Do you combine metals of different colors when wearing jewelry? If so, do you feel like there are particular considerations that can make the mixture feel cohesive? Finally, if you wouldn't mind, I would love to see pictures of pieces that you typically wear together.
I have been thinking about this quite a bit ever since my partner and I started discussing engagement rings. I love both yellow gold and white metals, and my first inclination would be to go with whichever best suits the stone we choose. However, I'm not sure how to reconcile having a ring I wear every single day with my usual practice, which is to match all of the metals I wear--including, in what is perhaps an excess of zeal, the hardware on my bags--with each other.
The simple solution to this dilemma would be to pick a metal color for my jewelry going forward and stick with it, but I have pieces in both yellow gold and assorted white metals that I would never want to give up wearing for sentimental reasons. So, instead, I would like to start getting comfortable with mixing metal colors. I have seen this done beautifully, but I've never been able to put my finger on what, exactly, makes a combination great. Even if I could, I wonder if it would be difficult to apply the concept to my own tastes, which tend toward more simple, modern designs. I thought about an ER with a yellow gold shank and platinum head, but--correct me if I'm wrong--I feel like usually looks best in Tiffany-style settings, whereas I've decided on a cathedral solitaire?
Originally, I was thinking only about combining white metals with yellow or rose gold, etc., but it occurs to me that some people are sensitive to the color variations that occur even within these broader categories, and I would definitely be interested in hearing thoughts on that topic as well!
I would so appreciate hearing some different perspectives on this topic! Thank you for reading!
