Last minute purchase at the gem show...

It's 18k (marked 750) and pave setting with about 1/2 carat of diamonds. Tests fine. I was told that the colored stones were ruby, sapphire and likely emerald. I later showed it to another jeweler - who said he wasn't sure about the green stones but the others looked as advertised. Thoughts?

The ring weighs just under 9 grams. When she said the price was $600, I bought it without a second thought....no negotiation. Plus it was my size, so it was meant to be, right? She said the price was lower than her other jewelry because she got it for a deal at an estate sale. Total impulse buy on my part...seemed like a good price but I'm trying to learn from my mistakes (and wins) here.

I know this is nothing compared to the beautiful large rings many have here. But it was different than the other rings I owned and sometimes I prefer not to wear my solitaires. I am now in exile from anyplace that sells jewelry for the next few months :hand: Maybe if I can extend my exile for a year or two - I can save for a real statement piece

This is why I avoided gem shows for the last 3+ years. I always seem to find a way to part with my money. ;(

$600 isn't bad for that, but I think if you're on a budget for your new mahenge ring to be, you may want to avoid jewelry shows, pictures, the interenet, and all that "evil" stuff that makes us want to take out our wallets. Lately, I've been very very good. :halo: despite looking at all the beautiful gems and jewelry on Pricescope.

Wise words TL and kindly put...thank you. It's bad enough where a couple of my vendors just let me wear their jewelry while I peruse the gem show knowing there is a good chance I won't be able to resist  Plus I have a bad habit of wanting to buy from people when they go out of their way for me. I guess the only positive is that I do wear most of it.

Admittedly, I have been on a run the past year since I paid the last college tuition bill. I already regret a few of my earlier purchases (not because they aren't pretty, just because I paid too much and didn't research enough) and wish I had the money for one really unique purchase.

(After mt first couple of weeks here, I try to avoid most threads here because I know if I open... :hand: I know that doesn't make me seem very interested in being part of the community at large...and if I seem self-centered, I apologize). I am already lusting after all the blue/purple spinels and sapphires :wall:

A deal is only a deal if you love it (and the gotta have it feeling remains strong). With impulse purchases that I know I do not need, I step away from the website for a day. If I cannot stop thinking about it all night long and it is still there the next day, then I will purchase it. Having that extra 8 hours of thinking helps repress the impulse buying and if someone else buys it in the meantime, it makes it easier for my wallet and mind. Congrats on your new ring.

LOL, you have no idea how much I try to talk myself out of certain stones, and find anything/everything possibly wrong with them to talk myself out of them. Jewelry is another thing, you can always have some diamond/gold ring reproduced, but a certain stone, if it sticks with you, it can drive you mentally crazy. There should be a ten step plan for gemstone addiction. ;(

Can you please come up with such a plan? I'll definitely be one of the first to enroll. I've had my eye on one particular stone for about 5 years...and it's still for sale. Ugh! :wall:

Well, if it hasn't been snatched up right away, and has been sitting around for FIVE WHOLE YEARS, then maybe there is something wrong with it. ;))

Hope that helps.
