Do you like your engagement ring to be the largest diamond on your hands?

Would you wear a solitaire on your right hand that’s larger than your engagement ring?

I am considering an upgrade but don’t want to stop wearing my original engagement ring. The new diamond may one day become a three stone but for now I plan to wear it as a solitaire.

I don’t want my modest original engagement ring to get a demotion so I’ll wear the newer, larger solitaire on my right hand. Somehow, it feels odd.

If you have more than one main ring, how do you wear yours? No wrong answers. I’m just curious how others do it.

Move the large diamond to the middle finger of the right hand? Only wear three stone or multi diamond rings on the right hand? Switch out your engagement ring on your left hand with the larger stone every now and then?

I don’t have any trouble wearing a multi stone diamond ring or a colored stone (larger than my engagement ring) on my right hand. Somehow, it feels a little off to wear what looks like another (larger) diamond engagement ring on my right hand.

What’s your personal preference?

Would you consider making the original solitaire into a pendant (if it is the diamond you want to continue wearing) or keeping it as an alternate ring for say when you travel?

I usually only wear a ring on the ring finger of my left hand. I recently got an anniversary ring and now I alternate it with my e-ring.

I have a fascination with diamonds of various shapes and cuts and have no issues at all with a solitaire as a right hand ring. My round brilliant e-ring is my "go-anywhere, wear with everything" forever ring and whilst most of my RH ring diamonds are smaller then my e-ring, I have a couple which are larger. But those are rings I wouldnt wear everyday, they come out at certain times when I want a more blingy look.

Sometimes I want a rose gold ring for my right hand to match my bracelets on my right wrist, sometimes I want a pop of colour so I wear my prince cut with the ruby halo on my right hand. Some environments I know I will enjoy my asscher (which is a slightly higher carat weigh than my e-ring but faces up a similar size).

I personally love the flexibility that having other diamond rings as right hand rings gives me. I also have a couple of coloured stone rings too, but I seem to have collected more diamond rings.

I have debated with myself at times whether I would prefer to trade some of the diamond rings in my collection to get 1 larger stone, but that would still only be a RHR as I would never replace my original engagement ring, and I realised that I couldnt choose 1 particular cut of diamond or style of ring that I would want to wear all the time on my right hand. The option to change them up as the mood takes me is really what I love.

Ultimately you should do what pleases you, there are no "rules" for jewellery, other than those you choose for yourself. =)2

I set my original e-ring diamond in a stuller pendant when I got a larger diamond a couple years ago. I love wearing it and didn’t want to just have it languish in my jewelry box never to see the light of day. I rotate a few rings on my right hand ring finger and pinky. You do whatever you want to do!! There are no rules and if we all did the same thing, life would be boring!

I have a .90 carat Asscher solitaire engagement ring that I honestly never want to change. I am super sentimental about it and I still just adore it! I did add an eternity band for our 10th anniversary.

But now I wear a 2 carat ACA solitaire on my right ring finger. I LOVE IT, TOO! I have toyed with the three stone thought, but I may just do a wrap that makes it look like a three stone to wear sometimes because I do love it so much as a solitaire!

I agree with @MamaBear and @diamondhoarder ! Do - and wear - what makes you happy! Life is way too short...

I’d never ever change my original ering for something else. It is what is is. The ring my love proposed with. I’ve got bigger ones by now and they do look like erings as well, but are not. Being a minimalist, I mostly just wear one ring on my left hand ring finger. Sometimes my original ering, sometimes another. However, I always wear one peace that my husband gave me. But I don’t feel I need to wear my ering all the time, but feel comfortable switching.

Oh, and of course it’s totally ok to wear two diamond rings at one time! Do what you love. If you love it it will be beautiful!

Personally, I fully expect to end up in a situation where I would have an e-ring and then an RHR that is bigger than my ering! That is actually a super common phenomenon I’ve seen because most people feel sentimental towards the original ering (as would I) but at a later point, like a milestone anniversary, they tend to go bigger and get a huge RHR. It wouldn’t bother me at all, and like I said, it’s what I’m used to seeing.

Would you consider wearing your original engagement ring on your right hand and the larger solitaire on your left hand?

Lots of people wear their original ring on the left hand and an upgrade on the right. Given that different countries have different norms for what hand to wear a commitment ring on I figure the safe thing is to keep a ring on both. :)

I think it’s like to keep it as the original ring… even if that means that it doesn’t get worn every day. I’ve thought about making it into something else but I still want to be able to go back to that original look.

I like it!! Ha! I think I’ll end up with a ring on each hand. The more the merrier.

Yes. I think this probably will happen from time to time. I’m glad there aren’t any rules. Intend to change my ring look a lot!

I did this when I got my 20th anniversary solitaire ring, but I also reset my e-ring into a 3-stone so that they would not compete. I wear my 3-stone on my right hand.

My wife and I do prefer the largest diamond is on the ering. Actually we only have 2 ;)2 1 original and 1 upgraded ering as a anniversary piece.

But she doesn’t wear them much, and I turned out decided to make and am waiting for another ring hopefully she will wear daily~ It’s a largest but cheapest stone, a lab sapphire ( not going to talk too much as here’s not the right section~)

I'd reset the original stone into a 3-stone, and do the upgrade on my ring finger.

I don't mind my e-ring diamond being smaller than my RHR though, but I only own one diamond ring (my e-ring), the rest are plain metal or colored stones, not diamonds. I wear a 1.3-carat diamond on the ring finger, and a 2.6 carat sapphire on my right hand almost daily.

I think wearing a diamond on my right that was larger would bug me for some reason, unless it was in a funky setting like a gypsy ring.

I’m no longer married but would not have had a problem wearing something bigger on my right hand. I kind of like it when I see that in real life because I assume the right hand ring is an upgrade and that the person is too sentimental to stop wearing their original ring on their left hand. Makes romantic in me melt a little.

I occasionally enjoy wearing a larger ring on my right hand. Call it cocktail ring if you will. Generally cocktail rings are larger than engagement rings.

My Cartier black opal ring is one example of a ring I wear on my right hand that is much larger than my engagement ring.

I have a right hand solitaire that doesn’t necessarily look like an engagement ring; it’s a wider band and lower set.

Personally, I would want my engagement to be the larger stone. I am afraid that wearing a larger ring on at the same time would push my DSS into over drive :???:.

Biggest diamond, yes.
Biggest non-diamond stone, no. Perfectly fine with bigger non-diamond RHRs ::)

I only wear one ring on each hand, so when I wear my 1.19ct EC as my RHR, it will be the largest on that hand.

I have CS and pearl rings that I wear on my left hand that was way larger than my EC.

DK :))

My preference is biggest diamond in ring ring finger. Other diamond rings and big colored stones on right hand.

Biggest diamond, yes.
Biggest non-diamond stone, no. Perfectly fine with bigger non-diamond RHRs ::)

Same. But if a wear a big colored stone RHR I'm usually wearing a stand alone band or stack on the left.
