Okay... so I''m listing the *sniff* Christos Mikado Silk Box Pleat gown I have ( let me have this second to grieve... I love Mikado Silk... ) on Sunday. AND SO... I went on ebay to price research... and started looking at possible gowns for the destination wedding (that I am going to kill DF over-- or maim him-- I haven''t decided yet).

SO here is my question. White seems so much more tropical than Ivory. AND the only thing I didn''t like about the Christos was that it was Ivory silk... instead of ''silk white''. I look better in White... but... at the prices I''m looking at... silk doesn''t seem to be in the cards. So.. it''s going to be WHITE WHITE cause it''s synthetic unless I get a great deal. Do these look glaringly white in the photos? HMM... forgot about Diamond white... will have to remember to ask vendors.

AND... there is a lovely dress on there by a designer I ADORE whose gowns look great on me... it IS silk... and the price is good. The style is perfect for a destination wedding. But the bloody thing is Ivory. REALLY Ivory... not like mine that''s a nice light ivory. If my dress were a diamond it would be a K... this sucker is an N. BUT it''s from a buyer with 0 feedback-- which is breaking my own rules... big time!

AND there are two other gowns... one by a lovely highend designer... but it''s dirty. It too is silk. And the price is really great. BUT it''s an A-line with a train. And a sash. A long sash. Too fancy for a destination wedding? (freaking dress is also Ivory... but it''s a J-K just warm). But otherwise it''s a very plain dress.

THEN... there is yet another gown... mid range designer... but the style is the most flattering style for my figure and it''s lovely. But it has a longer train than the last. Dress isn''t silk. It''s white.

FINALLY-- There is a dress by a designer who also mid range. It''s a strapless empire waisted... has a little tiny train and is very simple. These dresses look fabulous on me when I am 15 pounds lighter... actually I wore a dress similar to it to my uncles wedding and looked prego in the photos... NEVERMIND. Plus the price was twice what I want to spend and it isn''t silk!

OKAY... so this has helped. NOT getting the N colored dress... cause of my vendor policy. Not getting the empire waist cause I look prego.

And the only gowns I like are all with trains... Chapel trains. Is this just ridiculous for a wedding in the BVI? I think I''m leaning HEAVILY toward the white (will have to ask if it''s diamond white) with the flattering cut-- but the highend silk J-K is still in the running... just because of the designer, honestly... and the silk... and sashes are pretty too.

Thoughts? This is ''the'' dress... but I''ve already bought ''the dress'' and am now auctioning the thing off on Sunday... so really lost some of the whole charm of it for me. I want to look GREAT. But I also don''t want to spend more than my budget. Which is a miserly one. And I''m definitely ebaying the gown... so waiting for the exact perfect gown isn''t smart... you gotta get them while they are hot. And these two are HOT.

Gypsy, I couldn''t find a post that said exactly wherre your wedding will be. If it''s on a beach then I think the practical implications of dragging a train through the sand gives you your answer on that one. If the ceremony is in a building or on a deck or somewhere with a solid floor then I think a small train is lovely and appropriate.

We''re getting married on a cruise ship and I chose ivory for my dress because I''m very fair and the ivory seemed to warm up my skin. I never thought about wearing white just because it''s tropical, although if you look best in white I think a pearl or diamond white would work.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

We are getting married at Peter Island if I have anything to say about it. FI is another story. But he''s coming around to the Peter Island-- just us and our mothers and everyone else is gravy way of thinking. As for where... not right on the beach. They have some lovely areas... so okay with the train then... hmm.

So the white dress that isn't silk is your front runner? I know you've limited your search to ebay, but if I can, perhaps I can be of some help? What are your criteria?

Oh I'm a terrier on ebay. And your offer is so wonderful, but it's so much to convey. And most of it is just... subjective.

First, is the seller has to have 99.9 percent or better with more than 25 feedback at LEAST.

Second, I prefer designer gowns. The silk one above is 4500 dollar gown. Charity donation, store sample. But I've got a long list of acceptable designers... and a mental No list of other designers... which is too long to state. PLUS there is gown styles. So... Ebree... lol. I am afraid that it would just be a huge headache for you. THANK YOU!

AND the two gowns above are from solid sellers with a pipeline to more gowns... and I've asked them to look among their stock for gowns that might work for me... gave them my measurements and what I'd looking for (as well as I could... because again... it's so much subjective) ... so we'll see if they find any gems in there for me.

This is the silk gown...

Wearkstatt... YUM. But I'm not sure how flattering it would be for my figure and I'm not in LOVE with it... just with the designer and the silk.

I've tried on a few Essense of Australia gowns... and thought the quality was good for the price. In terms of style... this is what I am looking for.

Satin pretty slim line with a little detail.

Empire waist only because the fabic is chiffon. Looks like a David's bridal gown I saw once though. I'd pay 70 bucks for it.

This one is georgette and has a flattering wrap style waist.

Charmeuse with a sexy side drap... although I'm still not sure about that embroidery... would prefer it plain.

Hi, I''m having a destination wedding too, and it''s hard to find something that''s A. packable and B. suits the venue. If your biggest reservations involve gowns with trains, you can always have the train shortened or removed, especially if you get a deal on the gown. You may also want to poke through preownedweddinggowns.com you can find nice simple dresses for a few hundred dollars. Good luck!
