Hi everyone - hoping you guys can help with a DBTY project.

I've been looking through every dbty thread I can find on PS but I haven't seen any (yet) that shows different shaped diamonds, different sizes, and uneven placement. Meaning instead of every 2 or so inches, diamonds at 3" or 1.5 or 2.

Currently I have three loose stones for the project - a .24ct H&A round, a .50ct pear, and a true .20ct antique cushion.
I want it to be 20" and I'd like to add square stones, like emeralds and maybe even a princess in the kite position, and either another smaller pear, or a marquise.

I'm also thinking between 8 and 10 stones depending on how they're positioned. The largest will be the .50 pear, with the rest being between .30 and .40ct so all different sizes.

My questions are: Do you think it would look silly with so many different shapes and sizes? What about the spacing? I know the preferred is keeping it uniform with about 2" in-between stones.. but I absolutely adore the picture below and the stones are not evenly spaced out. Also, are the sizes too large? Should I just forget using the larger pear and keep everything more uniform in the .20-.25ct range?

It would also be worn with my .50 ct. and 1ct martini set pendants when I want more bling.

Any help, pics and ideas truly appreciated.

Have you checked out Jewels by Grace's website? Grace has a number of dbty necklaces with various shaped diamonds, though stone spacing does look even ... http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/jewelry/pendants-necklaces?p=2

For sure I think a randomly spaced dbty with different diamond shapes could/would be beautiful and versatile.

Have you tried cutting out in paper the diamond shapes you're thinking of, and taping them to a 20" piece of string, just to give you a clumsy rough approximation you can put around your neck?

I personally would not mix antique cuts and modern cuts, and I think the mixed look might work better if the stones were in the same size range. I think my stones are about 2 inches apart in my long necklace. I'll have to think about this a little more.

I love the different sizes of diamonds on this Tiffany DBTY necklace.

I think the stones are evenly spaced in the pic but the wrapping makes them look randomly spaced.

My dbty are spaced 1.5" apart towards the front.

I think the stones you have at that size could be a bit pokey. Just a heads up.

I think mixing shapes and sizes will be fine. For the intervals, try drawing it out and imagining how it will lay.

I second marymm. Have a look at JbG site for inspiration. She even has dangling stones included. I find the idea really feminin.

Maybe something like this to use your pear and cushion? and then the round diamond you have an some others for the rest?

Thanks for the responses, sorry I couldn't post sooner.

@rockysalamander - I had the same necklace made for my mom by WF (minus the gorgeous blue stone, diamond?) years ago..lol..

@marymm - The one you linked on Erica Graces' site is gorgeous. But I don't want the bezels to dangle. I want this dbty to be simple with more spacing because it's going to be worn with either 2, or 3 other diamond pendants (the ones in my avatar.)

The links were all very helpful, thank you guys for that. But I definitely want them larger than 2" apart, I won't have a stone in the very middle, and I won't be using my pear.

Was discussing how the weight of the stones affects how the necklace hangs with a jeweler this weekend. He said they should be as close to the same ct weight as possible otherwise it won't drape around the neck, but rather pull to one side. The reason I even brought it up was because of the thread that @Crystal_Dreams posted (thanks for that, I didn't realize what could happen.) So that was an eye opener.
The second thing is even if the weight on both sides of a 20" chain is the same, if more diamonds are sprinkled on one side, I may get the same lopsided look.

So now, I decided that I want all the stones to be in the .25 ct range and be places directly opposite each other at 3" intervals, with very small .05ct stones placed in between at different intervals. That should keep the necklace draped nicely without it pulling in any weird direction.

Still have to decide on the stones though but I'm thinking 2 rounds, 2 marquise, and 2 emeralds.

Also, can you guys please recommend a vendor who makes the thinnest possible bezel for a DBTY?
