Hi All,

I had a question specific to online retailers - such as JamesAllen, Blue Nile, WF & B2C and sales tax collection.

I am located in CA, and was curious if anyone has experience or has picked up the ring from a FedEx location in another state such as Arizona/Oregon which does not charge sales tax.

For example, B2C doesn't charge sales tax to rings shipped to Oregon or Arizona, is it easy to just pick up from one of those states? Any downside in terms of returns or warranty issues down the line? Similarly, WF doesn't charge sales tax for Oregon, can you just ship and pick up from the Fedex location in that state?

Curious on personal experience as well if any of you have done that.

Brian Gavin is doing a promo where they
pay the sales tax this month.

Two different scenarios exist.

1. You live in X and buy/deliver in Y. Tax at X is 5%, but tax at Y is 4%. You paid tax at the point of delivery and was savvy in your purchase.

2. You live in X and ship to Y because Y doesn't auto-collect tax like X. Once you have the ring, your never report the purchase to X or Y and pay NO tax despite the fact X requires you report and entrusts you to obey the law. This is called tax evasion, illegal and not recommended for obvious reasons.

Moral dilemma aside, I am not sure it would void your warranty. If so, no one could ever move states.

A couple things to consider:

-Most vendors will only ship high ticket items to the billing address on your credit card.
-You are supposed to pay sales tax directly to your state if it isn't collected by a retailer.
