For the Joker, you guessed wrong. I didn''t even buy Mrs. Joker an e-ring, just a plain gold wedding band. We celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary last November.

Joker....

Yes, I just did.

I am older and wiser now – and hence chose finer (and more rare) things now (Gal and Gems).

It seems from my observations that the second wife always gets nicer baubles.

With out a doubt the Gal !

I can say that websailor spent more money on my e-ring than his first wife''s because:

1 - he was a college student then
2 - he is more established in his career now

We also have nicer staterooms when we cruise too, he and his ex-wife
had inside cabins, while we always book at least a balcony cabin ... LOL

Probably depends on the situation and the person.

On one hand, the person may realize that the ering is just a symbolic gesture that he doesn''t need to spend crazy money on the ring. Or on the other hand, the person may be more financially stable now, and can afford and want to get a more expensive ring.

While there will certainly be exceptions, I would say that the vast majority of my second (and third) timers buy much bigger diamonds than my first time buyers. I think it has more to do with financial ability than anything else. My first time buyers are certainly as much in love as my second time buyers, just younger and getting started, so often not as financially able.

Even those who are financially able are buying for a younger woman, who often will prefer the smaller sized stone.

I think Wink is onto something...youth usually = poor.

Define youth? What age do you consider young?

When I was divorced at 27, I had a .75 carat center diamond. When I remarried, at 32, I got a 1.02 carat, which was just upgraded to a 2.19 carat center diamond. My 1.02 carat was larger than my husband''s first wife''s diamond.

On the other hand, my ex-husband bought his new (older) wife a smaller diamond than the .75 carat he had bought me. (And no, he didn''t pay me any alimony or pay me very much child support. He walked away from our marriage leaving me with all the bills.) Knowing her, I doubt she was one of those women who preferred smaller stones.
