My new anniversary ring took us several months to design, and I really love the outcome. However, customers at our store will continually ask me if it is real, if the sapphires are LAPIS (good grief!), and/or if it is my engagement ring.

Does anyone else get asked these kinds of questions? My center stone is only 1.02, but it is a fiery ideal cut that looks better than most diamonds you see in the jewelry stores in our community. Why do people assume it''s not real? Do you think it''s the unusual design? And I am pretty sure I look like a married mother of two, and have seen other women with a single ring on their left ring finger symbolizing an anniversary. Is it really so unusual to wear a three stone anniversary ring on that hand?

DH is going to purchase a matching 1/2 eternity band to go with this, but in the meantime I am getting annoyed with being asked when my wedding is, LOL!

And here is a handshot of my ring ...

I think it''s beautiful! I wouldn''t worry too much about the comments, because clearly these people don''t know what they are talking about. You know it''s real, and you know it''s pretty, so who cares what others think?

It''s gorgeous. Most people haven''t seen a well cut diamond, so when they see one they think it has to be fake. Don''t pay them any mind.

I really can''t imagine asking somebody if their diamond is real or not!!

But I agree with the others... you know the truth, and that''s all that matters. Enjoy your beautiful ring!!

Your ering is very pretty and unique. I don''t know how people have to nerves to ask someone (especially stranger) if their ring is real. I think it''s rude.

I love your ring! Don''t pay any attention to the comments. I think what these people are saying is that your ring is so beautiful it can''t possibly be real because most people don''t know what high quality stones look like. I get this comment from time to time as well. They don''t think the ring is fake, just that it is too beautiful to be real. Very odd really, but most people only see stuff from mall stores, not ideal cut stones.

well I certainly don''t get the lapis comments but I can see the e-ring comments... it isn''t quite a 3 stone, and while it is really lovely, it could easily be an e-ring.

oh and the fake comments are absurd as well - it''s obviously custom lol

HA! Lots of people (myself included) are waiting later & later in life to marry -- and it''s pretty trendy right now to have three-stone e-rings. Maybe the combo of those two facts is the crux of the confusion.

I wouldn''t worry about the "not looking real" bizzzzzness. People just aren''t used to Super Ideal cuts like that! Would you rather have a dull "real-looking" stone or a fantastic "looks fake to the less-educated masses" stunner?? I thought so!

Like everyone else said I would ignore the comments. They obviously know NOTHING about fine jewelry.

Ummm... that ring does NOT look fake! It looks gorgeous & very well crafted. Is it a custom piece?

Like many other posters said, many people only see maul jewelry. In maul stores, sapphires look inky black like onyx. Diamonds look like skim milk with water.

So a sparkly piece like yours would warrant such admiration! It''s very pretty!

people are looking for the plain white gold/platinum wedding band.

spiffy ring, bt the way!

Your ring is beautiful! People often ask me if my things are real. I always smile and say "Everything I have is real."

No it does not look fake. And those are loverly sapph. Guess people have never seen blue sapphires!?

That''s a really pretty setting. I like the stones on the sides and the small stones that curve around the band.

Did you post more photos of it on SMTR?

4bugzinarug:

First off, I just LOVE your ring design, your diamond and sapphires are stunning!

Second, I think the reason people ask if your ring is real is because it's SOOOO beautiful and perfect looking, they just can't believe it's real because the average person is so used to seeing underperforming diamond rings. I would take these questions as a sort of "diamond uneducated" person's complement. What they mean is, "Oh your diamond is just outstanding and spectacular!" But how they are saying it is "If I've never seen a diamond that sparkly in real life then it must be fake"

Lastly, if half of the people who own diamonds would just keep them clean, we would see much more sparkle and fireworks on a regular basis instead of the dull lifeless uncared for diamonds that seem to be the norm.

Your ring is really something special. YOU know it's real, it has quality workmanship and the setting is obviously custom made. I wouldn't worry about the questions at all. Those who know the difference appreciate its beauty.

By the way, I wear just a wedding ring and no wedding band on my left hand, and my three stone anniversary (past, present and future) ring on my right. I've been married for over 10 years. Once in a while when I was younger (mid 40's) people would ask me if I was engaged. Now if that question comes up (I'm almost 50) I just laugh outloud, just like when I was recently carted when I bought liquor by a young checkout clerk who clearly couldn't tell the difference between a 30 and 50 year old... it's just ridiculous!

I think it is just people are unfamiliar with seeing such a nice ring.

It reminds me of the Jaguars and Hyundais. To me they look similar, but I would never tell a Jaguar owner that..lol.

Your ring is a beauty!

See what I mean..
