Been shopping around for a 2ct white flash ACA , when I was looking in December last month in comparison to right now it seems like prices are way higher across the board !,, getting huge FOMO right now

I have been warning people who thought Covid would lead to reduced prices.
All sizes are going up and there are big shortages of nice diamonds.

Very handy graph.

Gary, is there an equivalent forecast graph?

Here is a short term one in C

That chart is on the home page and has been running for years.
If you can tell me what diamond prices will do we can get very rich!

Must not be in all sizes because the prices of the diamonds the size of my studs are pretty close to what they were 2 years ago.

I think it depends on size/shape. I have a friend who has been looking for a very sizeable stone for a while now and she said prices have gone down in the last year from what she’s been offered (she’s looking at 6ct+, cushion or princess).

Edit: I missed that you’re comparing Dec to Jan. She was comparing Dec 19 to Jan 21, but I guess at those sizes prices don’t move as quickly?

I know (in speaking with many vendors) that big beautiful antique diamonds are in short supply right now. As in very little inventory for the larger beautiful old cut diamonds. So not sure what that might do to price but my guess is it would raise prices for those diamonds that fit that category.

The pricescope charts are a really good baseline and trendline because the data is harvested from large numbers of actual diamonds for sale. However, it must be remembered that the diamond market is not a monolith. That is, the broad market is composed of a wide range of qualities and diamonds that may have very different turn rates. Many diamonds in the list, for instance, have not been subject to price increase as manufacturers and dealers have needed cash flow over profit during the Covid crisis.

If you look only at new production of premium quality goods, in light of the rough shortages brought on by the pandemic, you are looking at substantially larger relative increases.

Diamond shopping I guess really is like anything else your really have to search and jump on things when they come up

I had ordered 3 stones in early December and selected one & returned the other two. Out of curiosity, after reading your post I looked up the SKU#'s of the two I returned. They both are about $250 more now than when I purchased them last month! (These were all 1.31-1.38 carat, so possibly even bigger carats would see a more substantial increase?).
