There is a lot of discussion on Pricescope and other boards about Tiffany DBTY and the relative advantages/disadvantages of DBTY by Tiff's, Whiteflash, Brian Gavin Diamonds, Blue Nile, etc. However, no one has ever mentioned the De Beers version....I've just bought it (it will be here tomorrow) and I think it's time this option was brought to light, for all DBTY lovers!
De beers only carries one version: it's white gold, with three stones. Unusually, the two stones at either side are pears, while the centre stone is round. They are all bezels. The chain is shorter than usual at 15.7 inches. For De Beers, I think it's a pretty good price. The one I'm getting, picked out of the Florida De Beers store, is a CTW of .22, all stones are ideal cut, excellent symmetry and polish, VS1, and color G or higher. It's $1,150 including tax. Compare this to the Tiffany three stone, which is CTW 0.15, and costs $1600 including my state's sales tax. Admittedly, this is for the platinum version, but $450 is an awful lot more to pay for a platinum chain and 25% less diamond weight (0.15 Tiff's as opposed to 0.22 De Beers.) I do have the Tiffany platinum .21 CTW bracelet, which I love and which I got $455 cheaper than retail as it was pre-owned. (It came from a very old, reputable jeweler which has been around since the 1800s in my home city, so I know it's real.) I do think Tiffany diamonds sparkle tremendously, but I just felt I couldn't justify the price for .15 CTW. In comparison, I think that the De Beers one is a good choice and I'm quite tickled that not many people have a De Beers DBTY! Due to the pear diamonds, it's a little different from other DBTY.
