I got these 4mm grey spinel and wonder they can be side stones for my sapphire. They are cheaper than diamond and have a hint of blue hue… don’t have loose diamond on hand for comparison. Happy yon learn where u suggest to buy diamond side stone as well. Let me know your suggestion, thanks!

Wow, that’s a good look. I think the spinel will give you more coverage for the price than diamonds, but they are more prone to abrasion/chips than diamonds.

i think the grey really compliments the blue in a different way than diamond side stones would
and its a bonus you already have them on hand

I think the grey of the side stones do pull out the grey from the center stone, but if you’re okay with that /regardless of that, it does look cool!

If I could stretch to the diamonds I’d go the diamond route. If I specifically wanted to set the grey spinal as side stones, I’d probably do this (or maybe set it with a center stone I didn’t mind pulling grey from).

Good point, I wasn’t thinking about the grey tone and for example leslie’s center stone has a lighter color so grey doesn’t affect it much. Thx!

I will be looking at the spinel and diamond ring side by side tomorrow lol, hard pick but I like them to be some side stones eventually.

Be sure to examine the combination in a variety of lighting environments. The spinel sides may skew violet in warmer lighting.

I usually don’t source diamonds for side stones but have my jeweler do it. It’s easier for them to bring in a whole parcel to choose from. The exception is if you’re looking for unique cuts.

I think the grey spinels are unique and different but the question is whether that’s what you want versus the brightness and sparkle of diamonds.

Thank you all upstairs folks. Ordered 4mm side stones from ivyandrose and hope to set them in the beginning of next year ☺️

My ring is on its way, I am saving the pair of grey spinel to something light pink or yellow. Thank you everyone for the suggestions, will update hand picture once I have it .

Wow it looks very nice!

Yeah happy to receive it.
I feel after setting, I could see a tiny window face up. Previously I never notice it when putting the stone on my hand. Nothing noticeable when I put the ring on finger. Is that normal?
