Does anyone own a brown tint diamond? Which brown tint is nicer in this video?

In your opinion? Which tint is nicer? Left or Right?

They really pique my curiosity, how does a brown tinted diamond look like in real life? Does anyone own one? It is like the C1 or C2 below?

I actually like the one of the left with a more pronounced colour. It would look gorgeous in rose gold. The one on the right doesn't have enough tint to a point it looks a little grey/dark. Could pass more as an untinted stone though in the right setting.

I like the one on the right.

I like the one on the right, it's more of a cool greyish tint

I like the one on the left because it has more tint and shows more as brown to me.

This is in the mail but wanted to share how very different a brown diamond can look, I was honestly surprised by the two bottom pictures. Wouldn’t think it was the same ring!

I much prefer the one on the right because the tint is more "brown/pink" vs "brown/yellow", but that's my own preference. I had a brown tinted lab diamond but sold it because it wasn't brown enough haha.

I wouldn't buy either of those. They do not have enough brown to appear as brown diamonds, but they will look like dull, less bright white diamonds. The one on the left is yellow brown which would not be attractive to me. Compared to stones with a light brown undertone, you are better off going with light yellow instead. I've seen people here sell stones that had a brown undertone because they just are more dull in color. They are also more discounted in price because they are less desirable than a slight yellow undertone. I do love a more saturated brown stone, though.

In the video the one on the left has more brown; and that is why I would buy the one on the right.

If I wanted a diamond that looks brown I still would not buy the one on the left.
It just doesn't have enough brown for me, or IMO others, to see it as a brown diamond.
It just looks like a D-Z diamond with a color grade much closer to Z than D.

If I wanted a brown diamond I'd go to Leibish and pick one which GIA graded as Brown.

@YadaYadaYada Is that a brown fancy color diamond? Looks very light in real life! Did you purchase it?

U must be a brown lover like me too!

I did buy it, it is antique so no report with it but it was sold to me as a brown old mine diamond. I’m eager to see how it looks IRL!

Thanks for the wake up call. I must admit that I am tempted to purchase, but holding back as I wonder whether if the brown will show through. The thought that it might be vastly underwhelming did come across my mind..Seems like it wouldn't turn out to be a pretty light version of the champagne brown color after all.

The fancy brown round diamond cut looks messy to me, coz it seems they are normally cut to reflect more color instead of brilliance...which makes the color shows through.

Hi @kenny ! Yes, I have been browsing through Leibish and thinking of getting a fancy color round diamond but have not settled on which color to get yet.

From your description...Z color diamond is waayyyyy off the chart! Yes, I guess both are not good choices at all.

Please post after you have received it! :)

...

Yes, it's difficult to decide on a hue.
There are so many and each hue, in a sense, has a very different story to tell.

Be careful, FCDs can become addicting. :Up_to_something:

Yes, I have gone through that post. Doesn't look like a K at all!

It's magical for sure, the side-by-side with the I is incredible :kiss2:. I would love to have a similar faint brown tint!

What is the alphabet color on the left and right ones you are viewing?

Yeesssh it is! I saw your wonderful rainbow collection of FCD...wow, literally knocked my breath away :kiss2:

hahhah...I am still looking for the perfect pink for my first FCD purchase... browsing Leibish is my favorite past time.

@Polyhex The left is a M while the right is a K.

Neither one will look like a brown diamond, IMO. My prediction is that the left will look a lot like a typical M diamond, and the K will possibly look a good bit whiter and be a bargain stone. You would need to go a lot lower in the alphabet for the stone to be visibly brown.

Yes, just to add that modern round brilliants are cut to reflect light, that's why well cut ones face up whiter than their actual body color from the profile. A K with brown undertone won't look brown, it will just look dull and not quite white enough like I said before. I have an O light yellow AVR and that looks much more like champagne to me. I can think of a couple of good browns, and if I can find a picture, I'll post them.

I am betting this is what you are wanting. Here's a W-X on the brown scale with no modifying colors. She calls it champagne, but it has no yellow. As you can see, it is beautiful set in rose gold. So you do need to be lower in the alphabet to see the brown, and even at W-X, it is not too deep brown.

Yes, very much so! I have a long thread about them from a while ago. I essentially realized that anything "Above" about a P/Q color won't look brown enough *to me* to fulfil my desire for a champagne/pinkish brown stone. I have yet to find a diamond that is a perfect hue for me and also affordable. I have a wonderful N color CBI that I adore, but I knew it wouldn't be a champagne color and would only look "warm" under specific lighting circumstances.

I agree with checking out leibish, but also would keep an eye on JA since sometimes they have promising candidates.

FWIW, keep in mind you'll never see the "hues" champagne, cognac, canary, or rose on a GIA report.
GIA calls so-called champagne and cognac diamonds, Brown.
The pretty words are the brainchildren of marketing weenies to make diamonds that were harder to sell, easier to sell.
That said I certainly consider a nice Brown to be very beautiful and desirable, even without all that marketing nonsense.

I'm not saying I always agree with every GIA's call on all hues.
Many of their so-called so-graded "pure" Fancy-Reds (with no mentioned secondary hue modifier) have lots of brown (or mud) in them, as do many of the FCDs that GIA graded as "pure" Orange and Yellow.

I have a GIA Fancy Vivid Yellow asscher that has a harsh brown tint in it, but my GIA Fancy Red is the cleanest and purest screaming fire engine Fancy Red I've ever seen in 15 years of viewing Fancy Red pics on Lebish.
Too bad it's only 10 points, not 10 carats. :cry2:

OMG *Faintz* Yesssh, you nailed it! :kiss2:

That post started my obsession with brown tinted diamond! I even bookmarked it! She is soooo lucky to have found it! Is there an online platform to find the lower colored diamonds?
