So, what''s a good size for a nice pair of earrings? 0.25 carat? 0.35 carat? The person I am trying to get this for is fairly petite. Wanted to get her an anniversary gift for Valentines.

Either .25c each or .35c is more than fine for a small woman for daily wear IMO. I wear .50c each but I don't wear them daily...and I'm taller...5'8".

You can do some great 'build your own' earrings online with some of the vendors usually for less than in a mall store AND much better quality...Hearts & Arrows earrings, SO Valentine's Day

Did a quick price search, and a pair of exceptionally cut .52ctw (.26c each) earrings something like F VS2 would be about $1400 and a pair of exceptionally cut .60ctw (.30c each) earrings something like E/F, VS/SI would also be around $1400. You may have to match as best you can in terms of color/clarity...but as long as color is the same or very close (e.g. E & F), clarity has more flexibility as long as it's eye clean. There were also some very nice G SI's .55ctw that were around $1100 if you are open suggestions. I would go G SI for earrings more readily than F VS or similar...better bang for your buck, G is still super white (I have a G and an H stone and G earrings) and since the earrings sit on your head, all people notice is that they are sparkly. No one asks about color on earrings!

Most people find that diamonds in the weight category that you have indicated is good size... Most of the diamonds that we sell for earrings fall within 0.25 - 0.40 carats each, a few people buy larger sizes... Robin wears 0.75 carat studs in each ear and they honestly look a bit big, but hey, we're in the biz

For some reason I've been stuck at 5mm and could not persuade myself to get bigger ones, one reason being that I wear these 24/7, weddings and celebrations included. All I change is color, starting with a blue default and going ruby red or emerald green every now and then. I guess anything around 5mm would make a nice pair of "correct" stud earrings, both elegant and playful. At least, this is the wisedom applied to my earring purchases - no norm here though.

Suggestion? A pair of 0.4cts would do very nicely, and a G-H/ SI1 sounds like a good buy for me, if these are not suposed to become some symbolic treasure.

Aside weight, do you have any other specs set?

Low inventory or not, there seem to be quite few to pick from. The most of my 10min search was spend matching depth, diameters and tables. The picks below describe nicely the color and size range I had in mind, keeping clarity a saver:

A D-SI; 0.6 tcw; H&A (One and Two )

And a larger G-SI, H&As from the search engine at GOG (in picture).

No idea if SI has too much "spice" for clarity... so here's a G-VS2, 0.8 tcw, right in the middle (One and Two )

Hi,

Earring size has more to do with the size of the girl's earlobes rather than her build. I'm petite and can easily get away with wearing 1 carat in each ear (lol), (not that I own any earrings this big, but believe me, I've tried this size on and was in love). . .

If she's got larger lobes, .35-.4 looks nice and if she has smaller lobes .25 and larger will still look good. The ones I own are .25 each and I never take them out. This is a comfortable size to sleep in and wearing everywhere, but I still long for some a bit bigger

I am getting addicted to looking at diamond specs all day and punching them into the HCA and AGA systems to see what they score. After doing all this hunting for the engagement ring, I have started looking for matching earrings because she doesn't have anything besides CZ earrings. I have been looking at .25-.50 ct diamonds on all the reputable vendor sites and have found some real treats. Gotta focus on the main engagement ring first though.

you may like to consider whether the other women in your social circle and her work colleagues wear diamond earrings and what sizes they wear. her age and where she lives also plays a part. all these shouldn't matter if you can afford it and want the best for her but sometimes, it can get quite uncomfortable & annoying to have people constantly glancing at your ears while pretending not to. especially if she prefers not to have so much attention on her, 0.25- 0.35ct each would be just nice

IMHO,..... I think you will find that anything in the .25 to .5 carat size/ear in a great cut will be fabulous. I got new ones for Christmas that are .87 carat total weight, great cut, and sparkle like mad!

Once you get to the earrings, there is nothing wrong with starting small. Small studs are just as nice as larger ones -- they just have a different look! I'm personally downsizing the earrings I wear and love the smaler, less obvious look. Don't fret -- there will always be time to upgrade them down the road! think of all those birthdays and anniversaries you will have to look forward to
