Do most jewelers work in silver too?

I wear sterling silver on my right hand a lot. I have a silver rolling ring that I like to pair with a really cheap black onyx ring, but it looks great! I wear them together all the time and it only cost me about $20 for both of them including shipping. (I got them from the same ebay store.) What I was wondering---- I''d love to have several different solitaires to pair with the rolling ring. I love the look and it would be a much cheaper way to enjoy several different gems. I''d want to pick out the gemstones myself, and I can easily find cheap silver settings on ebay too. But I''ve never had something set in silver before. Is it likely that I''d be able to find a jeweler to do this? I have no idea if the ones I usually go to do silver or not.

It sounds like a great idea. Not all jewelers will work on silver though.

Call your jeweler and ask what it will cost to set a gem in a simple tiffany styled pronged sterling setting...they will need to know what size, shape and gemstone you want set...most jewelers will be able to set the stone in sterling...but some wont create the actual ring in sterling...keep in mind that the setting fee(the same for gold or silver) may be more then the actual cost of the stone or sterling setting..so finding the sterling solitaire ring w/gem already set may be much more affordable.

Thanks jewelerman. My local jeweler is charging me about $25 to set a loose stone in my LOGR setting. I do realize that would be more expensive than the sterling setting I would buy, but where can I find really NICE gemstones that are already set in silver? They don''t have to be really rare or expensive, but I''d like them to be cut nicely, be eye-clean, and have a nice color. Most stones I see in stores have big windows in them and are just not very pretty. If I get something from one of the vendors people use here, I can get opinions on the stone first from people who actually know gemstones. I know these are small purchases, but I don''t want to completely waste my money either. I''d be glad to buy them already set if I knew where to go. Thanks:)

I don''t think that nice gemstones are generally set in sterling silver...you''d probably have to have it custom made IMO. It''s hard enough to find a nice gemstone set into gold or platinum!

i agree with neatfreak...the reason that manufactures use lesser quality gems in sterling is to keep the price affordable.the price is considered before the quality, but in the less expensive gems like garnet, amethyst, citrine you can get a better value.

Ok thank you! It was just another of my crazy ideas anyway!
