Diamond upgrade ideas?

I approached the idea of upgrading my wedding set with my husband and the only possibility he was on board with was replacing the center stone (he didn't like the idea of a whole new set because it wouldn't be my "real" e-ring/wedding ring). The current diamond is a .6 ct D VS2 oval (in a size 5 ring). (It's really beautiful but I can never get good photos while I'm wearing it because I'm left-handed.)

I'm considering upgrading to either a rectangular AVC (~1.1 l/w ratio) or a heritage oval from Distinctive Gem. I don't think I could go much bigger than 1 ct in this setting, nor would I want to.

I really like my ring as is, but would also love an upgrade. Thoughts?

Can you post a side view?

I think it's a really pretty ring. Would you consider keeping your ring as is, and getting another diamond for your right hand? Your diamond is lovely.

Can you flip it the other way for a profile view? The band is obscuring the view. It’s a center beautiful stone and nice art, btw.

Oops! Here's a better view. The weird yellow splotch on the band is a reflection from my shirt, haha.

It looks like to me that a skilled jeweler could replace the head with another one to allow for a bigger center stone. It may cover more of the side stones though.

Exactly what I was thinking. That looks like a peg head that could be removed and a new peg head for a different cut could be set. There is a gap between the peg head setting and the side stones, so you might luke out and get a larger stone to fit!

Thanks! I had guessed the same thing about the head but don't want to cover the side stones. Size-wise, I think 1-1.25 ct is the biggest I would ever want anyway.

I absolutely love your ring the way it is but yes I think it could get a larger diamond.

Fair warning....you have done the equivalent of walking into a crack house & asking a bunch of addicts if they think it's good to do some more crack. :lol-2:

Seriously though. Have you guys given thought to re-purposing the existing stones in a new setting and re-melting the existing setting so things "carry on" to a different set? Might be a good way to preserve it all while allowing you to upgrade.

I would keep your set as is, and look into getting another stone for your right hand or an alternate ring. Your ring and whole set is so pretty on you and it's clear you love it.

Yeah, that's where I've settled. I don't have the heart to dismantle my wedding set. I think my next project will be an AVC set in rose gold (my favorite metal) - I am absolutely loving the I - J "warm white" colors in that cut but love my brilliant icy white D for everyday wearing. I'd either set it as a pendant or a RHR, with the option to reset as a wedding set for a special anniversary.

I would repurpose the side stones for maybe petite stud earrings and get a different head for a bigger diamond. It is a beautiful set! Your wedding ring will basically work with a lot of different ering designs.

Edit: I just read your comment that you decided to keep your gorgeous set :) Do post here once you have decided on the rose gold project.
