I posted this in RockyTalky, but just realized this folder might be the more appropriate place. Forgive the duplication!

I just picked up my ering today, and noticed that the diamond could have been set better in the half bezel. Photos to follow later if I can get any good ones. The part of the bezel on the crown of the diamond is a little thicker at one side of one of the half bezels. The jeweller said they can fix that, but I''m having the appraisal updated and getting the ring insured first in case there are any mishaps. Also, when I inspected it carefully under the loupe, I saw a bit of a gap between the bottom of the girdle and the metal, though the metal holds the diamond firmly just a little bit further down the pavillion.

I''d be very interested to see photos of good vs bad prongs and more importantly good vs bad half-bezel setting jobs. My ring just doesn''t look as good as some of the others in the jewelers display cabinet. Less squared off on top of the half bezel (which I like the look of) and more rounded. And a bit less even somehow. I hope the problems can still be fixed. Of course I know no one else except the appraiser will ever notice the problems, but I''m very picky!

Thanks!

Here''s a picture of my half-bezel. It''s perfectly even on both sides, I''m very anal about this too.

I saw your post and wanted to respond because I had a nightmare half bezel before and I never got it resolved. It was very uneven like yours. I''m really sorry and you have a right to be upset. I had offers from some of the jewelers online to help "fix" it but it would have never been the same. I spent over $300 on that setting and instead of going back to the shady jeweler who set it, I ended up resetting my diamond somewhere else. I hope you get it resolved.

I now have a half bezel setting (different diamond) made by whiteflash and it''s PERFECT.

Elepri and Marriahlyn,
Thanks so much for the photos of how my ring _should_ have been set. Your rings are both gorgeous! I hope mine will turn out as well some day...

Thanks to everyone who showed me photos of their rings. I got mine back last weekend, and though it''s a lot better, it''s still not perfect. Here''s a couple crummy photos of the result (sorry for the dirt, I get my cleaning supplies this weekend). I''m about 85-90% happy - I think at this point I may have to give up. Too bad. Probably no one else will notice the minor flaws in the setting but me, since hopefully all will be focusing on the sparkly stone.

I poked around a few stores today as well downtown, and it looks like a lot of them have trouble making a bezel or semi-bezel ring look great. Mine isn''t bad in comparison. At least the arrows point where I want them to and the stone is set nice and level. And the outer curves of the bezel are nice and even now.

Does anyone know how well solder matches the colour of white gold? I''d love to get the part that was cut away a bit too far (leaving the gap) evened out with the solder. It must be my engineer''s eye, because I can see a 0.1mm difference. My jeweler says this is as good as they can make it though...
