Well, even though we're still in the baby-step stages of planning, for the most part I've decided on our colors: Blue and Ivory. The general feel we're going with is below (since I haven't figured out how to attach a photo into the middle of a post.

I'm trying to think of cute seating ideas, and I figured that if I'm doing all the flowers in ivory (or white), I could choose 8-10 different kinds of flowers for the centerpieces and name the table after the flower in the middle. I'm sure this has been done, but it was a first in my mind!

So far, the flowers I have are: Tulips, Roses, Gerbers, Dahlias, Irises, Hydrangea, Gardenia, Orchids, and Lillies. Depending on the number of people, I might need a few more.

Do you think this would be difficult? Expensive? Not a good idea? I was thinking about either buying several different bouquets from different flower shops a couple of days before the wedding, but that leaves room for disaster.

I do have a back-up plan if this idea of mine turns out to be a bad one: either *just* blue hydrangeas (like in the photo below) or white tulips for the centerpieces. This would be equally as pretty, I think, so it won't break my heart if I learn the above way won't be easy. I can think of a different way to name the tables.

So, what do you guys think?

Those are my colors too, such a beautiful combination. I think it sounds like a great idea, and would be beautiful, but it might be a bit of a hassle. That''s a lot of different types of flowers, in relatively small numbers, as opposed to just getting a bunch of one or two types from a single florist.

My BEst Friend chose Blue and wine for her wedding. She used Hydrangea''s for her centerpeices along with wine calla lilies.. it was beautiful! I think they would be nice. I heard that the Hyd. are not good in Bouquets by in centerpeices they can look scrumptous.

I LOVE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks gorgeous- I''m sure you could pull it off!

Thanks for the replies! I think I''ll just look around at different online flower marts and see what I can do. I''ll keep my hydrangea/tulip centerpiece idea as a backup option, just in case!

EBree, I love it, and those colors make me want to change mine.

I also like the look of tulips, white tulips are just so classy. What are your centerpieces going to be shaped as? Long and tall, short and squat? Clear vases? Opaque?

The blue and ivory is gorgeous! While I think the different ivory flowers "sounds" like a great idea.... I think it would probably be pretty complicated to orchestrate. And since those hydrangea centerpieces are so beautiful... why not make it easier for yourself?

But then again, I''m not even doing real flowers for my wedding (opting for porcelain)... so what do I know?

Anything you do is going to be lovely... that''s a given!

I think it sounds lovely Ebree. That "inpiration" photo is gorgeous. I also like your one kind of flower per table idea. Will actually notice this , do you think? Will there be a table of name cards with their table flower on it?

That is just the prettiest blue too, in the hydrangeas! Make sure you don''t get the turquoisey blue if that''s not what you''re wanting.

I haven't decided yet...I'm thinking they'll be round, since our cake will be round. Short and squatty vases are kind of cute, and probably clear, unless I can find some really cheap light blue ceramic vases (like the ones in the picture Lovelylulu posted in an earlier thread, I LOVE those!). I'd like everything to flow, because I'm keeping it simple. The picture I posted above is far more lavish than what I'll be doing, but I just love the look.

LizzieC- I''m afraid it might be difficult too, but it all depends on what I can find at online flower marts. If I can order a bouquet of each, I might definitely try. I love the look of the hydrangeas, but the colors are so tricky (they could be bright blue, like sunkist said!), which is why I''m leaning a bit more towards the white tulips for the centerpieces. Then again, a brighter blue might not be so bad, but I love that cool blue.

Sunkist- I''ll definitely have the names of the flowers on the tables. I''d be worried about the hydrangea color too, but perhaps the online florist could specify if I called? Oh, I don''t know, it''s so early.

Ebree- how beautiful! I love the setting as is- no extra flowers! I do like the idea of different tables... maybe we can brainstorm other ideas? Like places you two have been? Or favorite songs? (Hee hee... I''m picturing a Crunked table!) Or favorite authors? Just some thoughts. I love the blue and ivory!!

I''m really glad you all like the color scheme! It makes me feel more confident about my choice. Yes, those hydrangeas are amazing...has anyone seen bluey-white hydrangeas before? If I could find those, perhaps all my flower problems would be solved!

p.s. My bouquet will hopefully be ivory peonies. I''m doing my own, so I hope I can find them in early May!

Check out this website! It seems as though they have everything! Has anyone heard good or bad reviews?

Hi EBree,

I posted in somebody else''s thread about the DIY flowers idea as I have worked in a flower shop for nearly six years. If u''re really set on doing your flowers yourself then I think that the hydrangea idea is def your best option as it is the most simple. They do indeed come in blue/white colours. The only thing that you need to be careful of is that you are not buying dyed flowers as they will stain your hands and often even your clothes and you don''t want to be working with those right before you wedding.

One of the other flowers that you mentioned were orchids. I don''t know quite where you live but I know in Canada each of those stems of hydrangea can be 8$ plus and they are really sensite to work with. You could do something really simple like three stems of white dendro orchids (which in canada are around $5 plus therefore a little cheaper) in a soft blue vase. I posted a sample pic to give you an idea but I don''t know if it will work. That being said I really do like the simplicity and elegance of the sample arrangement that u posted so its just another idea.

The other thing that u discussed was availabilty in terms of buying from a flower shop. You def want to talk to somebody before hand so that they can make sure that they order the flowers in advance. I know that a lot of online vendors are cheaper but I really don''t have any experience with them and the idea of ordering a product like flowers and having them shipped to you seems like too much stress. Also I know in flower shops a lot of flowers are shipped "dry packed" which literally means that when they arrive they need to be treated with special flower food chemicals and hydrated properly to ensure that they stand up which you would not be albe to do at home.

Sorry for the long post!
Cheers,
Sparkel

Sparkel,

Thank you so much for the post! I love the picture you attached...orchids are something I'll absolutely consider. I'm also thinking about white irises. I've always loved irises.

I might shop around and get a few florist's prices, but so far, all I've heard from other brides are prices in the $1000s! I can't spend that much on flowers. What I might do is get price quotes from little Mom and Pop floral shops and if comparable (to some online outfits), that might be the way to go.

Hey Ebree,

I''m glad that some of that was helpful. The picture was not exactly what I wanted to show you but it gives you a general idea I know that a lot of ppl have flower quotes that are in the thousands but you should check out some shops because a florist should really be able to tailor something to fit whatever your budget is so it is for sure worth checking out. And just because you visit somebody does not necessarily mean that you have to go with them. But if you bring them your ideas often they have really great suggestions about creative ideas that will maximize your flower budget. If you do decide to go with a florist it will be one less thing that you have to worry about on your wedding day. The flowers just show up!

Ciao,
Sparkel

Sorry one other thing that I forgot. If u are going to make one flower "splurge" I would make it your bouquet b/c it''s going to be center stage in many of your wedding photos. You could likely shave a couple of dollars off the table centerpieces and not miss it but if you skimp on your bouquet your pictures won''t be as nice.
