My lovely Jeweler has hundreds if not thousands of waxes from which to choose from in terms of ring settings created by him and his father before him over the last five decades or so. He at first was going to pull a dozen or so of them that he thought I might like. Then he put the brakes on things and told me he was working on a "master work" lol, and wanted to hand carve something in wax for me and do an entirely new setting for my beautiful zircon. I was both surprised and very pleased. My only reservation was that he said I couldn't see the finished wax until he was done with it. I went by today and got to see it for the first time. I'm attaching pics below. He does not use CAD.
Please give me your honest and thoughtful insight about the setting. I tend to like more antique style settings and am not afraid of bling. My engagement ring is a large oval sapphire in a halo with diamonds down the shank as well. The zircon will be worn on my other hand and is a 40th birthday present from my hubby (eeek! Next week!)
Please tell me both what you like and what you dislike about the setting. What he has created has no additional stones other than the Zircon and the two 40 point old European cut diamonds on either side of it. All of the metal work is filigree and will be in white gold.
I have already asked him to make the frame around the stones follow the shape of the cushion a little bit more. Do you think it needs more than just filigree? Should I think about additional stones in the frame or on the shoulders? The filigree work is very delicate and I think would likely need to be scrapped if I were to add stones. The cushion will be held by two prongs with pointed tips at each corner. Here's the link to my previous thread that shows the zircon and the side stones as well.
