We finally booked our wedding. We're getting married at the Sandals resort in Negril, Jamaica!
I've heard both good and bad things about Jamaica and this resort, but I think I'll be okay. It's not like I have anything to compare it to!
We had been searching for someplace to go, and everything was sold out left and right.

My cousin is actually getting married there on the same week, and bless her little heart, it was her idea that we book at the same resort so we can go to eachother's weddings...which I think is awesome! But at the same time, we promised to give eachother our space.

She'll be getting married two days before me....so I'll get to see how everything goes down, which has it's pros and cons...but should be exciting nonetheless!

Here are the things I'm worried about:

1) Making it our own. I'm really hoping that we can somehow make it so that our wedding doesn't seem identical to my cousins.
2) Not sure what I'm supposed to do...do I send an invitation to everyone anyway, knowing that they aren't coming? Do I send an "announcement" or something? How do I make this fun? Or formal? AHHHH!

Anyway, overall I'm pretty exicted. IT's LESS THAN FIVE MONTHS AWAY!!!!!!!

P.S. Word to the wise....don't put non-refundable deposits down on vendors and have your bridesmaids buy their dresses just so you up and change plans on them. It ends up being a pretty CO$TLY mistake!

Ah how exciting for you! I''m sure it will turn out just lovely.

Congrats luckystar!

I am also in the process of planning a DW, and it''s harder than I thought. It seems that picking out the location is the most difficult, and everything else seems to fall into place. I came across this great reference for brides planning a DW, not sure if you know about it:

lucky, congratulations! If you are worried about making your wedding "your own" just make sure you do things that make you happy. Throw caution and tradition to the wind if you want. This thread talks about what little thing people did and/or doing to make their wedding "theirs"

To answer your question about invites. Send them to whomever you would like. Let your guest figure out if they can make it or not.

Hooray! I''m so thrilled that you got this all figured out, Lucky.

Hi luckystar

My sister is going there in the beginning of March to renew her wedding vows! She has never been to the caribbean or to an all-inclusive, so I''ll give you the full report on it when she returns (that is, if you would like it).

Yay! I''m so excited for you

Congrats on booking your wedding! Can''t believe it''s so soon-how exciting!!

How wonderful! We are going to Sandals in the Bahamas for our honeymoon in July. I hear the one in Jamiaca is great, actually!

I say send invitations to everyone you would like to attend. If they''ve already told you they can''t make it, they could still change their mind. Once they see the invitation, they may have a change of heart and start saving!

Hi Lucky!

Congratulations on booking your DW! It''s great that you and your cousin will get to attend each other''s weddings. Best wishes!

Thanks everyone!

I think I''m going to do an "announcement" box sort of like Harleighs...except it won''t be an invitation. I loved the idea and hope that I can do something just as cool. I''ve been looking around and so far I''ve bought (via ebay) 20 miniature maracas and 20 jamaican flag patches. I think I''m going to burn a cd to include in it with some bob marley songs...maybe have the insert of the CD be the actual announcement. I''m also thinking about adding maybe a pina colada scented candle or a coconut flavored lollipop or something. How does that sound?

Indypitty...I''ve seen that site! I go there all the time. The only thing that bothers me about it is that practically no one there is getting married at a sandals. But I did see a scary post about how much the upgrades cost. yikes! I might have a florist do a fake silk bouquet for me instead of going with the free daisies or paying $250 for a different type of flower.

GTN...thanks for the link...it was pretty helpful!

Shimmer...definitely fill me in. I feel so lost right now!

Everyone else..thanks for the warm wishes! I''m starting to get excited. I should really be studying right now but instead I''m browsing ebay for stuff to put in the boxes. haha.

Yay! Congrats!

We had a DW and sent these cute announcements of a bride and groom on a tropical beach out to everyone we would have invited to a more traditional wedding. They were quite popular! And I just wanted an excuse to order fancy paper bits!

Congratulations on booking your wedding!! Before my FI and I decided to "elope" and honeymoon in Europe, we were looking into book at Sandals Grande Ocho Rios.

I''m not sure what kind of advice I can give about personalizing your wedding from your cousin''s. I think that you should do whatever makes you happy. Good luck!
