I went to a jewelry store today to look at some stones in person to figure out how sensitive my eyes were to clarity. I saw a few SI1 and SI2 stones and although the grading is the same from each other, I was able to see inclusions in a couple, while I couldn''t at all in the other stones. I''m now second guessing the stone I''ve put on hold with WF.

Does this stone look eye clean to you? It would drive me crazy if after all the savings and research, I saw the inclusions in the stone.

What do you think?

I tried to attach the picture of the stone, but if it doesn''t work, here is the link....http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-1843968.htm

Oh I forgot to mention that the picture is magnified 40x''s. Thanks in advance for your help!

Ask WF to check for you. They check stones all the time for people with the same question. Explain to them, in detail what you mean by eye clean...how close, from the side etc... and they will have several people look at it for you and give you an honest opinion. The would rather tell you up front than have you return the stone later on.... It is hard for us to tell from the info we have.

in my experience, inclusions are all about placement within the stone. I have seen some SI2''s with inclusion toward the edge (not the techincal term)... girdle lol and they looked perfectly eye clean...

The only way to tell is to ask WF to evaluate the diamond for you concerning whether it is eyeclean or not, make your standards and expectations clear to them so you are both on the same page.

Ditto everyone else, ask WF if it is eyeclean. They are nothing if not totally honest and I''m sure they would be more than happy to answer that question for you.

Thanks everyone. I''ll call WF again in the morning. I already asked them the eye clean question and was told they''re definition of eye clean is from 3 inches away... I guess it''s best if I specify what my definition is. I just don''t want to be a pest either. I was hoping someone on PS would be able to look at the magnified picture and tell me. But I guess that''s pretty much impossible.

Thanks again.

Absolutely. And you are not being a pest, nor will WF think that, you want to get this right and they want to help you achieve that in anyway they can.

Also - look at it from their point of view:

Telling you it''s eye-clean costs them a few minutes of observation and (maybe) the cost of a call to you, and generates a happy customer.
Shipping the stone back and forth plus having it out of stock for a couple of weeks costs much more, and generates an annoyed customer.

Bit of a no-brainer, really.

I''m very suspicious of sellers that are dismissive or short-shrifted with reasonable questions.

I was going to say "No, it''s not" until you pointed this out. I agree with everyone else about asking WF.

At 40x, no. but at your eye maybe yes!

I am sure WF will be happy to give you their evaluation of the stone. It looks like a pretty diamond.

When looking at a picture magnified at 40X, there is no way to tell you if the stone is eye clean. Even a loupe only goes up to 10X. You would have to look at it in person for that, and my guess for that picture is yes, the stone is probably eye clean. It's amazing how different a stone can look when it's magnified 40X. Even if you magnify a carpet fiber 40X it looks totally different.

I was looking at the very same stone a couple of weeks ago. I talked to Bob and he said it is eye-clean.

I guess I didn''t act fast enough, because when I looked at it again...it had been sold. So enjoy that pretty ACA!

Man they are fast! I guess that is the advantage of buying from someone that has the stone in-house. This is the response I got from Chris after he had the stone looked at. He said the guy that looked at it (I dont'' know his name) has very good vision.

"From as close as I can focus the diamond is eyeclean from the top. From the sides I can see inclusion from about 25cms but they are very small and very lightly colored. They would be much harder to see if the diamond were set."

That meets my expectations! I was worried about looking at the stone from the top and if I was to move my hand side to side.
