This is a doctored picture to give folks an idea of the setting I''m after.

I''ve seen this setting done locally, but would like a better quality stone than they are offering. If I buy a loose diamond, is there a comapny who has or could make this setting?

The semi bezel is done with the half bezels positioned at the top and the bottom and the chain would go through a bail which would be attached at the top.

Bagpuss,

This is a photograph of my pendant: a 2.10 carat diamond in a half-bezel setting. I had it custom made by Grunberger Jewelers in Stamford, Connecticut.

Oh, that's lovely, AGBF! That's very similar to the one I've seen. Did your jeweller make it up from scratch when you say custome made or did they order in the setting?

I'm just trying to find out if this setting would be easy to find ready made from Stuller or somebody or would have to be specially made.

Thanks for the help.

It was custom made (made to my specifications), not ordered. That doesn''t mean that no such ready made piece exists, however! Maybe we can get some jewelers to chime in!

A quick glance of the Stuller Findings Book reveals that #2940 available in .10 - 1.50 ct sizes is a half-bezel pendant slide. However it is orientated east-west and not the north-south you are looking for.

Wow! You''re good! (But we all knew that!)

That''s the trouble - all the ones I''ve found so far have been east-west too.

I''m reluctant to ask this local jeweller to set a loose stone as he mainly sells diamond jewellery himself and he''s the type who might well take offense that I wasn''t buying the diamond from him. I don''t really want to antagonise him as I may well want to buy other stuff from him in the future.

I''ll think it over, but thanks for your help.
