Diamond and Sapphire Pendant ideas

I had a pendant made recently with a round center diamond and eight pink sapphires surrounding it....sort of in a daisy shape. I don''t at all like the way it came out. There''s a lot of metal showing and I want to have it re-done. Any suggestions at all on how to set a .33 carat diamond and eight slightly smaller pink sapphires? At this point, I don''t have any particular style in mind.

Also, is it usual for the jeweler to show one a proto-type or a mock-up of a piece for approval before making the final setting? Just curious, as this jeweler didn''t and it came to me afterwards that maybe that would have saved me some disappoinment.

I''ve learned the hard way you should ask to see what they are doing every step of the way. My husband has offered to draw up anything I want in Photo Shop so I won''t be stuck with some ugly, ugly jewelry so maybe you could do something like that. Good luck with finding a new design. The really ugly ring I had made I complained about it and while the jeweler wasn''t happy he at least remade it for me at no additional charge. Of course I eventually had another jeweler do more work on it to get it to something I will actually wear.
