I don't know anything about photography... but this guy came well recommended and for a good price offers 6 hrs of photos (no assistant, but we are only having a 40 person wedding) with high resolution digital negatives on DVD, and all pics on website to show to friends/family.

http://www.nicksonphoto.com/

You can go to "order prints" and then "galleries" to see ALL the pics he does of each wedding, not just the best shots. Our location is LA Venta Inn and he has a bunch from that venue.

Like him? don't like him? why?

(ok.. why when I type the web address you can't just auto click to site?)

Here''s my take:

The photos aren''t bad. I''ve definitely seens worse. However, that being said... I don''t think they are great either. I prefer more of an artsy/photojournalist blend and these seem more classic to me. If that''s what you want, then by alll means go for it! The photos are a little "blah" to me, though, and I would personally look elsewhere to try to find someone who pays a little more attention to composition and editing.

Hope this helps!

the photos are nice but too... posed. i prefer the "stolen" shot photos since it looks natural and conveys more emotion. like lilylover, i''d go for the photojournalistic types than the posed type of photos.

I love his photos!

People have different tastes when it comes to wedding photography, his style is definately my taste but it won''t please everyone. If you love his work, book him- he is great!

I agree with Lilylover, it''s all about what you want. As a person who does portrait photography, they aren''t very original. They''re pretty pictures, but nowhere near amazing. He has a few really nice pictures, but I am not a fan of his black and white at all. That being said, I believe black and white is harder to do well. For me my photographs are art, moments captured in a creative way. His photographs are a little too commercial for my taste. If you''re fine with that then go for it! Good luck!

Well. I guess I asked for others opinions because they were not WOWing me either. Sure, some are pretty... but i do prefer more photojournalistic shots. he just came so highly recommended... I had to ask you guys for second opinions! thx.

Still searching for an LA photographer in our price range...

I definitely think they are pretty, and when looking at photos, I always try to remember that the pictures are most likely what "that" couple requested. So perhaps the couple wanted lots of traditional/portrait type shots so that is why you see those. If you prefer a more photo journalistic style (and after discussing with the photographer, he also will shoot that style), I don''t think it''s really too hard to take those types of shots as well, or in lieu or portrait-y types.

Have you met/emailed with him or asked any questions of his staff (if he has one)? If he comes highly recommended and is in your budget, those are two very important things to me, so I''d maybe dig a bit further rather than dismissing the guy based on pictures on his website! Good luck :)
