Deciding between two 3.5 cushion cuts!

Hi everyone! I need some help deciding between these two 3.5 cushion cuts ( E, VVS2) and a perfect square ( F, VS1). The E, VVS 2 is more expensive, however, not by a significant price difference. The E, VVS is also more elongated so my thoughts were to set it east to west. Would it look odd if I were to set it this way?

I love the proportionality and rounded edges of the VS1... I also think it shines a bit brighter.

In this photo below VS1 is on the ring finger and VVS2 is on middle finger.

Hi @pinkrose7! I prefer the look of the F VS1. It looks lovely on your hand. The E seems to have leakage (dark areas) in the center.

You said you "love the proportions" and "it shines brighter". Choose what pleases your eyes and heart.

Thank you! It’s so hard both are beautiful. I like that the VS1 has softer/rounded edges.

The VVS2 seems to be more transparent, bigger table.. I’m also trying to go with less of a crushed iced look ( they’re both modified cushion brilliants). I think this one may be more brilliant. Although, I am not certain.

I also prefer the F VS1! The E VVS2 looks darker to me and there might be some light leakage in the center as mentioned by @pinkrose7

I like the F VS1 more.

Thanks for your input! I thought so too, but couldn’t tell. My partner said it may have been the indoor light in the store that made it look like that but I am not sure.

When you're shopping, be sure to look at the diamonds in as many different types of light as you can....by a window, in a dark corner of the store, etc. Rock them slowly in different directions. Take note of the white light, colored light, and dark areas you are seeing. Cushions are harder to judge than MRBS, so take your time. You can also check out videos on YouTube. Jon from Distinctive Gem and Good Old Gold have very good information that may help you know what to look for. Jon has some beautiful cushions on his site as well.

Edited to add that you should look at cushion brilliants as well as cushion
modified brilliants. I believe the modified cushions are more of a crushed ice look. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Hope that helps.

I second what @Diamond Girl 21 said about seeing the stone in as many different types of light as possible! If the jeweler is able to provide ASET images of the stones, that will also help identify which one offers better light return.

Thank you for this. I was told modified cushions are a hybrid so some have more of a crushed look. I would love a cushion brilliant but most jewelers told me it will be difficult to find because of my requirements and how rare they are.

One more vote for the VS1. Love the shape and it looks great in your finger!

I like the F, VS1 as well. Love the shape and the overall appearance of the diamond!
