Do these stones go together?

I bought these stones awhile ago:

I was thinking of setting them in a 3-stone ring in 14k rose gold. My gems usually end up in white metal + diamond halo and I don't even own any 3-stones so I am feeling weirdly insecure about my setting idea. Would these stones look good together? Will the rose gold work with these colors? Any opinions (or pics of your own pieces!) would be appreciated.

Here is a "real" (non-vendor) shot, to give you a better sense of true color / proportions. As you might be able to see, the color of the side spinels is really pale -- they almost look pale pink rather than lilac, when put next to the spinel cushion....

I think it will look great together! My vote would be rose gold, no halo. :wavey:

Beautiful combination. It will look great in RG.

They look beautiful together! Another vote for a 3stone ring in rose gold with no halo. Depending on size they could also make a fabulous five stone ring with two diamond accents.

What I would do is set the head for all the stones in pink or yellow gold (pink gold would be optimal), and the shank in white. The sides are so pale, they'll emulate pale pink diamonds.

Love this idea! Love the stones also and I think the colors are amazing together.
Good luck with your project and I cannot wait to see the beautiful creation of your dreams. :appl:

Absolutely! :lickout:

Personally, I would choose purple as side stones instead of light pink, however, that's my preference.

As they are, the side stones look great against spinel, and as the others have commented, they resemble pale pink diamonds!

Thanks for sharing!

Very good match............Better than the colorless side stones.............

Looking again, I have some reservations about this combination. The hot pink may overshadow any color in the sides. It's a very strong color, and the sides are extremely pale to almost colorless. Typically, I like to match saturation and tone in a three stone ring, and use hot with warm colors. For example, a very pale green would look fabulous with those pink sides, and bring out their color more. Therefore, one may not see much color in the side stones, unless perhaps you set those only in pink, and everything else in white, but even then, it may not work.

I was thinking how a peridot green would look amazing with that spinel, reminds me of Spring for some reason. I really love the colour of that spinel. You are very lucky!

Hi,

I'm sorry, but I do not like this combo. The light lilac is too light for the beautiful spinel. This is a case where I would like diamonds.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Looks like posters are split on this one.

Re: the point about matching saturation in different stones, I do actually have a lighter Afghan tourmaline that looks good with these pale spinel sidestones.... but I've been envisioning a Legacy style setting for the tourm and am loathe to give that up! Well, I may still go with the spinel + spinel 3-stone and take TL's original suggestion to go with the rose gold head + white shank combo.

Gah, I think this is why I never get around to setting gems! They are so pretty and cooperative when they're still sitting in their neat little rows.

The shapes are good, but I don't think that the colors complement each other. I

\I would use a very pale blue center stone to bring out the pink in the side stones. If you can find a pale blue spinel center that looks like a blue diamond, and use rose gold for the baskets and white gold for the shank, it would look killer!!!

The side stones would be nice togetherwith a bright Merelani mint - but this combination is nice too

pregcurious - Using a blue spinel to resemble a blue diamond? Oooh that sounds lovely, thanks for the idea! Although that solution has me buying yet MORE stones instead of setting them.... But I only own one blue spinel right now, so I'm not only allowed to buy more but totally justified, right? ;))
