I finally tried on my dress. I was supposed to get it a couple of weeks ago but the packing center in nyc shipped my bridal salon the wrong dress. Anyways, Pronovias run small:P The 26 waist is EXACTLY 26! And the 37.5 hips fits snug on my 34 hips. I can walk around fine but sitting will be a problem. I don't want to alter the dress unless I absolutely have to. Anyone else in my situation and need to lose and inch here and there? I'm not really a going to the gym kinda person. Any excercises I can do at home?

Also I was told brides tend to lose some weight right before the wedding from stress. Is that true?

carebear: how far away is your wedding and how much would you estimate you''d have to lose to get the dress fitting comfortably?

Wedding is end of May. So I have about 3 months. That should be enough time right? I need to lose about half to 1 inch in the waist. I figure if the waist part loosens up, the hips will be okay.

i''m not much of an expert at all, but i think that is plenty of time considering it doesn''t seem like too much to lose at all. my recommendation that has been working for me is with regards to diet -- cut out or down on sugar, processed/packaged foods and empty carbs. stick with more whole grains and veggies and fresh ingredients. if you don''t like going to the gym, maybe as little as taking an evening morning walk for 20 minutes or so will help you get right to where you want to be. do you have a dog? i do and walking her in the evenings is built in added exercise.

That is plenty of time to fit into the dress, walking is good for toning those areas and also many brides do lose weight before the wedding! You will be fine.

Get a pilates book. I had this one (before kitty threw up on it). I really toned my stomach and waist just doing the beginner warm-up exercises.

Although I''d throw in some crunchs where you aim your elbow at your opppsite knee. Getting the muscles that cross over diagonally helped bring my waist in. It just takes about 10 minutes a day on your floor every morning.

Play some music and dance around! That''s my favorite "home" workout! My FI and my doggies think I''m nuts, but it''s much fun!

thanks everyone for the good advice! I do have a dog=) Here''s our little trouble maker:
http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=190785

I''ll start by taking him on longer walks (lucky him!) Maybe some crunches everynight, play some music and wiggle my bum around the house.

How cute...we have two Shiba's at our townhouse complex and my friend has one too.

My thoughts on the losing of weight, I think it may be a little harder than just eating a bit better and walking a bit. Sounds to me like you are already in good shape or fairly small with a 34 hip? It may be hard to lose 1/2 to a full inch at the waist if you are already small...I know it takes me FOREVER to get even a 1/2 inch off at my waist when I'm in good shape...it's like your body just doesn't want to give anymore sometimes.

Just a thought but I'm not sure even with cutting back on a few things it would be entirely possible, so just keep that in mind IN CASE you have to have it altered! I would say that Pilates would be a great way to see if you could tighten up a bit and maybe lose the 1/2 inch that way rather than trying to lose actual weight.

Good luck and I'd love to see this dress pictures!! I love Pronovias.

The same thing had happened to me. They ordered a 6, and it fit everywhere but was very tight in my ribcage (an area that you can''t really "shrink")...so I had it taken out a bit...and on my wedding day it was too big b/c I had lost almost 10 pounds the 2 weeks before

Oh and CareBear, lots of girls DO lose weight before the wedding but I DIDN''T lose a pound unfortunately....WAH!

My dog is extremely hyper for a shiba. We met his litter brother who is now a successful show dog and he was so calm!
Here the thread where I posted me trying on the sample dress at the store: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-dress.38749/
I don''t take pics of the actual dress yet since I left it at the bridal salon to be steamed.
I''m only 5''2 with a small frame but definitely have some fat tuck away here and there.

The wedding stress level hasn''t really risen yet. Once it does, I might lose a couple of lbs=) Not that stress is a good thing either:P I guess if all else fails, I can always let it out slightly.

I didn''t lose a pound either due to wedding stress, although I heard a lot of brides do. I agree with pilates and dancing around the house. Pilates is great for toning, stretching muscles, and increasing flexibility. Dancing around is more fun tho. You might not want to do too much crunches if you are pretty tone already because you might end up gaining more muscle mass and the dress might end up being even tighter.

How about trying it on with one of those modern body shapers...the ones that help suck everything in?

