So for some reason several of my coworkers always seem to assume that K and I are married...and we''re not even engaged! I don''t know if it''s just that I work with people who are for the most part older than I am, but it happens pretty frequently, usually despite the fact I''ve mentioned him as my boyfriend.

We have someone in the office who works at one of our Satellite offices right now, and he came up to my desk, looked at the picture of K and I sitting there, and said, "So is this your very tall husband?" I just said "Well...we''re not married yet..." Then one of my friends at the office made fun of me for saying yet. I told K about it and he just said "There are worse things...I mean, it''ll be true someday."

Doesn''t help my LIWitis, though!

Happens to me all of the time. Especially when I started my new job. When people would see a picture of my guy they would ask "is this your husband". Most people seemed to assume I was married from the start. People would come to my desk and ask what my husband and I were doing over the weekend. I never really corrected anyone less I embarass them. I figured over time people would realize we''re not married.

So far, they''ve started to realize it.

This happens to me and my bf all the time. We traveled through Europe together this summer and we were asked if we were married at least ten times on that trip and then again on the plane ride home. Then I went home to visit his family in August and we went to mass at the church he grew up going to. While waiting for the service to start the paster''s wife came up to us and exclaimed "Oh I''m so excited to meet your fiance, I heard you were bringing her home!" Not quite the same as wife, but still extremely awkward as we are not engaged. I don''t even wear any rings so its not like I''m giving that impression. To top it all off, we are in our early mid 20''s and I look like I''m 17 . . . weird.

About 4 years ago (we had already been together for >2 years) I was with my BF at the Sleep Number store helping him shop for a new mattress.. as the salesman was showing us one of the beds, he explained that "it has two separately contolled sides. That way, if you prefer a firmer bed and your wife (looking at me

) prefers a softer bed, you can have both!" That was the first time anyone ever thought we were married. We laughed it off and told him we weren''t married.. it even made us slightly uncomfortable at the time.

On vacation in Jamaica recently, we were having dinner in this restaurant on the beach up in this raised "tree-top" table that had it''s own set of stairs leading up to it.. sooooo romantic.. anyways, people walking by on the beach kept saying things like "aaaaw look at the newlyweds, how cute" etc. I will say at that time I was enjoying the idea a lot more

, especially because I was somewhat expecting a proposal on that vacation

RubyRN, that''s the last time it happened to me too! Bed shopping! It was a little awkward to say the least. I never know why people just assume that...I wasn''t wearing any rings or anything either. I always get the "Mrs. X" greeting on the phone too. It drives me nuts for some reason!

Largirl- Funny! This all just reminded me of something that happened last week. I was at home (BF owns a house and we live there together) on my day off, and the doorbell rang. I answered the door and this is the conversation we had:

Guy at the door:"Is B home (BF)?"

Me: "No, he isn''t".

Guy: "Oh.. uh, is your mom home?" (

LOL)

Me: "No.. my mom doesn''t live here."(

I didn''t know what to say?!)

Guy: "Oh, sorry. Are you his wife?" (looking very confused/surprised)

Me: "No, I''m his girlfriend."

He then gave me a flyer from a lawn service that B had apparently used before. The thing that amused me most is that I do not look young enough for someone to ask me if my mom is home... plus, wouldn''t that imply that he thought B was my DAD?! He is only a couple of years older than me, and does NOT look like he could possibly have a daughter my age. LOL!! I''m in my mid 20s, and I look it. I never get carded, I never did- not even on my 21st b-day. I think that guy felt like a complete idiot.

My co-workers KNOW that my boyfriend and I aren''t married, but they still slip up and call his family my "in-laws" haha. I don''t mind it, but it is a little awkward! haha

Hi Ladies,

In my experience older and or married ladies will be used to saying husband, no offence intended.

Or,

If you were married/engaged would you prefer people call your fella your BF? They are probably being PC, if you are dating husband is a safe term. Less like to offend as most folks intend their relationship to end up in marriage.

Hmm, I would say he felt like an idiot - cause he was!

happens to me too. Just the other day, a valet parker referred to us and Mr. and Mrs. D.....

My BF and I were shopping for work clothes for him, and the saleswoman showing him a pair of pants a few yards away said ''Your wife mentioned you need a new suit as well.'' BF never corrected her, and admitted later he liked hearing it. I said that until there''s a ring on my finger he needs to say I''m his girlfriend or his parole officer... his choice.

RubyRN, the deep down feminist in me is kind of offended by that lawn guy! A young women couldn''t POSSIBLY own a home on her own or need lawn service or be able to make decisions regarding the household, could she???? (rolling eyes)
