Hi All
I''m mostly a lurker and am truly amazed with this site and how helpful everyone always is to eachother! i love it!~
So, here I go> I have a wedding coming up in August, its a Friday evening - fancy expensive wedding in Boston MA
Black Tie optional. My husband is IN the wedding. I am just attending.
Some of hubby''s co workers will be there and I want to look REALLY HOT.
But I also dont want to look slutty, I want to look sexy and amazing...........any ideas on dresses/gowns?
Nothing strapless please. - I am in my 30''s, in good shape, about 5''4

Thanks in advance!

What kind of price range?

What kind of color are you looking for? black? dark color? bright?
Ankle length? Knee length?

ETA: You might also post this over in BWW. The ladies there are amazing at finding dresses for all occasions.

Hi Grace-

I am in my 30s also, shorter than you and don''t like strapless gowns either! I found a few that I would love to buy, but since I don''t know your price range or tastes...I just guessed:

First one is by BCBGMaxAzria. I love their dresses and I''ve found that most are very easy to hem without losing the shape or fluidity of the dress. This one is on edressme.com, but I bet you can find it at Nordstrom or Macy''s for less than the $400 at edressme. I love the bright colors and it screams summer to me.

Another from edressme. This is by JS Collections and another dress that I think you could wear if your DH is wearing a formal suit or a tuxedo for the wedding. I am NOT in great shape, but if I was I would love to own this dress.

Last one that I''ve been ogling on edressme. I generally dislike wearing black and of course, white, to weddings, so I love this bright blue dress by La Femme.

there is also a website that I just joined called ''renttherunway.com"- you can "rent" a dress from them for $50-$200 and they have very high end designer dresses on there- it looks really easy to do, they send you 2 sizes to make sure it fits, and all you do is mail it back to them, and they take care of dry cleaning and everything. There''s no fee, you just pick out a dress and rent it. I haven''t used it yet, but a coworker of mine did it for a special party, and she looked great! Good luck.

I live in Boston and have attended my fair share of "black tie optional" weddings and functions. I''d suggest a cocktail dress rather than a full floor length gown (and I''d probably avoid a maxi dress, even though the BCBG maxi dress above is beautiful). You''ll just be more comfortable.

Nordstrom has a ton of great dresses! :)

Re: Dress/Gown ideas for formal wedding!!

i totally second the renttherunway idea. their dresses are to die for and you really can't beat paying like 10% of what the dress would cost if you were to buy it. it's really an awesome way to wear couture clothes without paying thousands
i just signed up and am planning to rent a dress for the next wedding i'm going to in the fall.