San Diego Lady--It''s good to see you back :)

If you are really not into exercising, I highly suggest using Weight Watchers. I have been doing it for about 4 weeks and have lost 6 lbs....and I have hardly been working out b/c my kids have been sick on and off and I can''t get to the gym. What''s nice about it is that it is basically cutting portion sizes -- which we all should be doing anyway. There is nothing you "can''t" eat, but if you eat, say, a whole pizza, well that does blow your points for the day.

I never thought I ate that much, but once I started keeping track of it, I ate a lot more than I thought I did.

Oh CareBear,
That dress is so lovely!
I would suggest you seriously increase your water intake. Doing sit ups might help too.
You are pretty small like Mara said, so it might really be harder for you!
Island Dreams suggestiono\ might be the way to go, get one of those industrial strength scuba-suit undewear things that people are wearing...
You do have time, but good luck!

Okay, so I''m actually a part-time aerobics instructor... not a personal trainer, though, but I''ll tell you what I do know.

Crunches are WAY overrated... they''re really only good for toning your ab muscles if you''re already very thin and just want some definition, or for strengthening your core for health/posture reasons. Don''t do them if you''re wanting to whittle down your waist... as qtiekiki said, you''re more likely to build bigger muscle underneath your abdominal fat. Cardio is your ticket right now, especially if you''re not used to doing much of it. Just do anything that is going to get your heart rate up and get you sweating (I still like my dancing around the house idea!). So that''s my professional workout suggestion.

My non professional diet suggestion is to follow what lovelylulu''s advice. Closer to the big day (6-8 weeks or so), start cutting down on refined carbohydrates... 2 weeks or so before, if it''s still a prob... cut down even more. Just veggies and lean protein. That should get you into the dress just fine by the big day!

BTW, your dress is just SO gorgeous!

I''ll probably be in a similar predicament once my dress comes in... the measurements of the dress I ordered are EXACTLY my measurements... so I have NO wiggle room there!

Thanks again for all your good advice! I haven't actually started any workout routine yet. But I've been cutting out late night snacks and sweeted drinks, drinking more water, and playing with my dog more. Hopefully I'll see some results in the next month. If not, I'm gonna try the low carb diet.

I have to make sure not to lose any fat in the boob area because that part of the dress is already a bit loose. My friend suggested I try nubra. Does anyone own one? I've read mixed reviews, some brides love it others have had problems with it falling off or weighing their boobs down.

carebear: i have both the regular nubra, as well as the lite nubra. i got them because i was living in a much warmer climate and had a bunch of shirts and dresses that required a backless bra and in some situations i didn't feel comfortable not wearing anything. I got the lite bra first and i wasn't completely thrilled. i thought it was supportive and it did stay on fine, but i could see the edge of the bra through thinner fabrics like silk, etc. so then i laid out the money for the original nubra. that one is a weird texture sort of rubbery, but soft? i know if sounds strange, but it is actually very comfortable and because it's made of that material you can't see any seams, etc. i would definately recommend it. i think that it also works better on boobs that aren't too big, because then support isn't such a high priority...

oh, and i think that ellewoods just posted a description of that bra in a recent thread, but i can't recall which one...

My guess is that you haven''t really got much body fat to lose!

Why are you against having the dress altered slightly? It makes more sense, than trying to drop inches to fit into it. I think you are probably being unrealistic, and putting youself under more pressure.

I''m not completely against having it altered. I''m more worried that if I alter the dress now and I end up still losing additional weight from stress. The dress will end up being too big. I know 2 girls that got married recently, and both of them ended up having to wear loose dresses. They are telling me not to let out the dress. Also a lot my other clothes are starting to feel tight because I gained a couple of lbs recently=P Just thought this would be a good reason to try to lose those.

CareBear- I also think WW is really great. I have been doing my own version of it for just under two weeks and have lost 4 lbs! Though, I am sure I have more weight to lose than you (10 lbs to get back to my college weight). I am really just keeping track of my calories which is a first for me and probably have cut my in take in half and am working out more. Seems to be working for me.

My dress is a bit tight too, and I''ve decided to wait a bit and see if I can lose 5lbs or so to make the dress fit better. If it is still tight, then I''m just having it altered a bit. I KNOW that I will not be losing weight right before the wedding

I like food too much LOL. And if I see myself losing weight, don''t worry, I''ll just buy myself a couple cakes and a pan or two of brownies
