideal cut RB are predictable in how they look tilted not so much with an EC they vary one to another much more.
