In trying to figure out the value of my own sapphire I have been looking at eBay listings, both sold and on offer. I have noticed that some sellers offer the same stone multiple times, or at least pretend to since I have seen four completed sales with the exact same stone size and exact same lab report over a multi month period. There are right now two different sellers offering the same 7.58 carat blue sapphire with the same report in each listing. Likely all of the stones they would actually ship are synthetic. If you search "sapphire 7.58" you will see the two listings I reported today.

eBay requires caution.
There are sellers who basically lie about their item, others sell counterfeit items, some even steal photos off the internet (and from here on Pricescope) and pretend you can buy the ring for a few dollars.
Many gems are synthetic, many are highly treated. You can’t always trust a lab certificate, they fake them too.
If you check “sold” listings, try Sapphire and Diamond ring (under Fine Jewellery) and you’ll get a better idea of what similar sapphires have sold for.
Obviously you can also use the various Online gemstone vendors
to get an idea of value but those prices don’t necessarily translate into a price, you as a private seller, can attain. Of course on line (eBay, Etsy, Loupe Troop) everyone is looking for a bargain and if you are a new seller it’s hard to sell an expensive item. Trust is a big issue for buying online. As a seller on eBay you do need to be cautious about potential buyers. Just as there are scam sellers, there are scam buyers who look to take advantage of a newbie.
