Diamond upgrade question

So, a while back I picked this diamond (.708ct) for my wife after researching a ton at pricescope. I think it time to get her an upgrade to 1ct and have a tonne of questions

1. Is trading up a diamond a good thing in general. We bought the diamond from whiteflash and have been happy with it they have a lifetime upgrade policy and I was thinking of using that to upgrade her diamond to 1ct.

2. Is the size difference between .7 to 1ct noticeable? Or should I wait and go bigger later?

3. Now on to the diamonds, the one we have is:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2176280.htm#

and the 2 I am considering is:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3061804.htm#
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3092776.htm#

She's really happy with the quality of the current diamond are the above 2 comparable?

Also, similar size/quality princess diamonds seem much cheaper, does it make sense to switch from round to princess and get something more reasonable (and bigger)

Thanks!

Rounds will appear larger than same weight princess cuts and that is why princess cuts cost less. I would absolutely stick with rounds as long as she likes them better or equally. They are more classic and timeless, too.

Yes, a .70 to 1 ct will be visible. Upgrade policies are great and I have used them at WF to get larger diamond stud earrings!

Both diamonds are fabulous choices! Many people would say go with VS2 to save money, but with less than a $200 difference, I would grab that VS1!!! Often VS1 is more than that!

Hi OP, there is a substantial size difference going from .7 to 1.0 cts. I wonder if WF will need to change the head of her setting or start with a fresh setting to accommodate the larger stone, not knowing what setting you have. Regarding the upgrade policy, going through WF would likely be the most painless and straight forward. But depending on how long you've had the first stone, you might do better selling on your own since it's an ACA with high color and clarity. I've heard you need to be rather patient for this route and there may be low ball offers that are frustrating. To answer your other questions, if you stay with ACAs you should be pretty happy and is she wanting to change things up to a princess? If it's coming from her, then yeah, go for princess but I've heard you need to more careful about setting it properly to protect the fragile corners.

If you would prefer a larger or different diamond, it's absolutely a good thing to do to trade up if that is what you wish. WF have an excellent trade up policy to make trading in much easier, it just depends if they have a suitable replacement in mind, which it would appear they do.

2. Is the size difference between .7 to 1ct noticeable? Or should I wait and go bigger later? Yes, that will be a nice visual increase in size.

3. Now on to the diamonds, the one we have is:

She's really happy with the quality of the current diamond are the above 2 comparable? Both are very fine diamonds comparable to the one you propose to trade. It's a matter of preference which to choose.

Also, similar size/quality princess diamonds seem much cheaper, does it make sense to switch from round to princess and get something more reasonable (and bigger) My thoughts echo Diamondseeker's, a beautifully cut Princess is a joy to behold, but it depends on personal preference. Bear in mind more carat weight does not necessarily mean bigger or more of an impact on the finger.Look at the diameter measurements of each diamond to determine which faces up largest.

Thanks!

Hi Talky and welcome!

That's a nice jump in size you are considering, thoughts are above in colour.

Good thought above. When was the .71 diamond purchased?
