I''m contemplating a purchase of an uncertified diamond antique piece with them. I saw a couple of posts about them that were generally positive. I just wanted to see if anyone had anything else to add. Are their representations re color and clarity generally accurate? What about their other representations re the condition of the item, etc.? Overall experience? Thanks!

Hi Panda,

I believe you've already made the purchase in question (the lovely OMC pendant on the SMTR forum), but for others, I will answer your post.

I have purchased several times from Dover Jewelry.

The first piece was an art deco diamond and sapphire fan-shaped pendant. When I got it, the diamonds were more included than described. Also, the "pendant" appeared to have started life out as one half of a pair of earrings. I was a little disappointed. But it was pretty so I kept it.

The second piece was an estate repro Victorian gold cuff bangle with engravings. This one was much better. Even my very conservative appraiser was impressed with its quality.

My opinion is that Dover's stuff is generally what they say it is. Although they are overly generous with their color/clarity gradings (they grade higher than what it actually is). Overall, their prices are fair to sometimes good.

Whenever I call to ask about a piece, I first talk to their friendly sales agent(s) - they sound like young girls who deal in the front. They usually end up needing to pass me to the owner - Ali, or Fadi, or some short name like that. That guy - I don't like so much. I always felt somewhat uncomfortable... he was very salesy and I felt he would say anything to make the piece sound great.

But other than that, their stuff has been alright.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your response, Anne. Yes, I did already make the purchase. The experience I had with the staff was almost exactly as you described. A friendly young-sounding salesgirl and an older gentleman who was a bit of a hard sell. I was a little leary because they offered a discount without my asking right off the bat. However, the item is exactly what I''m looking for, they have a no questions asked return policy (that I questioned them extensively on) and I figured I had to see it for myself. I''m getting it appraised so we''ll see what happens.

Hi Panda,

I''ve purchased many beautiful items from Dover Jewelry and they have been wonderful to work with! Right now, I''m selling a bunch of my jewelry through them.

Hamid is a very nice gentleman and he will work with you in any way that you need. I usually deal with him via email and phone and he is extremely responsive.

Eddie has assisted me with a VERY large purchase earlier this year and has been very kind also.

I haven''t dealt with the salespeople on the phone. Go straight for Hamid or Eddie.

All of the items I''ve purchased have been awesome. See my avatar? It is my new Daniel K ring that I just bought from Dover Jewelry! It is the most awesome ring and I love it!
