Did you pick out your favorite colors in stones because of how it goes with your hair/eye coloring? Just wondering if this has influenced you as it has me. I do best in purples (blondish hair, green eyes) and love tanzanite & blue/purple sapphs. but reds don''t really work for me.

You?

I think that is true in a round-about way. I picked out colors that will work with the clothes that I wear most of the time. And the colors of those clothes are ones that work well with my coloring. I wear lots of browns, olives and navy clothes. So I like yellow, blue and red stones the best. I''m not much of a purple fan, but I do think tanzanite is beautiful!

Unfortunately I like all colors.........

I avoid blue and purple stones because of the colors I usually wear and my own coloring (redheaded/fair-skinned)- I''m drawn to reds, peaches, and yellows!

(I, too, love tanzanite, though!)

This is such an interesting question! My first inclination was to say no. But then when I read Fly Girl''s response, I had to agree! My hair and eyes are dark brown, so I certainly am not matching that. But I do mostly wear clothes that are black and "jewel tones" mostly...teal, royal blue, deep pink, and red....great sapphire (and ruby) colors!

not to match my hair, eyes, skin coloring or clothing i wear: it was the stone to speak to me.....and orange Orange ORANGE...in your face orange. a color i''ve never been particularly drawn to.

For me it''s the stone and if it speaks to me.

I''ve never really thought of coloured stones not going with things. My e-ring''s green and I can''t think of any colour that wouldn''t look good with.

I suppose a pink sapphire might not look great with red, but that''s about it.

It certainly doesn''t hurt that my eyes are blue, but that''s not really why I pick the colors I do. I''ve always been drawn to cool colors: blue, green, purple, gray, even pink and yellow. No oranges, red or browns though. I can pull off the oranges and reds but anything brown doesn''t suit me, even though my hair is a light brown.

I confess that I have picked out a stone because it matched my eyes though!!!

Interesting question. I''ve never thought about this this way but I''d bet savvier women have done so. For myself, there are certain colors I just adore--emerald green, that electric blue of the finest sapphire, and subtle slate-like blue-grays. Yes, I''m all about the cool colors. When I think about clothing, though, I actually look better in warmer colors so my tastes in stones definitely have nothing to do with what''s flattering.

Blue sapphires are my birthstone (Sept) and are also my favorite gemstone. Luckily for me, my favorite color just happens to be blue! I also have lighter colored blue stones, like aquamarine and topaz. Lately, I''ve been considering a garnet to go with some of my non-blue outfits. Typically, when I don''t wear blue to match my stones, I just wear plain silver.

Movie Zombie hit the nail on the head. A stone that speaks to you. In my case, it was the PADPARADSCHA Sapphire. Once I saw it, it screamed to me. LOL. I have been hooked ever since.

I''m very fair with blonde hair and blue eyes... I look best in jewel tones and they happen to be my favorite colors anyway... so I tend to love the blues, purples, reds, magentas, teals, emerald greens, etc. Now in gemstones, I love ''em all! I love gemstones in light greens and oranges and yellows... but if I had a peridot or orange sapphire, I would NOT match it to what I was wearing because I''m really not into the sickly color that appears on my face when I''m in those colors. If I wanted to wear the colors that do not look good on me, I use them as accents with their complementary color or with mixed colors (like wearing peridot jewelry with magenta clothes or orange sapphs with something that has mostly reds with a touch of orange).

hmmm...I have never thought of that so I guess not. I love blue stones but I don''t wear a lot of blue....maybe I should start.

Hmmm, let me think. I''m fair-skinned, green-eyed, and red-haired. I gasp in admiration at a lot of things, and I can''t go past the fact that diamonds go with everything. I do favor green stones - tourmaline, peridot, jade, bloodstone. With pearls, I prefer darker pearls, grey and black, to white. I also like moonstones, rubies, and garnets. I don''t hanker after shiny-bright yellow or blue stones, as a rule - even though I often wear yellow or blue tones. If I had to pick a blue stone to wear, I''d choose shifting opalescent labradorite.

So I guess the answer is: yes, my complexion affects the stones I go for.

Oddly enough, in my teenage fantasy-princess fantasies, I had blue eyes and a gold necklace set with a huge blue sapphire. I''ve never wanted a necklace like that in real life, nor have I ever bought blue-tinted contact lenses. But blue eyes and blue stones seem to go together to me, and tawny eyes and complexions I associate with gold and with every vivid stone in the rainbow.

I tend to like all colors. But I choose shades or tones of each color that suit me best - pale pink rather than hot pink, olive green rather than kelly green etc.

I think in a roundabout way, yes. I gravitate towards blue and pink stones, as those are the colors I wear most often (aside from neutrals). I have always been drawn to blue and pink, and I am fair with blonde hair and blue eyes.

I gravitate towards colorless or pale colored stones. My hair is almost black as are my eyes, but my skin is very fair. (I'm Scottish/Dutch/Korean) Pale colors speak to me above all. I don't think this has much to do with my coloring, though. Pale aquamarines, morganites, paler padparadschas(Linda's avatar

). I know the more saturated stones tend to have more value, but I love the pales.
