Hello everyone-
I would like some assistance/guidance. The ring contains diamonds and I have seen people post here for setting advice, so I hope I am ok to post here.
Anyway, I recently had an 18K wg ring re-rhodium-ed? to rid the yellow tinge and received it back looking like this.
I noticed that the prong area seemed duller, so I looked at it under a loupe to see why this was.
I have another 18K ring that I had rhodium dipped and the surface is absolutely not like this. It is smooth. In fact, anything I have had rhodium dipped before always came back smooth and shiny.
What happened here? Why does this look like this? I would appreciate your help! :confused:rhodium dip1.jpgrhodium dip2.jpg Is this some kind of corrosion?

Those look like hard water spots tbh. Have you tried just putting it in some hot water and dish soap/windex to rinse it off? or is that part of the patina now? Maybe take a polishing cloth to it?

Was it like this when you got it back from being dipped? Might have been some roughness on the sides and it wasn't polished before dipping. Whatever the reason, I'd talk to the jeweler and ask because this might be a new scenario for them as well.

looks like to me the solution may have been contaminated.
Discuss it with the place that did it.
If its still there after a steam clean there was an issue with the plating.

Thanks everyone. I took the suggestion to clean it with hot water and steamed it. It was like this when I received it back. After cleaning/steaming the issue is still there. I will definitely discuss it with the shop. I have never had anything come back like this and wondered about the plating.

Eek ! I hope it can be fixed. It looks like lots of small scuffs almost.

I had a couple of older white rings worked on at a local jeweler that I have used in the past. Their female bench jeweler apparently left for better opportunities and they have a new guy doing repairs. I had 2 rings rhodium plated and they both look slightly blackened, like tarnished sterling silver. The metal is somehow "darker" with a black aura to it. Not exactly tarnished black, but "dark" with a black tinge, I also gave them a stellar Wink's "Chinese White" H&A CZ to replace the old battered CZ that was in that setting. Whatever stone they installed in there, it's not my fine Chinese White, it's some cheapo thing with a big thick girdle, a chip on the girdle, a larger table, and it's glare-white colorless not the slightly warm Chinese White. I am furious and very disappointed and I won't be doing any more business with them in the future.

Wow! I am sorry to hear about that. I cannot imagine what they did to your ring to turn it *that* color! SMH
