I''m trying to put together a guest book and I thought it would be cute if I could match our "monogram" on our invitation and put it in the book. I just searched the web and found the font i need:
"shelley script volante".

but it costs $24 to download?!?! seems like a complete rip off! does anyone know of any good sites that will let you download free fonts?!
thanks!

try dafont.com. They have tons of fonts and even though they won''t have that one since you have to pay for it, they might have something similar and they''re all free.

thanks robbie! none of them matched too well, but that is SUCH a fun site!! i love it!! going to add it to my favorites for future use. :)

i use 1001fonts.com a lot
again, they wont have a font you have to buy elsewhere though : (

Hey!

I use Font freak
www.fontfreak.com

Make sure that you first select PC or MAC, otherwise you''ll be in the wrong spot!

GL!! Hope it works out well :)

Why is it a ripoff to pay for someone''s artistic talent? Fonts don''t just appear out of nowhere; someone has to create them. I can understand not really wanting to pay for a font you''re only going to use once, but to call it a ripoff is a bit harsh.

yep, and $24 is on the cheap end of fonts. they can be much more costly than that, and for good reason, of course.

yikes! i didn''t mean to sound cheap or offend anyone. you''re right, it just seems high to pay for a font i''m only going to use one time. but i do understand wanting to reward someone for their work in creating art...

on a different note...one thing i wanted the font for was to insert the text of our invitation into one page of our photobook/guestbook. i remembered that i have the proof saved on my computer as a pdf file. I was able to convert that to a jpeg file and insert it as a picture! yay!

sounds good. just be sure to check the jpg up close. don''t want lo res ruining your guest book.

In addition to the artistry, there is also a lot of effort that goes into the kerning and spacing and such for fonts. For me personally, if I were going to use the script font on various pieces of paper for the wedding (invite, reply card, programs, menu, etc) $24 doesn''t seem like too much for a decent font. It 1.5 boutenniers (sp). Just be sure its the one you want.

well, we actually had our invites done professionally and i was just trying to match that font to use on the guest book. but now that you mention it, it might be nice to use it for the programs (which i''m definitely going to DIY) and perhaps the menus as well... and you''re right, $24 isn''t too bad in the scheme of things!
