Just as a thought - I found a ring I like and want to put one of my stones in it, but it''s a bezel setting. Will removing a stone from a bezel destroy it, or can it be used again?

Unfortunately, it''s a "one strike and you are out" kind of setting. Very difficult to reset. Of course, everything can be redone - cut out the bezel completely, solder in a new one etc etc - if you find someone who is able to do it and it doesn''t cost more than the ring did in the first place.

I recently reset my wedding ring. The price of the reset was one fifth of what the whole ring cost. I saw the old bezel, it was completely destroyed. They basically made a whole new bezel part for the ring and just soldered it onto the old ring. It was a good bench man who did it. I was pleasantly suprised at the price, as I thought they''d have to do a whole new ring, though.

Thanks guys

Methinks I won''t be going this route unless it''s an empty setting to start with!

WF told me it would.

Hmmm......

What about a channel set, when there is only one stone in the channel - would that be ruined, too?

That''s potentially as messy, but it really depends on how the ring has been put together

Thank you (again). :) I was going to buy a setting I like and replace the small diamonds, but now I think I''ll keep looking.

No matter what route you choose, all work largely depends on the quality of the jeweler you have the work completed by. If you want to have stones changed, ask to see some of the jewelers past jobs. (Photos, Ect.) Also ask as many questions as you can. Make sure he/she knows what your looking to do and make sure the jeweler has a good reputation.

Removing the stone form a bezel can hurt the stone as well.

Oh yes, I agree. I had my mothers three CT. Tanz reset and my jewler attempted to remove the stone from the old shank and cracked the stone in half. However, he is a great jewler and he replaced the stone. Always make sure you are working with a good jeweler who will back up his/her work.
