Do you think this colored diamond would look good in rose gold?

I think this champagne diamond has a very orange pink cast to it, and others have said so as well. I''ve tried to get the picture to look as close as possible to the real thing (it''s a little bit lighter in person), so based on the pic do you think it''s worth setting in rose gold, or is it the ugliest diamond you''ve ever seen and not worth putting in any setting? I want honesty!! Do you think it will bring out the pink in it? What are your honest opinions? It''s a half carat 5mm, and to the right is a very light pink diamond, and to the left is a very light yellow diamond for contrast. It does look more pink in incandescant and yellow light.

I''ve been staring at it for so long trying to figure out what to do with it, that I can''t see the true color anymore!

It''s hard to judge color on a computer screen but I don''t see any orange in it at all. Looks much more pink. I think it would look GORGEOUS in a rose gold setting. What style are you thinking of?

The stone is quite nice and it could become a beautiful piece of jewellery. You''re right about thinking of setting it in rose gold, although yellow could work too (making it look more orange) - anything except white, it would just wash away the warm tones. Just remember that in order to get the color of metal to influence the color of a stone, there needs to be as much metal around it as possible (a bezel, semi bezel, flush or bar setting). Also remember that any stone is darker once set.

Well, I''m glad at least someone sees pink in it. I do, but you know how you have an affinity for a stone, and it looks beautiful to you, but no one else. When I bought it, it was described as pink, so phew!

This is the setting I was thinking of getting. I am going to upgrade to VS diamonds and he said he could put a rose gold head on it, or I could do the entire thing in yellow gold. What do you think? Yes, it''s a cheap LOGR setting, but since that thread opened up here, if my other setting turns out nice, I will get this one.

I think it''s a lovely stone and that rose gold would beautifully bring out the color!

That''s a nice setting, but a white gold/white diamond shank + rose gold/white diamond halo + a pinkish brown diamond center would be a wee bit too much for my taste. If you like it, go for it - if you''re not sure, maybe an all yellow look would be a safer choice. Unless you can, say, get halo diamonds to be some shade of brown...? Just a suggestion.

yes, I think you''re right, a rose gold halo would be nicer.

I think it will be a lovely home for your lovely diamond!

I think it would look great in rose gold!!!

I think the stone is beautiful! And I think rose gold would look great. I love the stone - it''s very, very pink, but I do see a bit of orange shade in it - which I think is a beautiful thing! Kind of looks like a slightly peach-y tone (very slight) - I love it! Mind if I ask where it came from?

I got it over ten years ago, so I don't remember who I got it from, seriously!!

Here's another picture in artificial white light. The diamond all the way to the right is a 1.75 cognac brown and a more salmon colored .8 carat, so again, it shows the contrast in color, that this stone is not just brown, but pinkish. Two yellowish diamonds to the near right.

One more pic in daylight.

. . . still look pink ?? Please be honest! My feelings don't hurt easily. Light pink above, light yellow below. My friend who saw it in person said it looked pink, but I haven't shown it to anyone else really except a jeweler who took a keen interest in the color and paid more attention to it in comparison to the other diamonds in this box, but he never said anything. I was thinking of getting them all set to make a linear pendant, but I would like to focus on this one stone perhaps.

I think it looks pink - but even if it has an orange tint IRL, I''d set it in a pink gold halo - if you used white diamonds in the halo/shank the contrast with the pink gold, colored diamond, and white diamonds would be beautiful - but I agree that white gold won''t accentuate the stone.

I think it would look great in pink gold. If it were my stone, that''s what I''d do!

Yes, I''m looking into that now. I agree. I just want to make sure it''s pink enough before I do that. Again, I''ve been looking at this stone for years, so it''s good to get objective points of view about the color. I''ve seen some fancy brownish pinks on fancy colored diamond websites that look exactly like this though.

I''ve found that (especially with coloured diamonds) you need to put the diamond actually next to a piece of gold (maybe a ring you have now) to get a good idea of what suits the stone the best.

It''s a very pretty diamond and I''m sure will look lovely in any colour metal.

okay, here it is next to a yellow band of mine, and the .8ct salmon colored one is next door. Sorry for my anal retentiveness, but I want to make absolutely sure that it''s worth setting in rose gold before I spend the $$.

one more. I think these latest pics give a better idea of the true color. BTW, it's an SI stone. I think that's my greasy fingerprints on there. No more pics, I think I've taken too many. I just want to be absolutely sure this little project is worth doing (it's not like I don't have enough jewelry - LOL).

Boy, do I love that stone. Yes, it definitely looks pink to me. I would love to set it in rose gold

I love it next to the yellow! Have you taken any photos next to white gold or rose gold?

18k or 14k rose gold? it will make quite a difference.

if you''re really into pink, go the 14k. but if you''re looking for a more subtle look, go the 18k.

I don''t have any rose gold to put it next to, otherwise I would.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the nice words about the diamond.

I see the pink!

did someone say rose gold bezel... I love this one by Caleb Meyer. Picture it without the platinum around the stone.

That LOGR setting I initially posted reminds me a bit of this (although this one is much nicer), but I like the head part (in yellow gold in the pic) to be rose gold, and the shank to be white gold. Is it a bit over the top?

I want 14k rose gold.

If you''d use pink or champagne stones in rose gold head it wouldn''t. However, I''m not sure about having white diamonds in rg head with an all white shank - it''s a matter of taste.

About the diamond - diferent people percieve colors diferently, not just describe, but actually see them diferently, so I wouldn''t worry all that much about what others see

There''s definately some pink in it, but you have to know that daylight won''t accentuate it since it''s temperature accentuates cold colors like green and blue more (blue skies add to that). Of course, if the stone would be in a rg setting pink would be more pronounced, but artificial light would definately flatter it more. And remember that there''s more to stones than just color, especially diamonds which have brilliance and dispersion to show off, so I wouldn''t worry that much about is it pink enough

Love his work!

I think it would look smashing in 18k rose gold!

I have seen these kinds of faint “pinkish cast” diamonds before and they can be really pretty, so I have to add my two cents.

The idea is to maximize the pinkish hue and make it stand out. If you set it entirely in pink gold however it will not stand out but rather blend in. I think the best way to make it stand out would be to set it in a white gold shank, using pink prongs or if bezel set, the pink gold will frame the diamond nicely and add to the pink impression of the stone. The white gold shank creates the needed contrast that will showcase the pink beautifully.
