Rose cuts are very spready for their carat weight: the cut is such that the bottom is completely flat, while the top is a dome with triangular facets. Basically, it is all crown and no pavilion.

I personally LOVE rose cuts. The old ones are my favorites. I would love a ''diamond by the yard'' type necklace with them.
