Different types of rosegold

Hi everybody,

I need a specific shade of rose gold for a project. Problem is I’m located in Europe. So I can’t just give the jeweler in the US a sample of the rosegold I want. What would be the easiest and most efficient way of making sure that the jeweler in the US (David Klass or CVB for example) can recreate the rosegold I want? Would it help if I send them a smaller piece of jewelry in the right rosegold shade?

Thank you for your help!

I think you get the options they have available not they conform to your wants with respect to rose gold color. I could be wrong though.

I think you should find a jeweler local to you to work with.

Having (or getting) the exact alloy composition is really the only way to guarantee a match. For rose gold especially, how it wears (oxidizes) with time makes a huge difference IMO - some variants of rose gold can look shockingly different after a few months of wear. As @tyty333 mentioned I don't think most jewellers would be willing to have alloys specialty cast unless it's a pretty cost-intensive project...

I would go local - but the prong work in Europe is just so primal.

I think David Klass has access to a particularly good variety of gold alloys/colors; I believe that's been alluded to on here. If it's extremely important to get it exactly right you'll need to send an example piece or know the exact alloy you want, and @yssie 's point about alloys aging differently is also important. This is going to be a tricky thing to do perfectly...

So I have been in contact with cvb. And she wrote me:

“So I’ve been speaking with multiple high end casting companies (my caster refuses to cast in 18K & copper due to its brittle nature)…so far that’s the consensus with all

So I can do it but I won’t he able to guarantee it’s structural integrity on a shank

I can do 20RG which has a similar tone & we use often because it’s not a brittle combo”.

She also stated that unplated 18wg is not as tough as platinum.

We are talking about her Bianca style - so a half eternity.

@yssie I have the feeling you are an expert on alloys. I also remember reading a post from you how whitegold makes more sense for eternity bands. Could you maybe shine some light on cvbs statements?

I am getting ready to start a reset from platinum to rose gold, so this thread has my interest.

If you google 'Every jeweler I go to says rose gold is the weakest metal' and Reddit, you will come up with an interesting discussion. A few jewelers respond, and also there is a very technical explanation. I found it helpful.

I don't know about expert lol. But I do have opinions and share them freely

I have a band in Caysie's 20k peach gold and I love it. I can take some pics later tonight.

Re. Platinum vs. WG, it really depends on what you're trying to make.
This thread has a better explanation. For an eternity style with shared prongs choose WG. For something like the Bianca, where shape is maintained with a full basket surrounding each stone, I'd choose platinum.

Thank you!!! Is the peachgold your pearl eternity ring?

Yes! That’s the one!

Are you happy with the peachgold? Do you think a 20k shank will hold up in daily wear?

Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you @xxxxxx.

The pearl band is Caysie’s 20k peach gold, the more pink thinner plain band is 14k RG (I don’t know the alloy, I’m sorry - but all my 14k is about this colour!), and the wider yellower plain band is Tiffany 18k RG. IRL the 20k peach gold is in-between but leans closer to the 14k, to my eyes.

Your pictures are always so valuable! I’d wait weeks for them :) Thank you for compiling this comparison. And thank you for all of your posts on pricescope!

I find the Tiffany 18k RG looks like yellowgold in the pictures - probably it’s my screen. I went ahead a few days ago and just ordered the ring with Caysie in 14k RG. I’m excited to have cvb piece in my hands!

Tiffany’s 18k does look VERY yellow IRL too, to me! Reads as “warm yellow” rather than “pink”. My personal preference is for something with more overt pink - sounds like yours too ::)

Looking forward to seeing it done!! FWIW I’ve got pieces in 14k and 18k RG and I don’t worry about them… I think PSers are much more careful with our jewellery than the average consumer!! So warnings that might really be necessary for the average consumer, well, the risks are less dire with a more aware audience.

I actually prefer rose gold in 14k! It makes it a little softer and not so coppery. Caysie made my daughter's engagement ring in platinum and 14k rose gold and the color is so pretty!

Hi @yssie - do you know if CvB's 20k peach gold contains copper? Your eternity is magnificent.

Sorry to jack, but I'm looking for a wedding band for my partner. Reinstein Ross and Bell & Bird make good options but I'm casting a wide net, and newly concerned about copper content given that he'll wear it 24/7. Your piece makes me wonder if I should reach out to Caysie. I also emailed EWB.com per your suggestion in other threads.

Hi! I haven’t asked Caysie for an exact alloy breakdown but I’m sure it does have copper - I’ve not seen any other way to give gold that reddish tint. Is your other half allergic to copper? I think it’s a pretty rare allergy but not unheard of - if your partner has metal allergies maybe plain platinum or palladium is safest?

Both of these look very luxurious!

One more option I’ve had very good experiences buying bands from - on the inexpensive side of things - is The Silver Floret on Etsy. They have only specific karats and alloys (doesn’t include peach gold), but if you do end up choosing a different metal they’ll customize size and shape and their pricing is really good. I love e-weddingbands as well but you already know that
